  • Setel app now shows EV chargers or fuel on home screen depending on type of currently selected car

Setel has a new update where if you choose an electric car as your current vehicle in use, the home screen will default to EV chargers instead of petrol stations.

Previously, the app defaulted to petrol stations and you had to press the question mark icon on the top left and manually choose EV chargers to look for a charger. Setel’s database of EV chargers it can operate includes chargers from EVC’s JomCharge network. Soon, you will also be able to use ChargEV chargers from the Setel app.

Your currently selected vehicle will appear as a small icon of the manufacturer badge on the top right. To ensure you have the correct data in your app, you need to do is key in the model of vehicles you want to use under the Vehicles screen under More on the bottom left. If you’ve already setup the app to work with the ANPR parking feature, you would have already had some vehicles in your app.

All you need to do is update the vehicles to ‘Electric’ and choose what kind of charger plugs you use from a multiple choice of Type 2, CCS2 and Chademo.

The new two-hour parking lots came into effect from September 1 2022 and are marked with an orange border and say “2 jam” in the middle of the lot. They are priced at 50 sen for half an hour instead of 50 sen for an hour.

If you park in one of these new parking lots in an MBSJ area, remember to click ‘Change’ and choose Zon parkir 2 jam.

Setel introduces new auto assistance feature – jump-start, battery replacement, vehicle towing services

Setel users now have access to a new auto assistance feature which provides on-demand services in the event of a vehicle emergency. Offered through the Setel app, available services include battery replacement, jump-start, tyre replacement, emergency refuelling assistance (in case you run out of fuel), vehicle unlock (in case you lock yourself out of your own car) and vehicle towing.

These services are supported by Bateriku.com, which is Setel’s first partner for the auto assistance feature. Just like when refuelling at Petronas stations, each transaction completed through the new feature will earn Setel users Mesra points that can be used to redeem fuel and other rewards.

The auto assistance feature is located the main page of the Setel app, and upon tapping on the on-screen button, a list of services is presented to you. Upon choosing the service you require, you’ll be asked to provide your vehicle’s location, with the option to provide additional information like nearby landmarks and your vehicle’s colour.

Following this, you’ll need to input your vehicle registration number, and upon confirmation, a technician will be dispatched. If the chosen service is battery replacement, you’ll also need to select your vehicle make and model for the system to provide a list of compatible batteries.

“Setel aims to be the constant companion to motorists by offering an ecosystem of mobility services to settle their needs. The auto assistance feature complements the motorists’ journey with access to safety essentials right at their fingertips. The partnership with Bateriku.com expedites the help needed when a Setel user is stranded, minimising the impact of what could be a stressful event,” said Mazlin Erawati Ab Manan, CEO of Setel.

“With the increasing numbers of vehicles on the road, it is crucial for Bateriku.com to make roadside assistance services easily accessible to motorists nationwide via API integration with customer facing platforms such as the Setel app,” commented Azarol Faizi Bin Zakaria Ansari, CEO of Bateriku.com.

“Bateriku.com has served close to one million customers all over the nation and this feat is made possible via its inclusive ecosystem of gig technicians (BHero), entrepreneurs (BPpreneur), partners (BBuddy) and presence at more than 130 physical outlets. We are privileged to be offering our nationwide roadside assist solutions directly to Setel users and we are committed to delivering an awesome customer experience at all times,” he added.

  • Setel introduces new ‘One-Tap Fuelling’ feature – 1,000 users initially; gradual rollout to all in next 2 months

Setel introduces new ‘One-Tap Fuelling’ feature – 1,000 users initially; gradual rollout to all in next 2 months

Setel has introduced a new ‘One-Tap Fuelling’ feature, which enables users to activate a fuel pump and proceed to refuel with one tap upon arrival at any Petronas station nationwide. The feature will initially be made available to the first 1,000 Setel users who registered for it but will gradually be rolled out to more users in the next two months.

