Proton Iriz Active Mk2 concept to bow at Alami Proton

Proton_Iriz_Active_concept_012

Remember the Proton Iriz Active concept shown at Alami Proton 2014? It was very well received by the public, and now it’ll be back again this weekend in an updated form, called simply the Proton Iriz Active Mk2.

Not much has been changed compared to the original concept (pictured here). It’s still predominantly grey and orange, but now with an updated body decals. Proton’s 30th anniversary logo is featured prominently too. The most visible change is a new set of wheels.

Redesigned roof rail modules are an integral part of the Mk2 makeover too, but this new addition will only be visible in the official product videos, and not on the actual vehicle.

As with the Proton Pick-up Concept, the 2016 Perdana preview and the “Evolution of the Perdana” showcase, the Iriz Active Mk2 concept will be open to the public at the Alami Proton event this weekend. We’ll have more on this – details, photos – live from the event tomorrow.

The ability to produce 1 car and the ability to mass produce cars are 2 different ball games altogether. Concept cars are useless if it couldn’t be commercialized. Proton has been showing many concept cars for many donkey years; how many were translated into mass production? I have no interest to watch your concept cars Sir ..

  • Iriz is a Failure on Oct 02, 2015 at 2:59 pm

Proton can do all sorts of makeover, but Iriz is simply a failure. You can see this by the number on the road. You do see some, but not many.

Sales are so bad, even the CEO had to come and lie to the rakyat that orders are so long and Iriz is doing well. But go to the yards and see, thousands of Iriz have been sitting in the hot sum for months now, nobody taking.

Proton can lie all they want but Iriz is a nig failure. Let us face facts. It is another Savvy. Full of hype for the Savvy having French Renault engine and all that, but sales went kaput

So… when can we see this on the roads ?

My guess is that the Iriz Active is just a tech demonstrator, and whatever we see here, today, will début in the Iriz mid-life facelift in around 2017/2018.

Or, this is the cosmetic precedent for the Iriz EV. That huge central touchscreen is very Tesla Model S-like, and those light bars fit with the whole EV image.

My third theory is that it’s a concept for a new B-segment pseudo-SUV model. It won’t be anything on the scale seen with the Jazz/City to HR-V project, but maybe it could be a stopgap, until Proton makes a real B-segment SUV. Who knows.

No need for Proton to create B-segment from scratch, just re badge the New Suzuki Vitara and be done with.

    (1) still in concept and already a Mk2?
    (2) they should’ve released this, fit in a turbo engine, priced it at a premium, and called it Iris GT or something.
    (3) why call it ‘evolution of the perdana’ when we’ve only had ONE version of it? A to B is hardly an evolution.
