New Saga replacement Proton BLM sighted with minimal disguise on the road!

Proton BLM Undisguised

Now this is something really really strange. The upcoming replacement for the Proton Saga codenamed the Proton BLM has been spotted on the road, without any camouflage, and registered! Yes, the car had a proper number plate instead of a trade plate, but I’ve censored it off these photos. If you notice, there’s even a road tax sticker on the windscreen. The car only had its Proton badges removed/covered up, but other than that it shows pretty much the full details of the car.

The Proton BLM looks rather decent, and the rear will remind people of the outgoing Mercedes Benz W203 C-Class. Proton has taken the conservative route to the BLM’s styling as it has to have a huge mass appeal, and being safe is always a good idea when it comes to designing a car for volume sales, just look at Toyota’s design language. There are no oddities like the step-up window line of the Savvy, or the bling turbine wheels of the Satria Neo.

It looks like a nice, compact and anonymous-looking small B-segment sedan, with a boot that looks like it could store an estimated 400 to 450 litres of luggage. If Proton continues its new philosophy of designing cars for the consumers, expect nifty conveniences such as hinges that do not intrude into boot space, a decent amount of interior storage space, and a frugal 1.3 litre engine with both manual and automatic gearboxes.

The interior design should take cues from the current Proton Saga, which has had its interior updated with the latest facelift. Expect the interior to be a sensible one, something more Persona than Satria Neo – this means no crazy bright blue lights to light up your meter panel unlike the current Saga interior.

The word through the grapevines is that Proton is looking to a launch date sometime in the first half of January 2008. I cannot wait to see the old Proton Saga finally replaced! Not sure what the name is, but Proton might decide to keep the Proton Saga name for continuity, just like how it kept the Persona name for its new Wira replacement, as Persona was the Wira’s export name.

Nice exterior, I think this would be a competitive model between Perodua MyVi and Perodua Viva. Any estimation about the price? Looking forward for this model.

Hey. This looks kinda good to me. Kinda classy even (for its class). Should be good enough to satisfy a lot of people out there. This is what Proton should do for all of its models. Keep its styling decent and practical to attract the majority of the buyer. Then come out with a spruced up versions (e.g. GTi, SE, GT, etc ) to satisfy the racer boy niche. Heck, with the economic of scale that they are able to achieve by having more sales, they can knocked themself out and get a bit more crazier on their design for the special versions!

IMHO, they should retain the Saga’s name. This will show how far they come since 1984. The car’s heritage and lineage should be retained. At least, the grill still looks similar to the current Saga Iswara ;P

Just hope that this model’s interiors, specs and pricing wont disappoints. This could probably be my first Proton (or at least my wife’s). LOL

I think this is a nice car.
For the design can see improvement from Savvy.
Heard the price is below RM40k rite. Then really can beat the Perodua market.
Seriously i think Viva and MyVi is too pricey already.

Glad to see Proton coming to terms with practicality and not just flashy products. This should provide healthy competition and stimulate better automobile growth in the lower RM50, 000 car segment and offer the trim level we should have been entitled to years ago.

I wish they strongly consider safety feature to be included as standard package – ABS with EBD at least. I just remember during last Hari Raya holiday, 4 proton cars skid at PLUS highway near Senawang, and ended up in the drain. ” Safety First and Profit later “

Well, it sure look good… But having a merc like butt will it be sue by merc later?

Anyway if got VIM sure it will be better then the normal CamTakPro. Anyway what i found out is that they will have 2 air-bags & ABS for high spec, while medium and low line will be almost same wif Persona.

Now we can only wait for the price. For what i found out the price may not be cheaper then savvy, is like between Persona & savvy.

I can vouch that it is possible to drive this car at 150km/h with a passenger on the highway. Too bad it wont have AMT on this one. Was hoping Proton would keep that as an option for the Neo. Well at least something that is less bone jarring as the current one.

Nice appearance. Why BL sell at 29k but not 25k? Why ML sell at 35k but not 30k? Why must pay more but not less? Demand fixed the price or profit fixed the price? It seems like only follow market price regardless the cost.

I can’t believe so many people actually LIKE this atrocity. It’s like a really malformed Hyundai Accent. It looks really horrible. If enough people in Malaysia like it, then fine it might sell in Malaysia, but this really doesn’t stand a chance in markets like the UK where Proton has a bad reputation anyway and is going backwards. Something looking like this can only accelerate that trend.