“We are constantly innovating and developing solutions that meet our users’ ever-evolving needs, especially in this endemic period where Malaysians are travelling more frequently than before. Over the past four years, our loyal users have continuously raved about their refuelling experience at Petronas stations,” said Mazlin Erawati Ab Manan, CEO of Setel.

She explained that compared to the current process of refuelling with Setel, which requires five taps in the app, the new feature simplifies things to just a single tap after a one-time setup. As with regular fuel purchases made through Setel, users will be able to seamlessly earn Mesra points instantly if they have their loyalty card linked to their account.

“Setel offers a more personalised and faster refuelling journey for its users. Gone are the days of rummaging through wallets for cash or cards to refuel and earn loyalty points. We understand the scarcest resource a customer has is time,” Mazlin Erawati said.

Setel introduces new ‘One-Tap Fuelling’ feature – 1,000 users initially; gradual rollout to all in next 2 months

If you’re interested to gain early access to the ‘One-Tap Fuelling’ feature, you can register by posting an Instagram story or Tweet of your ‘Dah Setel So Far’ page with the caption: “I want One-Tap Fuelling now.” Remember to include the tag @setel as well as the #SetelOneTapFuelling hashtag. Just click the “Dah Setel” floating icon on the main page to access your ‘Dah Setel So Far’ page.

From now until October 4, 2022, users will also stand a chance to win limited edition Setel gift boxes when they upload their most creative video on Instagram or Twitter showing their experience using the One-Tap Fuelling feature with the same tag and hashtag.

In future updates, Setel users will be able to pre-set their preferred fuelling amount – either by litres or a full tank – in the preferences page of the app when setting up the ‘One-Tap Fuelling’ feature. They will also be able to pre-set their preferred payment method, including CardTerus for direct payments via a debit or credit card, as well as Setel Share.

  • Setel Share now supports CardTerus in Malaysia – pay for your loved ones’ fuel using your credit/bank card

Setel Share now supports CardTerus in Malaysia – pay for your loved ones’ fuel using your credit/bank card

You can now use CardTerus as a payment method for Setel Share, which should make it more convenient for Setel Share group owners who prefer not to keep their Setel Wallet (e-wallet) topped up for group members to use.

First introduced in 2020, CardTerus is a function that allows users to pay for fuel and items where payment is made with your credit/bank card instead of the Setel Wallet. This has been available for regular Setel users (not Setel Share) for some time. Meanwhile, Setel Share was launched last December and allows users to pay for their loved ones’ fuel.

When it was first introduced, Setel Share did not support CardTerus and required group owners to upgrade their e-wallet to have a higher maximum balance a single transaction limit. A maximum of two members can be added to a group and the group owner can limit the amount that can be spent (up to RM2,000) per member.

Other features include the ability to safely track and monitor refuelling expenses made by group members as well as the ability to earn Mesra points without having to pass a physical card around. Group owners will also receive real-time notifications for any transaction made in Setel Share and can remove members at any time for security reasons.

With support added for CardTerus, Setel Share payments no longer need to made using the Setel Wallet and can instead be charged directly to a group owner’s credit/bank card. This is also beneficial as certain card providers offer cashback when making direct fuel payments using CardTerus. Setel has long ended the ability for users to get fuel cashback when topping up the Setel Wallet since CardTerus was announced.

  • Setel app now lets you pay for EV charging, both AC and DC chargers available, per minute fees

Setel app now lets you pay for EV charging, both AC and DC chargers available, per minute fees

Setel has released a new EV charging feature in its app, adding to an ever expanding list of things you can do with the Setel app other than just paying for your Petronas fuel.

The list of chargers available is modest for now, but it is likely set to increase rapidly as EV charger operators would likely want to tap into the large install base of Setel users instead of educating the user to download yet another app, signing up for an account and adding a payment method all over again.

Another benefit of using the Setel app for charging is you can earn Mesra points from your paid charging session. Every RM5 you spend on paid charging earns 1 Mesra point.

