Honda “2SJ” Brio-based A-segment SUV on test

It looks like prototypes of the upcoming Honda Brio-based A-segment SUV is now ready and have been shipped from Thailand to India for testing. How do we know this? It seems that shipment logs showing a few units of the upcoming Brio SUV landing in India back in April 2015 have made their way to the internet.

The logs reveal the Brio SUV’s internal codename – 2SJ. It’s bigger brother the HR-V has the codenamed 2XP. The SUV’s launch will bring the Brio family’s bodystyle count up to four – Honda has already built the Brio hatchback, the Brio Amaze sedan and the Mobilio MPV on the platform.

Other A-segment SUVs that it will have to compete with include the Renault Kwid, an upcoming Datsun SUV and whatever production vehicle the Volkswagen Taigun concept ends up becoming.

The Honda Vision XS-1 Concept SUV that premiered at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo is most likely a preview of what the 2SJ SUV is, though the radical concept did not quite look production-ready. The concept was a seven-seater though – will the production car have three rows as well?

Looks a bit like the BMW i3, the clampshell bonnet and the front bumpers. But a warm welcome and effort. Clearly shows that they’re on the roll, unlike Toyota copying the “High Resale Value” HRV design for their dinosaur aVANza.

This is going to be another hot seller. Soon Honda will overtake P2 when the price barrier comes down & Proton to take on another name following the footsteps of MAS.