It definately fits into many of the low & middle income group. Good job Proton, this is what you guys should be doing all along, provide value for money car for the raykat, instead of ripping us off with 25year old car, no matter how cheap it is.

It’s a nice car and this is what consumer need. Our Proton should realise this earlier but late better than never occur.
There was source said this model designed by korean’s LG design studio so I can see some Kia or Hyundai taste there especially the front looks like Optra5 or old Accent….
The interior still can’t see yet so hopefully not so plastic feel like the recent Savvy.
If the price for low line model cost slightly more than rm30k, we can see a strong fight between Proton & Perodua.

Only for 1.3L? Why no 1.5?
Exterior i think it is ok. I prefer the rear portion, it looks like mercedes benz (rear light).
But the front is not very decent especially on the side view, maybe if added with a bit aerodynamik curvature….”facelift” the front bonnet. Maybe just wait to see the actual model next year.
I hope the interior will be “SOLID” + “STYLISH” + “EXCITING”.
Anyway…. i will not consider Proton as my first choice….. because i have had bad experience in my WIRA 1.5A before….bad quality…hmmm… just cannot take any more risk….it will be my very last choice.

The Real Proton Saga BLM Pictures at website.. google proton BLM…

Urm… that was the oldest pic of BLM on the net dude..in fact, it was not a real car! Just a clay model. The real BLM is the one that you are looking at Paultan’s now….

Anyway, went to their showroom yesterday. I was intended to have a test drive a Neo, but they were unable to provide one since they don’t do a test drive on weekend (wtf?)

Anyway, the staff was kind of enough to enlighten me with some info bout the BLM and they even showed me some fresh photos of that car (those pictures were ‘supplied’ from proton not from net one)

Overall what I can say is, the car looks okay to me. Too bad, they don’t have any pic of the interior. But from I’ve been told, the interior is ‘practical’ and spacious with generous headroom and legroom!

The launch date as been informed by other people here is correct. Expect date is mid of Jan. The price also correct but I’d rather wait until the official numbers are out….

For the time being, I just wait and see. If everything looks alright I might get myself one…it is a better buy in anyway than the overpriced VIVA. Perodua should take note on this matter and don’t be so greedy. Your big brother has learned their lesson well. Hope it will stays that way. Good job Proton!

It should do pretty well for itself if it can hit the targeted 30 -35k price.

Not a big fan of converted hatchbacks….same goes to the city/vios/latio/sx4.

Competition in the market is always good for consumers. This should steal some of Perodua’s thunder.

As for other maques, it doubt it will make a dent in thier sales. The BLM is in a different price category alltogether.

looks good, the price is good too BUT proton never had a problem with these two things, i personally like the Looks of Gen 2, being a Proton owner now it is always been the finish that disappoints, never much the engineering of the product. proton needs to buck up on its quality control and it can be a success…

yup… the one white is the clear photos of BLM so far… sorry, I didn’t see the latest photos… just hope in few days or so we will get to see some interior pic as well…

I still wonder why the other day, when they showed me some photos of the BLM (white color also but different angles), they said they don’t have interior pic with them… and when I asked about how’s the interior looks like, he gave this puzzled look and said, “dia punya interior design ikut cita rasa masing-masing” (basically what he tried to say is, some might like it, some might not – aka savvy interior fiasco? LOL!)

Hope I was wrong and can’t hardly wait till this baby finally comes out!

    Cheers

This BLM is just a normal styling (MyVi much more advance-nearly 4 year old car). Even though price and quality is 1st factor, styling is also big factor to attract buyer!

So what is it going to be? Either the width here is incorrect, or it cant be te exact dashboard as Savvy. Or manybe same dasboard as Savve but the doors are extra fat, and means that the interior width is smaller than current iswara.

Styling is a very subjective. Like saying MyVi is “much more advanced”, but to me it’s just normal. Viva is not exactly appealing either. Generally, most ppl that have commented that the BLM’s styling is nice and decent. You don’t expect a BMW kind of styling for a model at this price range anyway right?

I dont think styling effect the price. It will be more or less the same…all new tooling!. Sometimes styling does not include advance technology…it just outer shell. You still can have BMW styling with BLM interior or even engine as well.

