The all-new Mazda CX-4 will officially make its global debut at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show. To accompany the announcement, the Japanese carmaker has released this teaser image showing the crossover’s C-pillar section.
Not that any mystery is necessary at this point, with the CX-4 being spied in its entirety many times over. The model seen in those images depict a vehicle that appears to be a raised version of the Mazda 3 hatchback.
Mazda’s Kodo – Soul of Motion design philosophy is a prominent feature here, with a long bonnet, signature lighting, front grille and distinct character line running along the car’s sides. However, additional details like a chrome trim piece linking the rear tail lights and roof rails distinguish the car in terms of looks.
Inside, the cabin bears a strong resemblance to that of the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6, with a similar dash, centre stack and centre console layout. Spyshots reveal the presence of the brand’s MZD infotainment system (seven-inch touchscreen and Commander Control), with lower spec variants receiving a more basic audio system.
The same can be said of the climate control unit as well, where there are dual and single zone units offered. There is also an electronic parking brake, a feature found on the facelifted CX-5 and 6. Elsewhere, the CX-4 shares many commonalities with current Mazda models, including the three-spoke steering wheel and instrument cluster design.
No details on the CX-4’s powertrain, but expect the brand’s range of diesel and petrol engines to be offered. This includes the brand’s SkyActiv-G mills in 2.0 litre (155 hp/200 Nm) and 2.5 litre (184 hp/250 Nm) configurations.
The oil burner option could be a 2.2 litre SkyActiv-D turbodiesel. The engines should be linked to six-speed SkyActiv-MT manual or SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmissions, with the choice of two- or four-wheel drive. More info should be released when the Mazda CX-4 makes its official global debut at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show, which is set to take place in late April.

Is there any surprise for Mazda’s design? They all look the same to me!
The new CX-4’s design seems to be closer to the Mazda 3. All new Mazda have a similar design language, of course – like every brand has.
But the current models are not only smaller or larger copies of the same design. The CX-5 looks different from the CX-3, CX-9 or the sedans (Mazda 2, 3 and 6). The new MX-5 or the upcoming RX-9 look very different.
I agree, that the Kodo design is now more familiar and no more «brand new».
Justvsack the designer. Too lazy to think !
I instantly regretted buying the cx-5
I think, that the CX-5 and the upcoming CX-4 are in the same class of vehicles. The CX-5 is more a SUV offers more space than the CX-4
I see it more as a competitor to the smaller CX-3, which is a crossover. We have the new CX-5 and the CX-3. I first owned a Mazda 3 but prefer a more higher ride. But the CX-3’s interior space is smaller than the Mazda 3.
So the new CX-4 would offer both: space and dynamics of the Mazda 3 but with a higher ride.
want to see it price over the cx5 or under the cx5..
