QUICK LOOK: Honda Civic Type R Mugen Concept

Making its regional debut here in Malaysia is none other than the red hot FK8 Honda Civic Type R Mugen Concept. As the name suggests, the souped up hot hatch is still in the concept stage and is not available as an aftermarket kit just yet. So, what’s in store?

Essentially, the Mugen Concept is by and large a styling kit, comprising a more aggressive front bumper with raised fins on the lower lip, carbon-fibre radiator grille with Mugen badge, 20-inch dual-tone multispoke wheels, more prominent side skirts and carbon-fibre side mirror caps.

Over to the back, the standard rear spoiler and aero fins are retained, although the tail lights and rear bumper have been completely replaced by new Mugen units. Other changes include red sports bucket seats, leather-wrapped gear knob and steering wheel dressed in carbon-fibre trim.

The primary idea is to showcase the car as a trial platform for aesthetic enhancements, and there’s no mention of mechanical changes as yet. This means the Type R’s 2.0 litre VTEC Turbo mill in the Japanese example should be putting out the usual 320 PS and 400 Nm. Do you like the way it looks, though?

In the old days, we can drive our hot hatch daily doing ‘daily’ things whithout having to make sacrifice. We can actually lives with it on daily basis.
As time flies hot hatch esp from the east has becomes nonsense, useless, like walking around under hot sun while wearing wet suit, too costly to justify its plus point (in My lah).
One might just buy some used conti car which is few second off on a racetrack but is liveable everyday.

Gone are the Evo days, Type R is to follow and next up GTR…

    • To be fair, older hot hatches rarely reach 300 hp stock. The FK8 CTR is actually more comfortable than the FD2.

  • Old cock n dull story.. been ages since the model is released. Why didn’t mention due to weight distribution 62.5% at the front thus pairing w manual transmission will be more responsive to drive?
