Perodua Bezza GXtra launched – replaces the 1.0 Standard G, more equipment but cheaper, fr RM35.5k

The Perodua Bezza gains a new variant in the form of the GXtra, which replaces the 1.0 Standard G in the range. Customers are being offered the Bezza GXtra at an introductory price of RM35,500 for one with the manual transmission and RM37,500 if you prefer an automatic. These prices are on-the-road without insurance, and includes a five-year/150,000 km warranty.

The GXtra comes with an enhanced kit list, where side skirts and chrome door handles have been added to the exterior. There’s also a new Ocean Blue exterior colour available – an option that was previous reserved for 1.3L variants of the Bezza.

Inside, piano black trim has been applied on the dashboard and panel surrounding the multimedia system, which itself has been improved with Bluetooth connectivity. In other areas, the air-con vent surrounds, steering wheel spokes and gear lever base now gain a satin finish. Rounding things off are chrome door handles to mimic those on the outside.

The rest of the equipment is largely similar to the 1.0 Standard G, including 14-inch alloy wheels, fabric seats, a polyurethane steering wheel, manual side mirrors, 60:40 split-folding rear seats, reverse sensors, power windows, dual airbags and ABS with EBD and brake assist. If you want VSC, you’ll have to go for the higher-spec 1.3 Advance.

Under the bonnet is a 1KR-VE 1.0 litre three-cylinder petrol engine that continues to serve up 67 hp and 91 Nm. The mill is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed automatic transmission, with drive going to the front wheels.

Once again, the Bezza GXtra is priced at RM35,500 (manual) and RM37,500 (automatic), with both being less than their 1.0 Standard G equivalents – RM36,035 (manual) and RM37,980 (automatic). In a sense, you get more for a little bit less with the new variant. Interested?

What’s the point of force induction for lightweight city-driving car? It adds extra weight and most importantly mechanical complexity (although adding power, but what’s the point?) & totally defeats the purpose of this entry-level car. +Forced induction engines will very likely to break and go wrong in long run as we have known so far by looking by (basically) all the other manufactures out there (VW being the worst offender in the league). Personally I’m driving a Civic 1.5 Turbo, and dare not even keep (own) that car for more than 5 years. Gets your facts right first before making any comments to prevent embarrassing youself.

This car will wipe out Saga completely. Now Perodua sales confirmed will be 250,000 this year and Proton sales will be 50,000 (drop from 70,000)

Proton sales keep on dropping dropping and dropping

    • P2 introduce this Gxtra because so far buyers are opting more for 1.3 instead of 1.0. Think of this as a way to increase 1.0 sales. If still no significant increase, P2 will very likely drop the 1.0 models from the Bezza lineup.

No, despite Perodua’s ambition to “annihilate” Proton’s bread and better sedan sales through its iteration of Bezza, Bezza sales has never been up to Perdoua’s initial projection, let alone the dismay sales figure put up by 1.0 version sales (hence this cosmestic “upgraded” GXtra). Consider this a rare mistake made by Perodua product strategy team of wrongly segmenting the 1.0 as part of the lineup.

On the contrary, Saga and Persona still registered respectable numbers every month, despite the onslaught of Perodua’s new Myvi since last November.

Bezza in accense, is a hollow-econ-box made for third world commute requirement, nothing more, nothing less. It’s ride quality, handling, refinement, comfortness are just below par and meant for bare bone motoring experience. For people seeking for some substantiated qualities from a basic car, the Saga will fit the bill far more competantly than this Bezza could muster.

To its credit, the Bezza does sells well for Grab or Ubering purpose because of its hollow, no frills simplicity, coupled rock solid Japanese derived drivetrain reliability, it’s a true cost effective platform for ride servicing industry.

Well-loved. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 80 Thumb down 3

Please Perodua. Internal structural changes are much more important than cosmetic. The Bezza suffers from sub-par ride comfort, handling, engine noise, nvh & interioe plastics rattling. Reinforce the chassis with more high strength steel & tune it to be at least on par with Picanto, which is the benchmark in the A segment. Its 2018 already and the Bezza/Axia’s driving dynamics felt like the older Myvi introduced 15 years ago.

Yes, Bezza is a hollow-econ-box meant for bare bone, third world commute requirement. And for the asking price of 50k in the form of the high spec “Advance” variant, it is very very expesnive for such an unsubstantiated car.

  • Most people go for the 1.3 models, so this Gxtra is to increase sales of the 1.0. If the 1.0 still not selling after this, P2 might drop the 1.0 from the lineup and retain 1.3 only during the facelift.

Buy the latest Proton Persona 1.6 at 45k. It has most of the uptodate gadgets and definitely worth it. Dont worry about the power windows…it comes with a 10 years guarantee. It also has a very spacious boot and I am very sure the Geely partner has put in the revised quality control system.

I settled for the 1.3 Bezza. Honestly I was eyeing the Iriz 1.3 but having so many friends complaining about the CVT in various P1 models I decided to forget about P1 for now. I rather have a reliable car instead of a better spec on which may come with sakit kepala in the future. I have even complained to P1 about the CVT & hope they will look into it.
