Despite having clearly stated that its move into electrification would first come via the hybrid route, national automaker Perodua has offered a glimpse of how its all-electric path could shape up down the road, presenting that vision via its Electric Motion Online (EMO) concept.
The EMO, which made its debut at the Malaysia Autoshow today, is an electric hatchback visualisation, but it isn’t a full-sized study, as you’d expect; while it’s built from clay, the concept is a 1:6 scale model offering an exterior design viewpoint exploring an electrified future.
It’s obvious that the EMO is, as its moniker suggests, electric, as shown by the swanky charger assembly placed along with the study. While there was no accompanying info, some details were offered via the EMO game simulator in a booth alongside the display.
In it, it’s stated that the B-segment offering measures in at 3,895 mm long, 1,735 mm wide and 1,515 mm tall, with a 2,500 mm long-wheelbase, which sounds exactly like the current Myvi. With 95 PS and 121 Nm (rather lowish, yes) from its electric motor, performance figures include a 10 second 0-100 km/h time and a 160 km/h top speed.
Elsewhere, a 50 kWh battery offers the concept an operating range of 300-350 km, and via DC charging – at up to 300 kW, it is said – it takes just 20 minutes to get the battery to an 80% SoC.
Design-wise, the five-door hatch – which falls in line with the automaker’s usual fare – looks quite sharp, with short overhangs, but you’ve probably seen some cues elsewhere before, like with the funky grille and general lines.
Since it’s a clay model, there’s no presentation of an interior, but P2 has offered its take of what its electric dream looks like inside, and there’s certainly nothing mild in the layout. In it, the driver gets his/her own defined cockpit space, clearly separated from the front passenger, with colours helping to demarcate the zonal element further. Presumably, there’s no shortage of connectivity in the mix.
All this of course is just visualisation, and there’s nothing to suggest any of the styling cues or design elements will ever see light of day. However, the automaker says that an actual model for the concept will be built by the end of this year or early next year, so it’ll be interesting to see how that pans out. Whatever the case, the EMO concept shows that the automaker is already starting to work on the future. Who knows, this could well be a future-gen Myvi you’re seeing here, and an electric one at that.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Sure the next Myvi/Yaris.
dream la. even Toyota doesnt have it, how to give the cheapest version for perodua to copy?
day dreaming gud. bet this concept preview won’t advanced to prototype stage in your lifetime
Plenty of P2 emos here when talking about national brands.
Was waiting for this announcement, and gee. We got played by Perodua. This is a mockup of no significance. It just tries to show they are going to go EV but with nothing concrete. Just a plan. WE GOT A PLAN! yay, reporters, write that down, now eat some tea and go home.
Its the company secrecy and private matter as it effect their business, they just wayang2 something but for sure they need to get into the EV trend. If not, P2 will not be competitive anymore = no business .
With the ongoing problems like leaky oil filter, dashcam and head unit that have no sight of ending plus the latest crash test rigging issues, Perodua should just pull out from the exhibition. People are offended and enraged now.
daihatsu created issues, perodua should go. good idea.
Oil filter problem created by daihatsu? Dashcam? Head unit?
And the axia was promoted as a project HEADED by Perodua. Why is that not their problem?
isnt that the Yaris GR.
future of myvi is become Yaris?
Its the other way around, lols
thats a Toyota Yaris GR.
susah payah buat suspen cuma tunjuk model yaris turbo.
Should just rebadge the bz4x and start selling it
Bz4x is expensive and not proven compared to Tesla or Atto3 from BYD. People are flocking to buy affordable BYD for price and performance, Tesla for performance.
Dream on lah, you sound like you’re part of the daydreaming crowd that is plaguing this country.
Why not aim for 500kv range
Perodua would have to develop their own battery architecture and come out with something novel to fit 70kWh inside a B-segment platform. But even Toyota and Daihatsu with their vast resources haven’t done so.
In what way does this look like the GR Yaris lol? Do these people’s visions only have 144p resolution?
Who shows a scale model concept car at a motor show? Perodua apparently lol. Like did they just pick one of their already existing scaled down clay models just so they have something to show and grab people’s attention?
Time bezza dulu pun model kat motorshow gempak gila. Dah keluar kat pasaran macam langit dengan bumi bezanya
Time bezza dulu pun model kat motorshow gempak gila. Dah keluar kat pasaran macam langit dengan bumi
A bit of doubt this will be the real model in the future. Just make us shock sendiri.
Why do emotional this cap pisau car company
It sounds like concept car.
Be realistic, get a production car Seagull from BYD., Which is cheap and affordable.
Why so emo?
EMO? Wow…talk about boh tak chek! They have to choose a name like EMO for their car. I suppose you have to be overly EMOtional to buy an electric car from a company that cannot even source a working oil filter!
Our oil is still relatively cheap compare to other country. Not to mention charging cost about the same as fueling up and still need to spend time to let it charged up. Imo, perodua should go for hybrid tech first. Toyota got some for rebrand.
Combine it with axia/bezza engine which relatively very fuel economic, we can get great mpg number
why eat KFC when you can eat nasi putih? both also makes you full. Apa lojgic engkau ni?
EV cars once you have used it, you will not want to use old petrol cars anymore. Very fun, very quick, very quiet. You baby can sleep inside the car and wont be woken up by your noisy exhaust 2 inci tapi kereta semput.
Ayla ev concept look alike
So they show a 1:6 scale CLAY MODEL and then talk about how wonderful the finished product will be (300kW charging rate etc)? Who shall design the product? Daihatsu, who has no experience with EV’s at all?
Baik laaa fokus fuel save dulu dari nk buat ev…makan modal…mne nye nk buat power station import battery lagi..
focus fuel save lagi bazir masa dan wang. enjin minyak petrol sudah sampai penghujung jalan. akan phase-out. baik guna masa dan wang buat selidikan untuk masa depan. ini baru bisnes bijak.
The car can ride on water too. No need to worry about flooding anymore. Not only that, it will be 500km range and can plug into your house power socket. Charging time will be lower too, like charging your handphone, if you purchase the charger along with the car. It will be 100% developed by Perodua.
~Just woke up…
Eh.. pelik je dream nie.
if the myvi comes with ev, then they’re no longer the “king of the road” loh
