We’re nearing the timeline in which the all-new BMW 8 Series is set to go into production, and already rumours regarding the full-blown M8 have spread like wildfire. Well, one can certainly fan the flame, right?
That’s exactly the case this time round, with BMWBlog alleging that a mid-level variant, the M850i, may be introduced to slot between the base 840i and range-topping M8. According to the report, the M850i will get the same 4.4 litre twin-turbo V8 engine found in the M550i, here outputting well over 500 hp.
Although the 8 Series wasn’t suppose to receive an M Performance variant, the publication stated that higher-ups within BMW wanted the entire range to be consistent, so the M850i will follow the usual recipe and slot in the space between the 840i and the M8.
A newer article said that the car will receive the full M Performance treatment, which means the M Sport package would come as standard, as will an uprated suspension setup and active steering. Interestingly, the list also includes an M Differential usually reserved for full-fat M cars, hinting that the M850i could be rear-wheel drive rather than all-wheel drive as on the M550i, which omits the diff.
So, guys, what can you make of this? As usual, share with us your thoughts in the comments section below.