We recognise some of the chargers on the list as already on the JomCharge app, so it means chargers are able to use multiple apps to activate charging.

  • Setel automated parking payment available at KLCC

Setel automated parking payment available at KLCC

You can now use your Setel e-wallet for automated parking payment at Suria KLCC, with more locations like KLCC Convention Centre and KLCC Lot 91 set to support the feature in the future. Here’s how you get it to work.

Firstly, you’ll need to already be a registered Setel user and key in your vehicle details in the “Parking” menu, which is located in the “More” section of the app – make sure it is the latest version.

Once your vehicle has been added, tap the toggle next to the number plate and enter your PIN/biometric identification to enable automated parking payment. You can register more than one vehicle under your account but only a single enabled vehicle at a time can be selected for the automated parking session.

From there, you simply need to enter through the dedicated Setel lane at Suria KLCC. An automated number plate recognition (ANPR) system will read your vehicle’s number plate and verify it as the enabled vehicle before permitting entry. You can check your parking duration and other details in real-time using the Setel app after you’ve parked.

When exiting, the ANPR will once again read your vehicle’s number plate and end the active parking session, with the parking fee automatically deducted from your Setel e-wallet balance. While you can enter the parking with a low balance (no minimum amount required), you won’t be allowed to leave if there’s insufficient funds to pay the parking fee. For now, you can only use the Setel e-wallet to pay, although more payment options will be added, according to the FAQ.

Unlike other methods of parking payment, there’s no need to pay at a kiosk before exiting or tap a payment card (credit card or Touch ‘n Go) at the exit reader. For example, Sunway Pyramid’s smart parking system also uses ANPR, but you’ll have to pay at a kiosk, tap your payment card at the exit or scan a QR code that takes you to a webpage to make a payment. Setel’s method is more automated since you only need to enable your vehicle and ensure there’s enough balance in the e-wallet.

  • Setel Share launched in Malaysia – share your e-wallet with your loved ones, earn Mesra points together

Setel Share launched in Malaysia – share your e-wallet with your loved ones, earn Mesra points together

Petronas has announced a new feature for its Setel e-payment solution called Setel Share, which allows users to pay for their loved ones’ fuel securely at stations nationwide. To gain access, you’ll need to have version 1.84 of the Setel app on your iOS (via the Apple Store) or Android device (via the Google Play Store or Huawei AppGallery).

Before creating a Setel Share group, users will first need to upgrade their Setel e-wallet to have a higher maximum balance and single transaction limit. After doing so, they can add two other members to pay from the same e-wallet, with the owner of the group being able to safely track and monitor refuelling expenses made by group members.

The feature also makes it easier to earn Mesra points with one account, as there’s no need to pass a physical card around, particularly among family members. Additionally, for security reasons, the Setel Share group owner can set or remove members at any time and will receive real-time notifications for any transaction made via the e-wallet.

“We ran a survey with thousands of Setel users and 71% of them are already paying for fuel for their family members and friends today. With Setel Share, we want to help our customers extend a safer refuelling experience with minimised contact to their loved ones, without them having to top up on their own. Together, we can work towards supporting our nation’s recovery efforts to move into the endemic phase,” said Mazlin Erawati Ab Manan, CEO of Setel.

Existing users can invite family and friends who are not yet on Setel to enjoy Setel Share features and earn additional rewards in the process through the latest Setel Refer-a-Friend Challenge. From now until December 31, 2021, users can unlock special badges to earn even more rewards and bonus credit of up to RM50,000 upon successful referrals.

  • Petronas Setel goes beyond fuel payment – Deliver2Me feature and in-store cashless payment for items added

Petronas Setel goes beyond fuel payment – Deliver2Me feature and in-store cashless payment for items added

Petronas has announced that its Setel e-payment solution can now be used to do more than paying for fuel purchases, with the addition of a Deliver2Me feature as well as in-store cashless payment expanding the workings of the Setel Wallet.

