New Mazda Fighter Spyshots

Shortly after the new Ford Ranger TDCi arrived on Malaysian shores, this lightly camouflaged new generation Mazda Fighter sharing the same underpinings as the new Ranger TDCi was spotted making rounds around Sri Hartamas near EON Bank. Thanks to Derrick Tew for sending in these photos. It looks pretty much like the new Ford Ranger TDCi except for changes on the front grille, headlamps, bumper, and other changes around the outside and inside – mostly aesthetics. We will have to wait until the launch to find out the full specs and differences, or the lack of any for that matter.

The new Mazda Fighter will likely be powered by the same class-leading 2.5 litre TDCi intercooled turbodiesel engine as the Ranger TDCi, making 141bhp/143PS at 3500rpm and 330Nm at 1800rpm. Look at 3 more spyshots after the jump, as well as undisguised product photos of the new Mazda Fighter sourced from Mazda Thailand.

I visited Ford showroom few day ago, the back seat of Ford Ranger is still "vertical" a bit and not as spacious as Toyota Hilux. I am in the opinion Toyota still offer better products with sedan car cabin feel!

just the same meat & bones with a little more spices!

IMHO, both Ranger/Fighter are a truck with big head and small rear! nowadays all trucks comes with tiny wheels! damn pathetic! the overall proportion is quite ackward…. feel not that macho anymore! sigh!

might be marketed as a more "upmarket" alternative to Ranger, i think… could even have less HP so as to make it more economical, no?

    To tHe CuLpRit:

Nope, the Fighter will be using the same exact engine as the Ranger. No de-tuning or up-tuning whatsoever.

Kinda expected from Mazda-Ford relationship. When the new Escape is launched, their Mazda Tribute will follow too.

Hilux is doing pretty well as current being marketed as an urban jungle with family car appeal. I don't see the practicality of it. Pickups are meant for heavy duty estate off road jobs. On spec sheet, Hilux 2.5L diesel is a far cry from the likes of Frontier, Ranger and Triton.

Naa… In the pickup market.. Nissan frontier is still the best in term of HP look at the UK based frontier=Navara.. if i not mistaken 2.5L turbo diesel made 171 hp?

    http://www.nissan.co.uk/home/vehicles/4×4/D40/per…

But for hard use or heavy duty use, ford/Mazda still win the day.. Dont believe? ask the timber company ppl or construction worker and see… Toyota hilux is the worst in pickup.. Even Nissan frontier are more better then Toyota… Isuzu D-max only then 3.0L are the best in FC, but in normal roads… Heavy duty only so so… If take the 2.5L even worst… So conclusion, heavy duty work load take Ford, for FC take Isuzu D-max 3.0. I prefer manual..

The funny thing about this whole rebadge things is it might not hit the sweet spot all the time. What I am trying to say is, the Ranger is "Built Tough" and the whole macho image. Then come Mazda, trying to make a brick to look like a american football, oval and sleek.

The design cus are all confusing, from the from to passenger box, and to the cargo bed. It like the latest serving of Asian Fusion food in one of those all-under-one roof eatery.

Worst still is the interior look almost the same with the Ranger, again, where is the coherent?

Then again this is Asia, its cheap, its imitation, it look half as good of the original, its a bargain. We willing to pay, they are willing to do it shamelessly.

    wahlaueh…

ugly & really a typical pickup look.

Match Mits. Triton Vs Fighter Vs Ranger

    result : 1 : 0 : 0

i wonder does Triton have better back seats (better back leg room & seat angle) than this Mazda…

At the moment Mitsu Triton i think is the most good looking pick up. Ford more " macho" looking. Hi Lux safe looking , nothing special nor provoking.. Maybe Ford should copy exactly like the new F150 and lower the capacity

In East Malaysia, Hilux is the most prefered pick-up..Hilux maybe not as powerful as ford, but interms of reliability no other pick-up can match the hilux..It's unbreakable…

  • LittleFire85 (Member) on May 17, 2007 at 8:18 am

Ehm… Hilux unbreakable? I think reliability got laa, coz the engine still use the old hilux engine.. so the spare part are a lot and easy to upgrade.. thx to the half-cuts from japan…for comfort sure i prefer hilux.. but if for heavy duty work Ford still win the day.. I dont see the military of Thailand use toyota hilux, but i see most of them use nissan and ford. Toyota is famous for his passenger car, but not for 4X4 heavy duty work.. Even isuzu done more better then toyota, that's why isuzu also one of toyota share partner now.. coz of his old-age engine toyota have to find another partner to improve it's diesel engine…
