There is now footage of the Proton Iriz R5 rally car tackling the Goodwood forest rally stage, and it looks quick. Prepared by Mellors Elliot Motorsport, the Iriz R5 rally car is built by Mellors Elliot Motorsport, a UK-based motorsport firm which has been preparing the Proton Iriz into a WRC2-eligible rally car.

Here in separate video clips, the Proton Iriz R5 dons a gravel/rough road chassis configuration, compared to the larger wheeled, lower-riding setup seen before that. The Iriz R5 showed great promise and appeared to be going quicker and quicker, according to the commentator. Its driver certainly couldn’t be faulted for not trying, as the second video shows the Iriz R5 clipping the hay bale on the inside of a left-hand bend, pitching it unto two wheels.

Under the hood, the Iriz R5 packs a modified 4B11T engine from the Mitsubishi Evolution X, albeit with sleeved cylinders to bring its displacement to 1.6 litres, in line with WRC2 regulations, which will also qualify it for the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC).

The Proton Iriz R5 follows another Proton collaboration with Mellors Elliot Motorsport, the Satria S2000 rally car which in Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC), Super 2000 World Rally Championship (SWRC) and the APRC, which saw it win the drivers’, constructors’, and teams’ titles in 2011.

A heavily modded Proton won 1 race. What so surprise? Proton is junk without modification, the problem is, many Proton still a junk after mod.

          • A modded junk is faster than supposedly much better competitors.
Hmm, why does it sound like Millennium Falcon?

all you guys did is show your total lack of ignorance.. R5 is an FIA category of rally car.. there are R5 rally cars made by mitsubishi, hyundai, peugeot, ford, skoda… etc. and this car isn’t built by Proton.. its built by MEM, and independent british rally car builder.
