Honda Malaysia in 2017 – 109,511 units sold, 19% increase from 2016, highest ever in company’s history

Honda Malaysia has announced its sales performance for 2017, where it managed to exceed the target it had set back in February. In total, the company sold 109,511 units last year – the highest in its history since it was established in 2003, and the first time it surpassed 100,000 units.

The result also represents a 19% increase compared to the 91,830 units recorded in 2016. Furthermore, the company now holds the record for the highest sales ever achieved by a non-national brand in Malaysia. According to the company, the Central region contributed the highest percentage of sales at 47%, followed by the Southern and Northern regions.

“The year 2017 truly was remarkable for Honda Malaysia. At the beginning of 2017, we challenged ourselves with a sales target of 100,000 units and in March 2017, we achieved a historical milestone with the 600,000th unit (CKD) production within the span of 14 years since Honda Malaysia started in 2003,” said Toichi Ishiyama, managing director and CEO of Honda Malaysia.

“At the end of 2017, based on internal data our market share was at 19%, an increase of 3.2 points from 2016. For the first time ever, we surpassed the 100,000 units sales achievement within a calendar year. We continue to maintain our number one position for non-national segment and number two position in overall TIV of the automotive industry.”

“On behalf of Honda Malaysia, I would like to extend our sincerest appreciation and thankfulness to all Honda Malaysia customers for their faith and belief in our brand and for making Honda their vehicle of choice. This achievement would not have been possible without our valued as well as strong support from our business partners and the Malaysian government,” added Ishiyama.

          1) Basher is basher. Why listen to basher!?

          2) Car is indeed expensive when U pay with hard earn money when U compare dollar with dollar.

          3) Buy what U like/can afford. Don’t buy a car to please your girlfriend, boyfriend, mother, father, neighbor or boss. They are not paying your installments.

Good RV! Better EV than lousy Toyota! What? You expect buy one get one free? Honda just showed how to build an all round perfection in its design, technology and marketing in Malaysia.Honda always appreciate their customers by giving Malaysia choices from small to big cars at better prices and fully equipped than arrogant Big Brother T.

2018 would another great year for HM! If you look at closest competitors T and P.. they’re out of new models to challenge H.. Toyota new models would be Harrier and,Camry and CHR.I don’t think it’s sellable due to pricing. And new Vios is horrible! I bet new Altis would be bland as well..And Proton is nothing left in their showroom to launch.Remember new range of turbo Petronas engines supposedly replace old engines in late 2017? It’s 2018 now but still nothing.Honda is projected to sell more than 100k again this year.Toyota just half of Honda and Proton slightly higher than half of it’s 2017 sales.

      • Honda had challenged itself to get more sales. the challenge now is towards the new Honda owners since they have to endure difficulties in getting the cars to service (due to high number of cars but lack of service centre), can service on weekend but complaints only on work days (need to come again?) and some difficulties towards warranty claim.

worst – Honda has a proven bad record in JD Power CSI survey, ranked last in 2017.

Quantity over quality. I work at Honda Dealer and having owned 2004 model Honda, id say Honda QC is very bad. Low quality materials, poor fit and finish, body noise , etc. Too many to list down. Its sad because the old reliable Honda is gone now.

No need to brain la. ppl still buy car or in this case Honda bcos they need to “impress” someone but many failed miserably trying to impress. At the end, they understand the word MALUATION.

Check out Mudah.com & bank lelong where many cars regardless of brands going cheaply.

As a brand, Honda is doing very well in Malaysia, introducing all models they have including the City Hybrid. There are full range of Sedan, Hatchback and SUV to choose from. For car buyers, Honda is definitely a good choice, the design is good, space is good and is perceived to have long lasting reliability.

However, there are also things that Honda is not doing well. With the high car volume, the service centers are very crowded and most of the times the service quality is bad. Also the car itself over the years has not improved on one specific area, which is the NVH and comfort, this is relatively worse compared to the other Japanese brands.

Honda has started 2S & Body Paint centres (June 2017) but so far only 2 branches, one each in Melaka & Penang respectively.
(Paul Tan article 29-06-2017). So far, only one additional new 2S has opened in Glenmarie (Honda Malaysia website).

With 2017 sales in Central Region (assuming WP KL & Selangor) contributing 47% , that’s an additional 51,470 vehicles to service in Central Region. The existing 30 3S & 4S could barely cope with these additional demand, even with opening 7 days a week.

Honda should roll out more of these 2S in Central Region. Servicing (convenience) is a major factor a consumer considers in the next car purchase. If service isn’t up to par, his next car maybe your competitor product.

In short, think long term (which Honda Malaysia has always done). To continue the strong sales momentum, servicing plays a major part in your future sales.

Honda Malaysia better keep their quality control department on their toes as they are now selling more cars in Malaysia than ever before. I drive a Honda myself, and I’ve got to say there are still room for improvements in your products and services. Pay more attention to after sales service HM. TQ

Seriously, many manufacturers have to thank UMWT which out position themselves to the market..(and help others)

Honda is a beneficial of that in non-local mid range brand (from Rav4, Yaris, Altis, and next will be Vios.., only relevant is Hilux now)