You’re right, but think of it this way. If the styling for this price range going to be really really advanced, then the styling for the top-end model have to be at least many times as advanced or else, the perception of the top-end styling will seem cheap. Thus it makes the higher end model harder to style.

i dont think it’s possible to design a small sedan that would look proportionate and “not boxy”. It’s a limitation of the size of human beings that dictates how much legroom/headroom there must be. And the size of the cars cannot be increased.

The BMWs mentioned are all much bigger cars compared to this budget car. Bigger cars are easy to design such that they look proportionate. Eg. The vios ends up looking like a dugong (ok, it’s subjective so pls dont flame me), while the same styling cues on the Aurion looks sweet…

This is what WE (Malaysians) wanted to see…IMPROVEMENTS!!! Even if it’s small in details but there are NEW bits and parts in every product they produced. This shows that they are FINALLY listening to the MARKET, and not just sales charts…I dunno about people who LOATHE P1, but to me THIS is the way P1 should go. Let them say it looks like a KIA or a Hyundai or even a Mahindra; like those marques were really ORIGINAL from the get go :p. ( I despised Korean cars…They’re the biggest cheat of them ALL).Can’t wait for the launch, though…I want to see how FAR P1 have gone with this new model…

Now the world is flat, NAP is no longer relevant to stimulate our car industry. Indeed it is actually a tool for cronies and AP king to flourish.

At least Proton now demonstrate that even they are not the world class player. At least it don’t give shit product to the consumer with the launch of this BLM. BLM is a “tectonic shift” from crap-triotic talk to consumer oriented product.

recantly a spotted this car nearby KLCC for commercial shooting. ascotted by police and it can run very fast. the exterior is not bad..better than what we saw in the recent post. well done…when will launch? i think most probably before chinese new year..hehe

The exterior can always be modified at a later time (future facelifts, revisions, at the hands of third party car parts shops or even itchy hands of modifiers such as myself) but the interior and it’s final spec sheet will tell the whole story.

I’m not exactly a fan of the Savvy’s interior but since this is a car for the masses, one should not be too picky about it. Build quality and Q.C are what I’m most interested in. That will determine if Proton takes us consumers seriously. If so, then bravo Proton but if not, I hope they close up shop and learn from the industry’s big boys before attempting car manufacturing again.

The front and rear design of this BLM looks decent. The rear resembles the Skoda Octavia – nice and decent. However when viewing it from the side, it kinda looks disproportionate. Pricing wise…well it’s quite reasonable.

Will I get one ? Well…just hope that the Campro 1.3 doesn’t disappoint us. I drove the Gen 2 1.3A and it was bloody sluggish and a fuel guzzler.

i like the exterior design of the new saga..interior wise, i prefer savvy’s dashboard and center console design compared to other proton models(minus the yellow odometer)..more to european style ..and not lotus wannabe..

But it’s family car so it’s ok to look demure. If your equipped with ABD,EBD,BA,VSA and etc, if you drive like hell you will end up in a COFFIN!

Example is the new SL 350 totally crashed at Jalan Tun Razak middle this year.Driver is dead.

–malaysian taste or should i say asian taste is different. just like rover, ford, renault can’t stand a chance to compete with other japanese makes. mate, one man’s meat, another man’s poison. u don’t know this? hahaha.

I’m gonna buy it & put it on my front gate permanently (glue the tyre) lower down the window a bit, so the postman can slide in my letters, bills, postcard and easily he can open the door or the boot so that he can insert the bigger, heavier parcell & at the night i can simply lock my post box only from my house using a remote so that nobody is gonna have a chance to steal any of my letters….BRILLIANT!!!!

Even without govt protection, the proton BLM would still be cheaper by at least RM15k as the vios/city would cost about RM55k (for teh most basic version).

–u might be right that the price maybe cost about rm55k, if without NAP. but then we can also look at those most consumer willing or able to spend on cars nowadays. best selling car myvi is about rm50k, somemore is a small b-segment car or vios is selling better than waja. it might affect the whole market sales if the nap don’t exist. that’s reason why nap still exist, eventhough proton still hv the cheapest car on the market. with NAP or without NAP, quality and low maintenance is more important. true?

its a design to maximise cabin space on smaller car,

same practice goes to aveo sedan, polo sedan, some smaller honda sedan,
those to have that kind of propotion, anyway still this blm doesnt looks too bad,

can never expect the beauty of a bigger car design like waja or persona because the size, it can be designed to have a nicely propotioned body,

or still can make beauty or sporty can be acheived but a little bit sacrifice of certain aspect (but within an acceptable measure) like neo or gen2 , hence it is solid with ‘fast’ look,

but i belive this car will look nice for it purpose,

i think we should wait to see it on the road personally. IMO the tiida/latio looks terrible in pictures but in real life looks decent.

