Mercedes-Benz shows naked W213 E-Class body

Here’s a first look at a completely undisguised Mercedes-Benz W213 E-Class to feast your eyes on. Unfortunately, it’s also just a naked body for now, previewed in conjunction with a news release by the German car maker surrounding its next steps in its industrial revolution, Industrie 4.0.

There really isn’t much to see here that you couldn’t already piece together in your mind based on the previous buckets of spyshots we’ve brought you, but it does at least confirm the car’s overall silhouette, without any camouflage in the way. Mentally, you should be able to see a full version of the car, if you try hard enough to imagine it.

Clearly, the E-Class is poised to form the perfect middle-ground of an S-Class and a C-Class, borrowing lots of design cues from the pair that already showcase Mercedes-Benz’s latest design language, inside and out.

In the past, the car maker has also given us a look at what its headlamps and taillamps will look like, and at the same time, revealed an impressive list of tech due to feature on the new E-Class: to recap, these include a Remote Parking Pilot, NFC keyless entry, and a long list of next-gen safety features.

More recently, we’ve been able to snag a few spy photos that completely revealed the interior of the W213 for the first time, confirming our suspicious that its design would be previewed by the latest Concept IAA, which made its debut at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show.

The spied interior photos of the S213 Wagon version of the E-Class revealed that again, Mercedes-Benz was aiming right down the middle of its S-Class and C-Class: the upper half of the dash appeared to have been inspired by the S-Class, while the lower stack taken from the C-Class.

For performance, it has been rumoured that the next-gen E-Class will get a range of new straight-six turbodiesel engines, while a seriously revamped version of the E 63 is expected to adopt the same 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 from the C 63 (M177), relieving its current 5.5 litre V8 biturbo of duty.

Hopefully, all these bits give you a clearer mental image of the coming E-Class as we wait for a global reveal of the car, which shouldn’t take too long from now to take shape.

    Interesting times indeed.

Now time to wait for BMW to show us what is under the 5er, though we already know for a fact the carbon core will be there.
