Sales for the Proton Saga facelift has officially crossed the 100,000 mark, less than 30 months since its launch back in August 2019. This makes it the best-selling A-segment sedan in the country – the automaker also sold 5,666 units of the Saga last month.
This is quite a feat, considering the recurring lockdowns that disrupted vehicle production over the past two years. Nevertheless, demand for the Saga remains strong, and at one point Proton received 500 bookings daily.
To recap, the 2019 update introduced the “Infinite Weave” grille, LED DRLs and sleek 15-inch twin five-spoke alloys for the Premium model, body-coloured number plate garnish with the “Proton” script, as well as new front and rear bumpers.
Inside, there’s a new Android-based seven-inch “floating” touchscreen head unit with Bluetooth connectivity and 16GB of internal storage, as well as a new instrument panel. Other additions include a new automatic gear lever (button on the side), higher quality Tricot headlining (like the X70), new map lights with LEDs, a new sun visor with ticket holder and vanity mirror, and new grab handles.
Motive power remains unchanged, so the good old 1.3 litre four-cylinder engine continues to deliver 95 PS at 5,750 rpm and 120 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. A five-speed manual gearbox is offered for the base Standard MT, but every other variant gets a new four-speed torque converter automatic gearbox sourced from Hyundai, as used in the Kia Picanto. Find out what we think of the Saga in our in-depth review, and see how it fared in an exhaustive eco drive stretching 650 km!

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Congratulations, on average of 28months, it’s nearly 3600/month.
Kudos to geely Chinas! Fantastik lokal car
Tak payah pikir, tak payah pening. Beli P1 saja.
Aku tak pikir, aku tak pening, dan akhirnya tak jadi beli.. Simpan aje duit utk hari tua…
Best A segment sedan in Malaysia.
Make the excise duty policy fair for other non-national car brands and we’ll see if this is still possible.
You talk like you know everything but its all bulls**t. You think by making it “fair”, the likes of Honda City and Toyota Vios will have the price of a Saga? You know it means that the price for City and Vios will significantly drop 50%, right?
It’s all relative, and I didn’t claim that I know everything — merely that with a level playing field and a limited wallet size, people can make their own choices without being forced to buy local cars. But this is the internet, so you can assume what you will.
Yes, similarly because this is the internet, you’re assuming that people are being forced to buy local brands. The term “no-brainer” exists not because it’s just a slang. It exists because local brands are simply the no-brainer choice overall. If I’m buying a car, I won’t decide from a brand perspective to increase my social status – isn’t that what most people think – regardless of your wallet size, try to buy at least Honda or Toyota so that your social status is a bit higher? (oh yes, I definitely am assuming this).
But P2 fanbois will cry when that happens. P1 tak kecoh pun.
Nobody is stopping nonnationals from selling cheap cars. If 1st gen almera was sold for rm65k why vios or City cannot for the same price? Why almera today sold at 80k, why not 65k as before? It is all about profits!
Try making cars & selling them without profits. That’s why a lot of car makers in the early days of the auto industry had to bungkus. Today it’s more challenging. That’s why different car makers have to share platforms to save cost. Some also have to form an alliance, the most recently being Stellantis. The bottom line is if they won’t sell you at the price you want, then don’t buy. Believe me, you have more important things to think about like supporting yourself & your family.
maybe slightly better than burukdua perodua’s lousy bezza ?
that means burukton saga is also very close to the lousy category
Proton’s figure always include export sales since Geely takeover.
Yeah, if the other local brand have exports, they also will include. Unfortunately they don’t because it will affect their sister’s brand sales figure. In contrast, their sister also don’t sell exact same models here either, except for the other sister (hint: Rush & Aruz).
While export sales are growing exponentially, the bulk is still from domestic sales.
Tahniah P1! Kegemaran rakyat Malaysia dulu kini selamanya
Myvi is king, mcm saya.
King naik dividers?
Yg tu King yg lain.. King Kong.
As an owner, I must commend this car. FOr the price, you do get a lot of metal for the money. It is far from perfect but as my personal ride (the company car is a conti), I have derived much pleasure.
The ride is smooth, the cabin is comfortable, and the CVT is gone, thankfully! If I were to nitpick, I would ask for a better engine (Geely 1.0T, perhaps?) but even as is, it does its job well. Consumption for a sedate driver like me is really superb. How sedate? My driving gets me 510kms from a full tank of the X70, my other car, on eco setting. Weep, people…. maybe PROTON can do a one tank challenge there…
If I nitpick further, better front bulbs would be welcomed so I bought a better one (not HID). All in all, this is a great sub-40k car.And the pride of owning the first nameplate of the Malaysian car brand? Priceless.
Saga is a legend! Very berbaloi car to buy.
Are they still making RM500 nett profit for each unit sold?
RM500 x 100,999 = RM50.5 mill net profit since 2019.
Not sure whether to laugh or cry hahah
LCR has asked vendors to cut prices by 30% so that each car can get around 10% profit.
RM4000 x 100,999 = RM404 million net profit since 2019.
This shows cheap small sedan would always be proton bread n butter. Proton cannot rely on SUV aline especially with the likes of X70… a live time bomb including problem with its gearbox, radiator fan motor, touch screen control issues and numurous sensors.. likes for EPB. And absorbers.
Biggest problem would be parts supply which is a very hot issue among the owners, and you can reqd them in facebook X70 problems
I wonder where that guy who said “nobody buy Saga coz low RV. After 2 years will drop 80% in RV” when the current facelift was launched in 2019. A quick check on mudahmy, a 2019 premium used Saga is around 25k to 32k depending on the condition (mileage etc.). The current price for premium is RM39,800 so 80% drop after 2 years should be around RM7,960. I mean, I was hoping it would be true so I can buy this for my families at cheap2 price but it’s not! Why did the guy lie about this!?
Something happened to the Saga… Its CVT was replaced by the 4AT.
The same dude was blasting kimchi 4AT back then talking big about Jepun 4AT is king. So where is that king without clothes? Got exposed too many times he finally knew shame and left?
You said it yourself, that MyVi is king, like yourself.
What is the fuel average consumption of Proton Saga
