Proton-Petronas launch ATF-XP3 auto transmission fluid

Proton-Petronas launch ATF-XP3 auto transmission fluid

Proton and Petronas have just launched a co-brand automatic transmission fluid (ATF) in Putrajaya moments ago. The ATF, which is called ATF-XP3, was jointly developed by the national carmaker and Petronas. It’s specially formulated and extensively field tested for Proton cars, according to the carmaker.

The ATF-XP3 is manufactured from highly refined high viscosity index unconventional base oils, and it contains unique friction modifying properties for smooth transmission operation, better protection against wear and improved cleanliness. The ATF-XP3 is also claimed to offer exceptional high and low temperature protection.

Meeting Proton’s PES-1133 standard, the ATF-XP3 is recommended for use in auto ‘boxes where Dexron type fluid is not suitable. The new product is also suitable for auto transmissions with a slip-controlled torque converter which requires ATF-9.

The ATF-XP3 can be used on the following auto models: Saga (1985-2007), Saga BLM, Iswara, Wira/Satria/Putra (1993-2008), Waja (2000, Campro and CPS), Gen2/Satria Neo (Campro and CPS), Persona and Exora. ATF-XP3 is NOT recommended for use in the Perdana, Waja 1.8 and Savvy. It’s also NOT for the Inspira with CVT.

The ATF-XP3 (1 litre bottle) retails for RM29.96 in Peninsular Malaysia and RM30.46 in East Malaysia. It’s available nationwide in all Proton service centres and will be the default recommended ATF from now, replacing the Proton ATF-SP111, which costs RM30.91, so there’s a bit of savings involved.

It’s just a matter of 55-cent savings per change… but who cares, as long as we can still save, right…

          RM 0.95 X 4 = RM 3.80 difference in Peninsular Malaysia
          RM 0.55 x 4 = RM 2.20 difference in East Coast

          That hurts your pocket ?

Savings at the right time is correct but I heard from my friend that went during the launching, during the Q&A, there is a question being asked that whether we can replace with this oil directly, answer is NO NO, the gearbox have to be fully flushed and the total bottles needed including new fluids is around 7-8bottles.

            So savings?

The warranty covers both fluids as the new ATF is intended as a replacement for the older one, but for future models it will only cover this new one, even if Proton is going to use the same auto gearbox for its future models. Inspira is a definitely no-no; it requires only CVT fluids or else the same cases like what happened to the older Honda City CVT gearbox will be plagued again. Same goes for Savvy AMT (I don’t know what kind of gearbox fuel being used).

I wouldn’t say that it’s a replacement, if it’s a replacement, why Perdana cant be used? of course we are not comparing to inspira or savvy.
Why a higher spec car can’t use this oil ?

In what way this ATF is better?

If better and cheaper, I think Petronas should also partner with Proton-Lotus to set up an engineering branch to develop ATF for other makes such as Renault-Nissan, Toyota & Mitsubishi.

Lotus designs engine.. perhaps can utilize Petronas expertise in developing new ATF formulation.

[[[[Wira/Satria/Putra (1993-2008), Waja (2000, Campro and CPS), Gen2/Satria Neo (Campro and CPS), Persona and Exora. ATF-XP3 is NOT recommended for use in the Perdana,]]]]

if i’m not mistaken….wira/satria 1.6-1.8 was using same gearbox as perdana gearbox for Auto-Trans…..but then why wira can use but not perdana???