With Deliver2Me, Setel users will be able to purchase selected items from participating Kedai Mesra outlets, which will be promptly delivered directly to their vehicle while they are refuelling. Targeting those on-the-go, Deliver2Me offers a convenient way for users to shop without having to wander off from the vicinity of their vehicle.

Those who prefer the full shopping experience can utilise the cashless payment route – the new feature in the app provides the option to pay for items in Kedai Mesra with the e-wallet, minimising physical contact. Customers will not only be able to earn Mesra points, but also perform Mesra points redemption directly through the app.

The company says that Deliver2Me is now available at six participating Petronas stations in the Klang Valley and will progressively roll out to all Setel-enabled stations nationwide starting in the first quarter of next year. As for cashless payment, this can be accomplished at 800 participating Kedai Mesra outlets.

Setel’s reach has also been expanded since the beginning of the year. It is now available at over 900 Petronas stations nationwide, up from the 700 plus stations announced in February.

Petronas Setel now nationwide, at over 700 stations

Having launched Setel in 2018, Petronas has now expanded its cashless payment service across the country. Designed to eradicate customer pain points during refuelling, Setel is now available at over 700 Petronas stations nationwide, and the national fuel retailer says it expects to rapidly expand the service over the next few weeks.

“As of January 2020, Setel recorded over three million transactions and has garnered positive responses from our customers in the Klang Valley. We are now ready to offer Setel nationwide and will be introducing exciting new features in the coming months,” said Setel CEO Iskandar Ezzahuddin, who teased some of those features during the launch event, including in-car integration, family accounts and the ability to order items from Kedai Mesra and other outlets at the station.

Setel integrates fuel payments, loyalty, retail and e-commerce in one platform, and the company recently added Mesra points fuel redemption directly through the smartphone app. Setel users will also be able to vote for their favourite songs and artists for the upcoming 34th Anugerah Juara Lagu, right from the app; 100 of those voters will also win fuel vouchers worth RM1,000 each.

Petronas Dagangan managing director and CEO Azrul Osman Rani said, “At Petronas, we strive to be agile and innovative in meeting consumers’ changing needs. In addition to a wider reach, the nationwide expansion is also us pushing our boundaries in delivering meaningful value to our customers.

“The current features of Setel is just the beginning. Anchored on a seamless and frictionless experience, we will be providing the right solutions and partnerships to enrich the customer journey beyond refuelling.”

Setel is available for free on iOS and Android devices, via the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

  • Petronas introduces Setel e-wallet service – cashless payments and loyalty programme in one app

Petronas introduces Setel e-wallet service – cashless payments and loyalty programme in one app

It seems that fuel retailers are going big on cashless payments, as Petronas is also throwing its hat into the ring with its Setel e-wallet app, introduced at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS).

Available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, the service can currently be used at more than 40 stations across the Klang Valley, with the number set to rise to 600 by June 2019. The company expects a nationwide expansion to be complete by the end of next year.

Unlike Petron’s cashless service, which works using WeChat Pay, Setel is Petronas’ own system, designed to be integrated directly to the fuel pumps – said to be the first in Southeast Asia. The app enables customers to purchase fuel in just a few taps, directly in the comfort of their cars, and starting January next year it will also allow users to purchase items at Mesra stores. It also integrates the Kad Mesra loyalty programme.

“Pumping fuel shouldn’t be a chore. Currently, the payment process involves walking to cashier, waiting in line, a RM200 hold on your cards, and having to use a separate card to earn loyalty points,” said Setel boss Iskandar Ezzahuddin. “Setel eradicates these pain points and integrates payment and loyalty benefits in a seamless, frictionless experience. At Setel, we settle for you!”

Petronas Dagangan managing director and CEO Datuk Sri Syed Zainal Syed Mohd Tahir said, “Petronas has been focusing on creating a new customer experience in our retail business by leveraging on the power of digital. Setel enables a seamless end-to-end experience that focuses on providing convenient and ease for fuel purchases at our customers’ fingertips. We are proud to be the first to offer this service in Malaysia.”