It seems proton is gonna be marketing a budget sedan. Under RM30k OTR for a car with this dimensions and displacement is very reasonable by any standard. It’s a sedan – not a micro car like the QQ or 1lakh Tata.

I dont think it would be as much of a car as it’s more pricier* rivals, but it will provide a viable alternative to buying a Kancil for families with about RM30k to spend on a car.

If proton can pull this off with decent bulid and QC. I think it has a winner. Considering this car hasnt been released, this blog post alone has generated more than 150 replies.

*pricier even without NAP. includes the vios/city (RM55k+), jazz, latio/tiida.

BMpower….you need to look at other international markets. particulalrly free ones. toyota, honda will fight for market share through price wars.

it is more likely that proton set a very lousy standard being lousy but expensive to buy and maintain. and therefore toyota or honda or whoever else can price themselves at thier current rate since they have no need to engage in intensive price wars. since all the bargain hunters will head for proton. (more like being forced). in other markets, toyota and honda do and provide budget entry cars. the jazz or yaris are a few examples for students or budget minded people. competition at the corolla level and yaris level is intense therefore lowering the price for all consumers
    .

in malaysia there is no need to have price wars since they(budget cars like jazz and yaris) are already taxed out of the equation (out of range of bargain hunters and into a higher market segment where competition is not so intense). therefore proton has the power to set thier price as well as thier standard of a bread and butter car.

the standard for bread and butter cars should be set at the corolla level where most of the competition is.

sure u might get some chinese or indian cars arriving. but almost everyone will avoid it like the ebola virus for 20 years. so it is irrelevent in the near future.

tiida is so ugly that it is a certain failure.

Well.. bigfish dont had to asnwer this question.. he is already toyota salesmen..
    —————-
I am not wasting my time on this Protonomics argument!
    +++++++++

So now.. wth are you think you are to label people? that one protonomic, that one blind basher, that one too much patriotic?..

    What if :
BigFish = You’re Toyotaics, Japanamics, BigHeadednomics?
Do you like to be called like that? Do you?..

Deal…., in the past years ago.. you can bash everything about proton.. but not laterly. I saw too many improvement they do.. They deserved it. I was try to be fair in my opinion.. but when there’s too much bashers.. i turn to be bit patriotic (or what ever you wanted to say)..

AT LEAST.. PROTON ITSELF HAS MADE/PROTECT BILLION RM (since 20 years ago) NOT GONE TO THE JAPAN/OTHER COUNTRY ‘JUST LIKE THAT’.

It keep or saving a bit for our country fundamental to going strong in the way of some people might not see it.. but it does!. Not for the selfish those begging for cheap car, cheap car..

I repeat.. IF you are the Toyota CEO,
“Do you will reduce all your car price because proton and NAP is no more? Do You? ”

    topgunthang.
Thanks.. that was good from another view..
as bread and butter itself had different brand too ..

if it was proton in 90’s. i can’t agree more with you.
but in current situation, for me.. proton was in good and right direction.

im not only talking ‘what is the best sport car i can own.’ but it was about…
how much later proton can bring money from foreign country to malaysia (as toyota, honda etc brought to japan). Rich country, good economy county = good for their people/citizen.. Poor country? = well.. judge on your own-lah

anyway.. that was a history(rumors?) about Japan WW2 General quote :
“If we(japan) can’t conquerer Asia in 100 days, we will conquer it in 100 years”. – World War 2 vs a masterplan beyond imagination!

Yes.. Japan is great.. all over the world they can get the money.. Sony, Panasonic etc etc .. ahh.. to many to list… Well.. they do success for now…

I read this article in this morning @ Utusan Malaysia..

    – they are show the claw..

Under free market in auto sector, no one manufacturer can monopoly the market. Or they can form “cartel” like steel industry to “fix” the price by create superficial shortage.

So, do you get the free economy realistic assumption? Only NAP can lead the auto market to behave as what you said. Enough is being said, Mr. Protonomics!

