F57 MINI Cooper S Convertible facelift launched in Malaysia – limited to just 20 units; price from RM280k

MINI Malaysia has officially launched the new F57 MINI Convertible facelift, which is offered in Cooper S guise for RM279,888 on-the-road without insurance. The model is being introduced as part of the company’s celebrations of the 60th birthday of MINI, and features many of the updates already found on the hatchback. Keep in mind that only 20 units of the MINI Convertible will be offered, so if you want one, you should hurry.

Power comes from a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine from the BMW Group (essentially the B48), producing 192 hp and 280 Nm of torque. The mill is mated to a seven-speed Steptronic Sports dual-clutch transmission, with drive going to the front wheels.

In terms of performance, you’re looking at a zero to 100 km/h time of just 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h, with a rated fuel consumption of 5.7 litres per 100 km. You also get three drive modes to choose from – Green, Mid and Sport – with the middle option being the default upon vehicle startup.

Like its hatch sibling, the new MINI Convertible gets redesigned LED daytime running lights for the bi-LED headlamps that also function as indicators. Around the rear, the full-LED taillights sport the Union Jack as a reminder of the brand’s heritage.

The car also gets a MINI Yours Union Jack fabric roof, which opens within 18 seconds at speeds of up to 30 km/h. Also standard are 17-inch Rail Spoke design alloy wheels finished in Jet Black, and an Easy Load system that holds the retracted soft top above the hatch to increase the size of the luggage compartment.

Moving inside, the car features Leather Chester Malt Brown upholstery and the MINI Yours illuminated interior surface in Piano Black, the latter with 12 selectable colours to illuminate the Union Jack design on the dashboard.

Another item from the MINI Yours catalogue is the Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel, while the gear lever is identical to the one found in the latest MINI Hatch. For infotainment, there’s the MINI Connected system with built-in 4G SIM technology, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen display.

The system offers a number of functions and services, including Intelligent Emergency Call, TeleServices, MINI Online, wireless Apple CarPlay, Remote Services, and smartphone app synchronisation.

On the safety and driver assist side of things, the MINI Convertible comes with six airbags (front and side pelvis-thorax), Rear Park Distance Control, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC).

The colour you see here is called Caribbean Aqua, and is exclusive to the MINI Convertible, with other options being Chili Red, Solaris Orange, Melting Silver and Starlight Blue.

Each purchase comes with a four-year/unlimited mileage warranty with free scheduled service, but if you purchase the car before August 31 this year, this is upgraded to a five-year/unlimited warranty with five-year/80,000 free scheduled service (60 Months MINI Service + Repair Inclusive programme) as part of MINI’s 60th anniversary.

Also on are MINI Roadside Assistance and MINI Service Online. With Balloon Financing from BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia, you can own the MINI Convertible at RM3,028 a month based on 80% loan on five-year tenure.
