VIDEO: Volkswagen Golf R Mk7 testing on the ‘Ring

The Volkswagen Golf R Mk7 has been busy doing running trials on the Nurburgring, where our hardworking Automedia spy crew caught it on video. The car is likely to premiere in Frankfurt this coming September.

Like the Mk6 R incarnation, the 4MOTION-equipped Mk7 R will be powered by a 2.0 litre turbo mill, but with far more pep – reports suggest that the car could well be a 300 hp beast (the current car has 270 PS) and will be lighter than the outgoing car. The reports add that the new R is likely to be cheaper than its predecessor – great news for fans if it rings true.

What else can be expected? An updated version of the GTI‘s optional electronically-operated mechanical front limited-slip diff might find its way on to the car, as might a specially-developed electronic stability system that can be deactivated.

Emm… 300bhp is falling short of that of A45 AMG (335bhp). Will take a Merc anytime.

Does it really affect us ?
It will still be Rocket high price for Malaysian, whereby our government will just say we will gradually decrease the car price. Let’s keep our finger cross

Everycar also got problem. Do you think BMW & Mercedes no problem at all?

      • yeaah.. you’re right it is just that the problem is tolerable or not. In this case a gearbox failure is totally unacceptable as it is a critical part in a car’s system. VW salesman spotted here.

Very cool, it’s my dream to own a Golf GTI/R (getting there!). I spied one with roll cage though, could they be testing to replace the Polo WRC with a Golf? :p

The incident of the woman who died while driving a Golf in Australia is unrelated to DSG failures: she was driving a manual Golf. There doesn’t seem to be any mention of this fact in the press here in Aus; the truth getting in the way of a good story?