Actually the car high is “OK” to acommodate taller guy, unlike Gen-2 with low roof line, especially backseat. To make smaller car with “bigger” interior but “smaller” external dimension, not only this BLM has “weird” look, but as someone said, Vios like kueh bahulu and City like Cloth Iron. That is the constraint encounter by designer in coming out with small size sedan car.

Brother Bigfish, I think it is silly to fight whether Honda, Toyota is better than Proton. Toyota and Honda are in fact better brands and product than Proton but one don’t need to be ego over this fact. This car will not detriment the sales of the new Vios, so don’t you worry brother. You better worry about Latio.

It is better to discuss whether this car will outsell Myvi and Viva.

I wonder what Syed Hafiz of Perodua is doing now to counter the launch of this new car. 1.5 Myvi perhaps? a 24K 660cc Viva perhaps? Maybe a new Kembara? Or a 7 seater MPV?

He must be thinking if he ever can beat Syed Zainal, the man who spearheaded the Myvi project (which was a major success), and the same man who will detriment Perodua cars sales under his guidance. So what is his achievement at Perodua?

So i had no doubt if enough brave one can push harder to 220kmh.. yess.. surely you need a good road too..

Japanese car quality is no doubt better than proton. If there is anyone disagree then he may not understand what is the meaning of QUALITY. You cannot mix quality with performance, it is different aspect.

My Gen2 have few quality problem at door, exhaust and noisy sound but I satisfy with its performance. The car was still stable when I drive at 190km/h and it still can be faster (Berhati-hati di jalan raya) and I never modify my car. Honestly I buy it because of low down payment and I can’t afford to pay high d/p for other brand car.

No one can force you to buy their car it is either you afford or not.

If you are buying a 1300cc car please do not have big hope for the performance (unless you modify it).
If you are buying a proton car, please do not have big hope for the quality (unless you are lucky).
If you are buying a Proton Saga, please do not have big hope of BOTH (unless there is miracle).

Please do not critic people with rude word, do you happy when people attacking youlike this? This is not a place for you to revenge or expressing your rude mind. Please go to other website.

if Jazz cheaper than Myvi, people will still buying Myvi, but of course buyers will reduce….. and for the same amount of money, u can get plenty of used cars in good condition…….do u buy City just because u cant afford Jazz? or do u buy Vios just because u cant afford Yaris?

will u buy a Ferrari if its cheaper than a Porsche when u can actually afford both at the same time?

    don’t like it, then DON’T buy….. understand?

no one is forcing anyone to buy Proton or Perodua……

What is the relationship between don’t like a car and migration? People migrate for economic or otehr reason, but to migrate just because of don’t like car, then it is the most oxymoron thing.

don’t like it, then DON”T buy, DON’T try, DON’T see, just dig out your eyeballs, very simple…..

if you’re a Malaysian, then just act like one…….

not happy? migrate lah, no big deal…….

–hahaha, driving down the hill of course can reach higher speed. even an old nissan sunny 130y carb engine can reach more than 180km/h.

i believe u have dig out many times of ur eyeball, because sure there’s lots of things u don’t like to see. hahahaha……

what the hell of migrating if not happy? our former prime minister mentioned before lots of smart people is leaving the country. somemore u asked people to leave, then left those bunch of idiot people behind? maybe u r the one. disgracing the malaysian.

just hate people talking about migrating, spoiling the fun of automotives.

Where is your source? Mind to quote or paste the url? .
If this car equipt with VIM for better fc, i think that was good.
Cheap car is suitable for taxi in malaysia.. i think many taxi will tradein for this new BLM. Perhaps.. Proton can do deal with all taxis company in klang valley.
Public transport not paying any tax duty.
    —-

    Technical wise.
Carburetor in powerful than fuel injection (unless the ecu got better calculation). As known , carburetor is thirsty . The more faster/aggresive you drive, means more and faster fuel s*cked. But the tech is going on..
Anyway.. Fuel Injection at the first place is for fuel saving.

but according to malaysia goverment rules, all taxis must at least 1500cc and above. so u won’t see proton 1.3 taxi on the road. either they are proton iswara 1.5, nissan sentral 1.6 or waja 1.6. now the taxi companies are encouraged to change their model to persona because cheaper than waja.

