Two Proton Persona R prototypes caught on the highway

Two Proton Persona R prototypes caught on the highway

Ah, the Persona R seems to be getting sighted more and more often these days. It looks like Proton is ramping up the on road testing, but it must still be quite some time until the launch as there’s still lots of camo on the car. Reader Peter Low sent in these shots of two Persona R prototypes on the highway.

Two Proton Persona R prototypes caught on the highway

Actually since there’s not much to see with these heavily disguised spy shots other than a sign that the car is slowly moving closer to production, what’s more interesting is a certain blue car that was escorting these two Proton Persona R prototypes.

We’ll come to that in a post after this.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
    • You are right in some senses of bashing the brand but not about the power windows.

The power window is nothing new tech in the market and P1 has this problem more than 10 years ago. If it doesn’t get such a small part working properly, how can we trust it for other parts and new tech. Can they assure that its engine won’t stall suddenly or catch fire? or maybe have better turning radius than the current ones? Therefore, in what sense they are claiming that it is “Lotus ride & handling”? it is because Lotus is owned by P1 and it is just a psychology of marketing.

P1 should re-evaluate their strategy in order to compete with others and get its respect by Malaysian first. Because we hold the majority shares in its annual sales chart.

Should be in the same price range of the model it replace.

Cannot always increase (more exepensive than the previous model) then by the 5th generation Persona replacement will be out of reach of Malaysian budget.

paul, i love to comment on proton’s design just like most of people here do yes e.g. the rims which I think the point is valid; current generation cars like the new city, mazda 3 or hyundai for that matter, the rims are gorgeous, you now what I mean – But again that’s not really the big point.

For me Proton should be concentrating on bigger picture. You see, these days manufacturers are not making mere or big changes in design, rather they are doing a ‘quantum leap’ or a revolution in design. We can see this in the new Mazda, Kia/ Hyundai/ Ford and the rest.

Also if you notice today, on our streets, Alphard, BMW, Audi or even jaguar (premium cars) are commonly sighted everywhere – a rare scenario before. Which means people’s demand and taste have moved upward. A case of strong demand from the middle and upper middle class group I would say. Entry level cars such City, Vios, Fiesta are keeping up to this trend and providing better package. B and C segment cars are getting so call ‘premium touch’ here and there.

I think this is where the industry is going, and I think Proton should be more and more sensitive to this. Yes Saga, Persona or Exora are good cars but its time to move up, its time to shift. Now it is the time that today’s story and proton car state have to change. People and demand are changing everyday and changing fast and that is my hope for this Persona R.

  • for my personnal view I think Proton should make like the previous Persona.. now this new what its call ‘ R ‘,,? The exterior now is diffrent.. Persona trademark is at the back and front exterior.. Proton should do something about it.. Now this upcoming persona are similar to other car which is I cant mantion here.. The old Persona or Gen-2.. Now ‘ R ‘.. NO IDENTITY at al.. Why Proton..? Why Proton..? I think the last Persona Eligence is better looking.. Should do like *** manufacture, just make a bit big or medium big from previous production and cut and make a new trim and layer on it.. So dissapointed.. but all the conlusion wil see on the date of lunch…

There’s nothing wrong of retaining the model name. In fact, even auto giants also do the same and yet those cars sell like pisang goreng till now. Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic are here since almost 4 decades and they still sell a lot till now.

    1) New aluminium block engine c/w VVT technology & new 5 speed auto gearbox.
    2) Total kerb weight less than 1200kg.
    3) Equiped with ABS, EBD, BA & airbag (optional).
    4) Comply with Euro NCAP crash standard.
I don’t think the so called life time warranty fort he power window system is necessary at all if the future Proton cars comply to the requirements as above.

  • there is nothing to peak on a test car coz it still used prototype not the real interior. But the only thing i could say that the dash is something new, never seen in proton, three tier dash, like in bmw but of couse, not the same quality, but seem like to use soft rubber(hopefullly) it is more driver focus, the meter panel is which u could expect from current proton, backlit one, there is manual override for the gear lever. The other part still use the from proton bin. But that is temporary until the production one arrive. The same as exterior, still use temporary part. Still wait to see the real one, only manage to glance on the prototype one.

Im just felt rather amused when seeing the guy for blaming the p1 for testing their performance variant at the high way,and ask for testing it on those worst hole bumping road condition instead..Hello,are u seriously thinking of we are testing on a lorry, truck, hammer,or a jeep the least? A rationalized common sense leading you testing and developing a car’s perfomance, handling, percision, stability on those extreme road conditions? Developing reliablity is one,and the perfomance is definitely another..such a car foolish for commenting in that way as well as his supporter…amazing…

What about the crappy door handles that break………….the expensive fuel pump?

The problem with the Proton is the people working there………….its a government run company……that has employees that behave like a government bureaucracy……..they take a super lax attitude………..if u guys want to be in the game with other players…then start being professional about things. I believe although they give life time warranty. However, I believe that they will use certain ” hidden terms and condition ” to disturb you, so that in the end you wont get the so-called life time warranty.

Proton are use to do that. You know for warranty, as my experience before, the limit is RM2500 only. If your warranty claim exceed this amount, although your car is brand new and less than 3 months, your warranty deemed void as well.
