It’s been more than a year since the next-generation W177 Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been seen in spyshots, but the Tristar’s smallest model has now been caught without any camouflage whatsoever. Both the sedan and hatchback have been spotted here, painted in crash test orange but otherwise unadorned.
The design was previewed by the Concept A Sedan earlier this year, and while it’s been watered down quite a bit since then, the basic design elements have been left intact. These include the slim, tapered headlights, which flank a trapezoidal grille similar to the facelifted AMG GT – likely to feature Panamericana-style vertical slats on the AMG A 45 models.
Along the sides, the distinctive upswept character line of the current W176 model has been straightened out here, while the door mirrors have been moved down from the base of the A-pillar. Moving to the rear, there are wider GLA-esque two-piece tail lights on the hatch; the sedan gets more angular items akin to the previous-generation W212 E-Class.
Built on the revised Modular Front Architecture (MFA), the new A-Class looks to be significantly larger than before, with interior space expected to be increased through repositioned engines and lower seat mountings; a long-wheelbase sedan for the Chinese market should provide even more room. Previous spyshots have shown an E-Class-style dashboard with large screens for the instrument display and infotainment.
Engines will likely include a new range of four-cylinder turbo petrol and diesel engines – the latter already seen on the latest E-Class – which may or may not be paired to a new torque converter automatic gearbox rather than the dual-clutch transmission used today. Also on the cards is a plug-in hybrid variant as Mercedes looks to expand its lineup of electrified vehicles.
Hot hatch enthusiasts can expect no less than two AMG models, with outputs of the existing A 45 expected to swell beyond 400 hp in order to beat the Audi RS3 in the horsepower stakes. That would leave space for a mid-range A 40 model with around 300 hp, taking on the Volkswagen Golf R and the Ford Focus RS.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Looks like Audi A3 from the back.
Only in Malaysia A class is RM250k and high class car. In overseas, it is a cheapo car.
I used to rent this with EasyCarRental in the UK for 5 pounds a day. Once I rented this for 3 months even.
Cause they consider this a cheapo car.
Pity Malaysians.
inb4 all other klasse will look like this
Abang Douglas..though I agree with you that the A class is considered an entry level car in europe..dont klentong about your 5 pounds per day rental crap la… You pergi UK only..not Mars…lots of Malaysians have worked and studied there at some point to know the going rates for rental cars… the cheapest u can get is around RM 50 per day and it’s usually a crappy Korean hatchback like the Chevy Aveo or something..not a Merc..
Audi is dirt cheap in UK. Alot of my hometown friends went UK study under gov sponsorship and nvr came back. Cuz they say living costs and cars alot more affordable in UK.
I got proof to show I rented it for 5 pounds. I don’t know if Easy Car is still around. Don’t jealous if you were not born yet.
Pls define living cost, cuz living in major UK cities is NOT affordable. Most grads there cant even afford to pay for the car insurance (yes, its the insurance price that kills, not the car price. The same for cheapo 2nd hand cars too). And imagine starting to pay taxes as soon as u begin working…
why government sponsored grads NOT bonded to serve the country after graduation? Hundreds of Billions spent on them.
Rental car dun mean its cheapo car. U can rent a Rolls Royce, but does it mean its a cheapo car? What logic is tis?
Good for you.. We all nvr been UK.. Must be like the best country ever haa.. U so lucky.. Nasib baik you only talk about renting.. I tot there so cheap you’d hv pakai buang je..
show us the proof la bro!. it probably dated 10 or 20 yrs ago, and A class not yet born.
Go tell everyone that car price in UK is dirt cheap. Malaysia is expensive. Going there for short period of time, yes u may get cheap RENT rate. The cost of ownership is much2 more la bro. Insurance, parking etc. I agree that most people will say that living in UK is cheaper than Malaysia. You’ve heard it wrong. U may have heard that from a student. If as a student, compared to non-student Malaysia living rate, yeah, UK is maybe cheaper. After graduate and stay there, siapla. City council tax pun u x boleh tahan.
When a Mazda and Audi touch for the very first time.
Meanwhile poor old retirees badmouthin a Merc while textin in their Saga.
more like in their vios or p2
Looks too much like audi
it looks like an earlier study model for the current generation
new one looks absolutely hideous
the sedan looks like a bezza
Looks sharper but fatter?
lol. ugly af.
Better get the current ones before they ran out of production.
Mercedes makes good & few outstanding vehicles but not ALL vehicles made by Mercedes are Good or good looking.
no longer have the ‘wow’ factor anymore.
overall design looks very outdated.
Dont think this will make it. Looks way off. Lights look fake to me.
When the AMG A45 wants to beat the RS3, what does that mean?
At the drag?
From 100-380kmh?
Both RS3 wins hands down with the current A45. Giving >400hp isn’t good enough.
What about the gearbox? Any changes to it to put power down better? That is the problem with the current batch of A45. A Macan beater but not a RS3 beater.
Hooooooo Leeeeeeeee Sheeeeeeeet ! Please disguise it back! !
urgh…hodoh betul
The back just look like kia forte hatchback 2012 or toyota caldina 2012.
Idk..but it seems fully compared to the existing one
Fully.. I’d prefer the existing one
Fugly not fully.lol