    ============================================

The high price, or _percieved_ high price, is _one_ of the reasons why people migrate. the core reasons for migration is better pay and job availability overseas. proton makes reasonably priced, albeit lower tech, cars. But i guess if you worked overseas in a first world country, any car, will be three times more affordable than in malaysia due to the higher salary to begin with.

It’s best to ignore personal attacks. Responding will start a flame war.

Are we still discussing the thread’s topics or are we trying to show off one’s ‘intelligence’ by lowering others?

Come on guys… we are all adults here.Be responsible with your posting

If you are not sure of your source of data/info,better make sure u post it in that manner.Don’t simply post it as a statement. You are inviting people to ‘tembak’ you

Why lower yourself by calling other monkeys, oxymoron etc..etc? We are all here for info and once a while, post some constructive comments be it a negative or positive ones. One should not think themselves as better than others

    Rasicm,politics,personal attacks – you’re out!You are not wanted here!

Max88 – I don’t think you appreciate what u have here in Malaysia.Sure we have problems that needs to be ironed out but if you are so disgusted, migration is an option. Your opinion burns out more people than good.Smart-ass is not wanted here

BigFish – Your comments are welcome here eventhough sometimes can be quite pedas and spot on but that is what it should be.Just let us tone down the personal attacks shall we?It goes to others

We are living in a multicultural society here in Malaysia and there will be be some idiot trying to disrupt the harmony by mouthing extreme opinions and thought without thinking of others.I’m tired of all these….. I don’t want 1969 to occurs again!

My personal opinion on BLM :

It’s decent and simple and for the price range of RM29k – below RM40k,it’s a good bargain.Let’s wait to see the quality issues

Beauty is subjective.I might like it but you don’t.Fine.I can live with it. No problemo.

The car design lately has become saturated and most of the time, new cars will have the tendency to have some ques from other cars. That is normal. To have an extra ordinary design, well that is the job for the big players since they have the money and market to do it.Proton?I don’t think they have enough market volume to justify the cost.I believe and sure Proton have talented engineers to produce top class cars but cost and market volume plays the bigger constraint

RM29k also too expensive ka?Haiya….bikin kereta sindiri maa…

Auto industries is the most lowest return of profits compared to the cost compared to other industries

If one needs praise for the effort,I’ll be glad to give it.If it needs critical comments,I won’t hold anything back.As long as it progresses,it’s good enough for me

    Hi all
    1st Time Posting here,
I have some question, i think some people thought that they are anyhow force to buy P1 or P2 car due to Our G done something with NAP. I would like to ask, when u decide to buy a proton car, what do you expect from it? do you expect it to as good as the others? When you don have budget to buy a better car should you waste money on buying proton or perodua?money is yours, there is always a choice to make. And This model isnt even officially released yet, don comment so early. People have different taste, people might take new vios as dogong or latio as something and this BLM is awkward. but thats their problem and shouldn’t posting here. Insulting,Politics, and Flaming is unacceptable in place like this. Its no use to insult people if they simply don like this Car. People have different taste but must learn to respect the differences.
    Peace.-_-V

Niv, “Tasteless like cheap and plain mineral water” aka BLM is not necessary no big demand. And “Tasty like expensive Brandy” aka Merc is not necessary there is big demand for it for the reason best known to those who make the decision which one to consume.

But to distort the equation of supply and demand under free market by NAP is not good.

BLM pricing wise in the range of RM 30K to RM 40K, it is “self regulatory” pricing in response to dog-eat-dog auto market that shift from protective to open market. At least P1 wake up now with Persona and upcoming BLM, not like “Satria Neo (2 door) and Savvy buat syiok-syiok sendiri”.

This above statement is “half water tank” applicable. When there is in conjunction with 50 year merdeka sales celebration for stone age Saga at RM 26,999.00. Why there is no migration or those oversea Malaysian make a beeline to return to our country?

Why don’t migrate to remote Papau New Guinea or Africa to joint the jungle tribe that they don’t use monies. They survive on everything that is free in their environment – barter trade? Why go to the Down South?

If your stetement is applicable, the selling of BLM at RM 30K to RM 40K will attract a lot of migration to Malaysia?

    2. BLM creation not only replace Saga, but in response to Savvy “failured” (add butt).
    3. Next improvement is in response to Satria Neo “failured” by add butt, elongate the body to add to more door?
    4. So alll new product, MPV slate for launch iin 2009. Hope Proton don’t utilize Mits Townbox chassis.

