2014 Honda Odyssey, Acura MDX for NY show debut

Honda Odyssey teaser

Heading for the New York International Auto Show at the end of the month are the updated-for-2014 Honda Odyssey and the production version of the third-gen Acura MDX.

With regards to the Odyssey, Honda has not let out any details – all we have at the moment is the above teaser image (if you can call it that) which we guess pays homage to school-run moms, the kids they ferry around and the cereal bits that inevitably litter the footwells. Remember, this is the US-spec car (we get the JDM version); cendol strands could probably be used in our context.

Rumour has it though, that the minivan could be powered by a new 3.5 litre V6 with 278 hp and 341 Nm of torque, and be driven through a six-speed auto as standard. Safety features such as adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning are also speculated to be included, but we don’t have long to wait before Honda gets official.

The 2014 Acura MDX showed up in Detroit in concept form; the production car should differ little from that, visually at least. The new 3.5 litre i-VTEC SOHC V6 with Variable Cylinder Management will be offered with AWD or FWD.

Why don’t Honda just put SOHC in all of her vehicles? She seems to be very proud of her own SOHC.

can’t say it’ll kill that market. totally different category the way i see it. odyssey will not provide the comfort of vellfire/estima/alphard. but that said, they will not handle as well as the odyssey.

So all depends on the buyers needs.

      • The USDM Odyssey is a proper full-sized MPV and offers significantly more space than the JDM Odyssey.

Actually Odyssey new model will replace a combination of current Odyssey (low height, no sliding door) and Elysion (minivan height with sliding door). The new model will be 1700mm height, more alike with Toyota Estima. They chosed to name the new model as next-gen Odyssey instead of Elysion, since Odyssey is more well-known and was launched earlier (1994) compared to Elysion (2004).

This Odyssey would be in its 5th generation and for those that haven’t driven these USDM “minivans”… I can tell you these are very large and drive very very well…. They are larger than the Alphad and Estima we commonly see here.

Don’t get confused between this and the JDM Odyssey. Completely different vehicle. This UDSM is sold as the LaGreat in Japan…and only comes with the 3.5v6. This goes head to head with the Toyota Sienna, Nissan Quest, Chrysler town and Country. …all with big V6 engines and LHD which is why you don’t see too many of these here.

I loved them but they are not economical to run here.
