VIDEO: Daihatsu new SUV – 2020 Perodua D55L SUV?

The Daihatsu New Compact SUV is now on display at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show. Check out what will likely be Perodua’s new D55L B-segment SUV for next year in this quick video!

Though it’s technically shown as a “concept” in Tokyo, the SUV clearly looks production ready. The Perodua links are also clear to see, especially at the rear. You can just about imagine the front with a Perodua logo and grille for an early peek at what should be the Malaysian car manufacturer’s big splash in 2020.

The 980-kg Daihatsu SUV measures 3,995 mm long, 1,695 mm tall, 1,620 mm wide, and has a 2,525 mm wheelbase. This makes it larger than the current Myvi, which has a length of 3,895 mm, width of 1,735 mm, height of 1,515 mm and a wheelbase spanning 2,500 mm.

Powering the Daihatsu SUV is a turbocharged and intercooled three-cylinder petrol engine, with the 996-cc mill serving up 98 PS at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque from 2,400 to 4,000 rpm. This is mated to a CVT driving the front wheels. The Perodua version, meanwhile, is likely to run the usual 1.3/1.5 litre four-cylinder engine, perhaps even with hybrid technology in tow.

We previously sighted a Perodua development model going up Genting Highlands earlier this month, which appeared to be a test mule wearing a stretched Axia body. Prior to that, the Malaysian carmaker showcased the X-Concept during the 2018 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show, and if this indeed becomes Perodua’s B-segment SUV, it will most likely get a unique front end inspired by said concept.

Continuing the unbroken historical chain of rebadging. So what Malaysian in this car that our resident fanboy is talking about?

I hope Perodua rebadge this game changing SUV soon. It will easily game the upcoming Proton X50 over as people trust Japanese car more than China cars. Moreover, this new Daihatsu SUV design is stunning and manly, interior also looks modern and advance with many features

I don’t mind losing RV as I get to enjoy the car. If you need to worry on RV, that tells you cannot afford it. Somemore I don’t trust Japanese quality anymore after Takata, I prefer to trust Geely’s Volvo quality.

25 years of continuous rebadging and still will be rebadging until Armageddon. I am ashamed they are called national car maker but until today they are not able to come out with their own car which we can proudly call our own.

Perodua mmg tukang rebadge. The market is too small for full scale new model or platform.
Their partner can sell perodua assembled cars in other market for cost cutting strategy.

Perodua won’t bother bringing this in unless, they are also doing contract manufacturing for Daihatsu for APAC countries.

Weird to position this against their own Aruz especially, given that the last Kembara wasn’t that popular

1st generation kembara was popular due to affordable price, but 2nd generation not much difference with Toyota Rush so…. Bad sales.. If this selling 50 to 60k, then different story… Since rumour X50 from 70k to 99k…

        “Since rumour X50 from 70k to 99k”

That’s rumour only. Even their official announcement of 200K sales a year also never happen.

You do realise that was a long term target and not something they want to achieve in this year? At least what they said is more credible than some hack company claiming 20km/L which no one can achieve or the lie that ESC cannot be fitted now suddenly can be done.

Aruz wasn’t hot enough to topple X70 so they are pushing the panic button before the imminent arrival of X50.