    BigFish
I understand what u said, but I mean is When people have a 30-40k budget, they always have a choice on car models, since there is 2nd hand car available in malaysia. for some people 30-50k is like small amount. but its definately quite big for me. need to pay installment for 5 or 9 years. need see budget and also everything going up including petrol. For me I will wait and see…I wont simply buy a car because it’s 30k. If the car doesnt meet my requirement i rather don buy. I rather keep the money for better car.
that what I’m doing now. If BLM released and doesnt look good. then Thats it.
I might just go get a 2nd hand a31 nissan cefiro.
G will always want money from us. if NAP cancelled off, i think another ABC or DCE will come up. mayb they raise road tax or even reduce subsi’ on petrols.
We can’t ran off from any tax in this country. If car cheap mayb petrol expensive. then i rather car expensive.
    hehe”

    Look at this section: –

    http://www.proton.com/about_proton/facts_figures/car_sales.php

Now the “Sleeping IT Department” already wake up and make correction to sales figure for Saga (previously shown “2” only).

Anyway total sales up to Sept 07 is 82,443 units. Average of 9K ++ unit a month. Based on this projection, sales shall be around 110K units by end of Dec 07. That means the overall yearly sales for 2007 is expected not much different from 2006 sales figure at 115,674 units.

If this is the case, then this is the likely scenario (look and compare at the sale figure for respective model for year 2006/07): –

    1. The Persona & Saga merdeka sales increase in tandem with decrease for sales for Gen-2, Wira, Waja and Savvy. Previous post also mentioned MyVi sales is “as good as usual”.

    2. The launch of BLM shall replace existing Saga sales figure and most likely “eat into” older models as shown in item (1) above, it may even can affect the sales of Persona!

Overall, do BLM will increase the total sales for Proton? Time will be the witness?

Don’t know whether Proton new model(s) will just fight with the older models or turnaround the company fortune?

I sincerely think the addition of Persona and up-coming BLM is not about the response to the “failed” neo and savvy but it is purely trying to recapture the focus Proton has lost for the past years. Before,Proton cars are build and sold based on what they want public to believe. Now they have started to realize that is a crappy way to sell cars.Consumers now are better armed with knowledge

I believe in Malaysia, price and looks to be the-factor.Look at how Myvi and Savvy faired.Although it was not intended to be against each other, laymen will see it that way.Myvi tops due to its more modern and better styling eventhough it is slightly expensive than Savvy and lousy vehicle dynamics BUT as Savvy came out with the Savvy lite, demands for it started to climb up due to lower price. So price and looks is the main priority but each other cannot claim to be the better factor. It depends on what you want at that particular time of buying

Sincerely and guts feeling,I think BLM will sell well PROVIDED no quality issues. Be in mind that this car is to replace old Saga so comparison must be fair and just.

hello, i’m new here. i’m getting my first car but i don’t know why it’s taking me like forever to decide on which car to buy. my budget is less than 40k, definitely not the new myvi cos it’s too expensive. and i want a low fuel consumption car since the G’s gonna raise the price sooner or later.. i also want a car with safety features like seatbelts at the back or airbags. but i can settle for 2nd hand myvi. i also like this new proton car cos it’s around my budget and i think its a good car. but good thing about perodua is, maintenance is still lower than the protons.
so, any of u thinking of selling ur myvi and get this new proton car, let me know ok? hehehe.. do u think the perodua is gonna give more discounts next year after the release of this BLM ? any perodua ppl here??

but nway, i’ve been reading all the comments for these past few days. actually i’m getting my first car but its taking me like forever to decide on which car to buy. my budget is less than 40k and definitely not the myvi. i also want the low fuel consumption car sinc the G’s gonna raise the fuel price sooner or later. i also want a safe car that has seatbelts at the back and the airbags. but i think car with airbags must be too pricey for me :) i kina like this BLM car. but it’s 1.3 campro and its proton which means servicing and maintaining this car would be more expensive than the perodua cars. do u think the perodua is gonna give mega great discounts next year on their cars after the release of this BLM ? anybody from perodua here?? i think i can settle for 2nd hand myvi. any of u thinking of selling their myvi and get this new BLM ?? pls let me know ok? cheers !!

