Electrification seems like the next big thing for the automotive industry, with environmentalists eagerly championing the cause to reduce carbon footprint on a global scale. While some countries have gone as far as to ban vehicles powered by conventional internal combustion engines, many more have yet to join the fray.
For us, the process seems to be taking its time, but hey, better late than never, right? To that effect, Honda Malaysia is the first to bring the cost of entry to electrified motoring below the RM90k mark. The uptake seems great, with over 1,200 bookings made for the City and Jazz Hybrid duo (as of October 2, 2017), but the challenge is not over just yet.
The video above, featuring Dennis Yin, addresses some of the basic concerns when it comes to owning a Honda hybrid. This covers the aspects of performance, fuel efficiency, maintenance costs and some of the perks of Honda’s i-DCD system. To recap, the system combines a 1.5 litre engine and an electric motor to deliver 137 PS and 170 Nm of torque, with drive being sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

i lovey man with toned physique. Awwww Dennis.
Inb4 but i am straight
Hybrid might be good in colder countries, imagine a battery park under our hot climate might be upto 40 degree inside the battery compartment, day after day, is the battery able to last, japan climate is colder. This goes to all hybrid sell here.
Cold
Countries can get hotter than Malaysia in the summer
Audi hybrid in europe no issues. In msia big problem.
Measured. 44°C before rainy season. Automotive lithium degrades badly at 60°C.
Closer to 60°C degrades faster too of course.
Besides degrading, the car might explode. The heat in Malaysia is way too hot.
It is like carrying a small bomb in your car boot. Anyway, has Malaysia resolved the bad RV for hybrids yet? The A6 Hybrid is an example. Can even get a 2014 A6 Hybrid for RM99k from RM380k brand new. Toyota Prius also now can get RM30k…just few yr old car
Malaysian 2nd hand market still super scared to touch hybrid.
So, whatever money you save on petrol, you lose 10x on super low RV
When it has bad RV, thats where u can get ur demanded 30% diskaun. So why still complain?
User reviews says the DCT & switchover from ICE to EV modes & back, causes jerkiness at slow speed drives (eg traffic jams). Did PT reviewers try out this situation?
iDCD owner here. Can confirm jerk on low speed. Switchover is fine, like uneven road, no feel. Even worse is when o battery, it makes the car become a 3 speed dry clutch auto gearbox. It shifts harshly at low speeds (under 25km/h) occasionally. Worst jerk measured with obd shows 8km/h deceleration in 0.7seconds when it shifts. It. Is. Hell. This happens only when out of batteries, but it happens more often than you think. It usually happens after every toll cause need to climb 5degree incline slope for few 200 meters… Then no battery.
May I ask how do you deplete the battery as I understand the engine will charge the battery as soon as the level drops. It’s all done automatically.
No battery refers to the point where the car starts turning on the engine to prioritise charging the battery. Climbing uses hybrid assist which drains the battery quickly, unless you slowly climb at 40km/h on a 80km/h highway.
Oh very nicely done in the Botanic Car Mall, I will be there tomorrow to service my car haha…
A nice twist to how cars are reviewed with the Q&A between Dennis and that err… is he a real Honda service person or just an actor?
Good job.
Surprisingly these new honda hybrids have not blazing of the shelf like they have wanted.
Buy Honda better don’t buy Perodua cause Perodua doesn’t have any safety features, Perodua also having rear axle problem and Perodua also doesn’t have any EV vehicles where Honda have more safety features, Honda also doesn’t have any rear axle problem and also Honda have EV vehicles. Lastly, Hopefully Honda will increase their sales and Perodua sales will keep on dropping
Perodua is dead brand in reality. Should not even exist in our world at all. Dead AF company.
Those desperate for a new car should buy a Kia Piccanto instead of a Shitbox AXIA. Watch the Driven show from paultan on youtube and you will get the clear picture. Life is more important than Sam Loo’s RV.
why didn’t mention how much is the tyre sealant cost?
Scared people turn away from buying after knowing the tyre sealant price is the same as a new tyre?
The tyre repair kit is a deal breaker for me. Pancit one time = buy one new tyre. Siao ah?
Great car BTW what is the battery replacement cost with that 15% discount?
Rm 5000 – 15% diskaun
the 7k km test before launch does not seem to address the battery performance and longevity in our hot climate.
will the battery really last throughout its warranty? only time will tell
BullS**t marketing scam or gimmick to get into Malaysian car buyer’s mindset to buy Honda cars only as usual.
Dont be fooled by Honda’s marketing videos and advertisements giving wrong impressions.
Honda competitors are more superior in the real world, Malaysia included. Bodoh AF Honda Malaysia.
This advertisement is funny because the sales people are actually taking the time to explain in a civilised manner and speaking relatively good English at that. Plus they have knowledge about the product!
Is this really the scenario in Bolehland??? :)
Only in malaysia where honda jazz hybrid consider lowered spec than V
