According to a report by Turkish paper Today’s Zaman, Proton intends to make Turkey its European production center. Proton’s Turkish distributor is Ulu Motor, part of the Ulubaslar Group.
The Turkish automotive industry produced 1.13 million vehicles last year, and expects to hit the 2 million annual production mark by 2012. It is now ranked number 10 in the world in terms of annual production of cars. In the past 4 months this year, Turkey’s automotive exports rose 52% compared to the same period in 2007.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
If I’m not mistaken, Proton closed shop on its Turkey manufacturing operations long time ago.

Whats the benefit of building cars in Turkey?
Proton has already got more than excess of manufacturing capacity.
topgunthang, are you 100% sure proton pr dept did this? i find it very strange, because there isn’t even any news about this in the local papers. knowing proton, and being a listed company, you cant simply blurt out news like this. sounds more like speculation on the turkish media’s part.
besides that, if you’re gonna post about sales figures, why dont you enlighten us all about proton’s uk and australia sales figures? i cant seem to find any info on it at all on the web. maybe i’m searching in the wrong place.
as for turkey, strangely enough, the turkish proton website doesnt even list the proton wira as being on sale at all. that picture of the old wira doesnt mean anything. if i took a pic of an abandoned old car of any brand, and posted it on the web and said that company kaput already doesnt make it true either.
maybe there is this phantom proton factory?
For those been to Turkiye, what kind of cars do folks there drive really.. big or small, European, American or Japanese… Does Savvy and Persona make sense in Turkiye? Coz if I’m not mistaken, Savvy enjoyed not bad sales in UK? or smthin’.
Difficult to find stats….
UK proton sales 2007: 2,468 units (0.1% of total market, 2.4million new cars registered). Don’t have the breakdown by model.