Wah so many blind defenders carry out personal attack!
What is the relationship between don’t like a car and migration? People migrate for economic or otehr reason, but to migrate just because of don’t like car, then it is the most oxymoron thing.

    ezralimm said,

The high price, or _percieved_ high price, is _one_ of the reasons why people migrate. the core reasons for migration is better pay and job availability overseas. proton makes reasonably priced, albeit lower tech, cars. But i guess if you worked overseas in a first world country, any car, will be three times more affordable than in malaysia due to the higher salary to begin with.

It’s best to ignore personal attacks. Responding will start a flame war.

If your stetement is applicable, the selling of BLM at RM 30K to RM 40K will attract a lot of migration to Malaysia?

cheap price low quality issue acceptable BUT

expensive price and low quality issue wth!!!!????

some people so called Malaysian never learn to support our local cars..always proud with Kiichiro car…

Proton sell cheap cars for low-mid budget family or as their 1st car…dont expect people to buy Kiichiro car then have to face with expensive spare parts..

Don’t be sellfish by thinking u got money and can show off with expensive..think about low budget people laa…

REMEMBER THAT KIICHIRO CAR CAN NEVER CHALLENGE PROTON PRICE!

Since it share platform with sedan with savvy… would it be tough like savvy… and the price is definitly yummy… just hope the quality not “hangat hangat tahi ayam” la… but nothing to hope from a cheap car…

if this priced less then 39K will kill viva, kancil… but still unknown for Myvi

Is the BLM an in-house design or, as commented earlier in this thread, designed by LG? Just curious

Anyway, from the images the BLM looks tidy and its design, although not cutting edge, would do well to stand up against the current crop of new cars entering M’sia.

Another advantage going for the BLM is that it will fill the 30 – 40k small sedan segment void held by the fossilised saga for more than two decades.

Hope the interior and build quality don’t disappoint.

I really agree with some stating the BLM looking like a deformed last 2 generation hyundai accent, while its rear looked like some China car maker trying to copy c-class (looks more similar with small tyres as proposing China car styling).

Its a good move that Proton finally replace their decades old model. The current Saga Iswara is 2 decades old but the BLM looks like a decade old already! The rear and side profiles are acceptable but the front is simply dated.

However and unfortunately, I am looking forward to get this car too when I come out work soon for the price. Myvi is still way better than blm, satria neo, savvy and gen2.

don’t understand why needed to argue about it. indeed this car joint effort, designed with korean counterpart. hyundai, lg. this car looks like vios front, or chevrolet aveo notchback. and to highlighted it also the tail light or the design of the boot is definitely not copying c-class, because ford mondeo had the design more earlier than c-class during early 90’s. and looks more smoother than c-class. even older model hyundai sonata have similar design.
interior quite spacious. please look at the real car and feel it. the size is much bigger than savvy even don’t include the boot space. side by side is as big as vios, city or accent. is quite a decent car and looks better than persona to me. that’s why i didn’t buy persona i guess.
afterall this blm is one of the cheapest car in malaysian market, can’t complain much. just that unable to test drive it last few weeks. i believe, every car has its own market share. perodua or proton in malaysian still can sell. just like toyota, honda or nissan. when u love cars price is not really a matters, bcos u will work hard for it, i always believe so. i might be going to buy this blm as my 3rd or weekend car.

Hopefully this BLM will be named after the old SAGA… SAGA, or SAGA.2. hehehe. At least the name will show some legacy or even the evolution on proton models. It quite amusing when the PERSONA didn’t use the name GEN.2, eventhough it can be easily recognised as a sedan GEN.2

Maybe Proton is not aware about this matter. But it surely important having some legacy in their cars line-up. Something to be proud of.

The interior is still a mystery. No more GEN.2 look-a-like dashboard PLEASE!!!

Actually…. to all the Japanese car user. If financially your stable and can pay your monthly loans pls go ahead, but for most people out there 5 years loan at RM 650 plus and you can get a BLM Auto, that very affortable. You don’t look really good if that Japanese car of yours are bought with your parents money, makes you looks puny comparable to hard earn money. If i continue this conversation it will take years to actually analyse you, your personality and the very being you who is born in this world. Yes each had their own level of income and spending powers. Pls be nice to each and everyone at that level of commitments and level. If you are super rich and drive a Ferrari I would think you will not be ever seeing this BLM picture or even reading Mr. Paul blog, cos time is money for you, you only wanted the best, nothing less!
