Will it be called the Mazda CX-4 or the CX-6? If your answer is the former, congratulations. Thanks to PopSUV, which managed to spot a pre-production version of the upcoming crossover, we now have confirmation of the vehicle’s designation.
The CX-4 name is clearly seen on the vehicle’s tailgate, a clear indication that the model will be positioned above the CX-3, Mazda’s smallest crossover offering currently. The crossover was previewed by the Koeru concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
While the test mule does wear a substantial amount of camouflage, and dirt for that matter, certain design highlights can be clearly seen. This includes the brand’s signature headlamp design (with LED DRLs), slim tail lights, side mirror indicators and 17-inch wheels (with 225/65R17 size tyres).
This is consistent with an earlier sighting of the CX-4, where a completely undisguised test mule was seen in China. The photographers also managed to capture a clear view of the CX-4’s interior here, which has a strong resemblance to that of the Mazda 3, expect for that electronic parking brake.
Although Mazda’s MZD touchscreen infotainment system can’t be seen here, it is a given that higher variants will be fitted with it, whereby a Commander Control dial and buttons will occupy the space just behind the gear shift.
Given the fact that the car seen here is a left-hand drive model, the Mazda CX-4 is highly tipped to make its global debut at the Beijing Motor Show (Auto China) at the end of April.
Depending on the market, power should come from 2.0 or 2.5 litre SkyActiv-G engines, with SkyActiv-D diesel mills (2.2 litre or even a 1.5 litre) on offer as well. Expect the engines to be mated to a six-speed automatic with optional four-wheel drive.
What do you think of the Mazda CX-4’s name? More importantly, how interested are you at purchasing a vehicle like this?

I can’t say I’m a big fan of skinny lights but if priced right why not? Since it’s supposed to slot between the CX3 and CX5 so it’s priced should be in between too.
The gap between cx3 and cx5 is too narrow. Im guessing this will come higher than the cx5
for china needs to be named CX-3A
hahaha you got that right
OMG…that should be CX 6…macam BMW X6 mah..
or called CX-A.
=P
Mazda just got sexier!
Hopefully Mazda got this one right, packaging wise. It looks good..
