FIRST LOOK: 2018 Perodua Myvi video walk-around

Did you watch our exclusive livestream of the new Perodua Myvi’s official launch yesterday evening? For those who were stuck in rush hour traffic, here a snippet of the livestream, where our suited Shah took viewers on a live walkaround of the third-generation hatchback. He had a crowd to dodge in the video, because the car was unveiled just moments before by minister of international trade and industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

The video shows you the three variants of the new Myvi that were on the launch stage – the 1.3 Premium X, 1.5 H (High) and 1.5 Advance. The Premium X is the higher of the two 1.3L variants, the other being the base Standard G. It’s powered by a 1.3 litre Dual VVT-i engine with 94 hp and 121 Nm, with the sole gearbox option of a four-speed automatic.

Equipment such as LED headlamps with auto off and follow-me-home functions, LED tail lamps, keyless entry and push start, digital air con controls with two memory settings, four airbags, ABS/EBD/VSC and seat belt reminder for all seats are standard from the base Standard G.

The Premium X adds on Eco Idle auto start-stop, hill start assist, fog lamps, front parking sensors, power-retractable side mirrors, Bluetooth, a USB charger integrated into the driver’s seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and phone controls and adjustable headrests for the rear seats.

Appearance wise, it gets chrome trim all around the body, and a mixture of chrome and silver trim inside (all black in the Standard G). The unit you see here is in the new Peppermint Green colour that’s exclusive to 1.3L variants.

Moving on, the 1.5 H and 1.5 Advance variants are powered by a Dual VVT-i 2NR engine that’s also found in the Toyota Avanza and Vios. Here, it has 102 hp and 136 Nm of torque, and is paired to the same 4AT gearbox. In addition to all the above kit, the 1.5L cars roll on 15-inch dual-tone alloys and come with six airbags and a built-in Touch n Go reader. Both have a front lip and side skirts in two-tone, a two-tone rear bumper and a rear spoiler.

Going for the top 1.5 Advance nets you leather, a touchscreen head unit with navigation and SmartLink, reverse camera and security window tint.

The big ticket item here is Advanced Safety Assist (ASA), which includes Pre-collision Warning, Pre-collision Braking (low-speed autonomous emergency braking), Front Departure Alert and Pedal Misoperation Control functions via a stereo camera on the top of the windscreen. Full explanation of ASA and its functions here.

If you would like a more detailed walk-around tour, don’t worry – we’ll have a full video of the car very soon. Once you’re done watching, have a look at our launch report, spec-by-spec guide and first impressions review of the new Myvi. Also, check out detailed specs and compare it against other B-segment cars on CarBase.my.

Malaysian economy expands at fastest pace in more than 3 years. GDP rose 6.2%! Credits due to Gov smart fiscal policies and public transports spending.

P2 still will never move on to develop their own new transmission.

By upcoming new model release next year for example like Alza, they will sticking their 4-speed auto

    • There is no need to reinvent something with big investment when they can easily source from specialist suppliers for much cheaper. Mercedes and BMW tak bodoh sombong, they get transmissions from reputable companies.

  • In Built Smart Tag? Seat Pockets USB Charger? Navigation with SmartLink? Spacious rear Leg room and Rudimentary but Lauded Active Safety System? BMW Might be the Ultimate Driving Machine, but the new Myvi is unquestionably the Ultimate Uber Machine.

I was reading Proton guy Aero’s comment on the Myvi in one of the landslide of Myvi articles and I have to agree. Even if you dont like it, its cheapo la , its only a Myvi la, and (The pièce de résistance of any armchair critic) its ugly la, the Myvi will generate a wave of more competitive B-segment that will eventually influence segments higher. Its truly a game changer, as someone tried to argue the Iriz’s competition was what influence the new Myvi; perhaps but probably majorly, it may have 6 airbags & VSC at low cost but so was the Picanto which technically is a segment lower. And the new Iriz dosent come close to the reputation a Myvi has and therefore unable to chellenge it.

The brilliance of the Myvi is that is a house whole name with a reputation for dependability and affordability, giving features that no car in its competitive price range and higher has, It renders all other sub-RM100k option questionable, and as a friend of mine put it “Only brand loyalty and customer service will keep people buying other B-segment”. Like how the Tesla Model S sparked the EV revolution in the world, Its nearly impossible to think any car maker, Proton, Honda, Kia, Toyota, Nissan and etc, will stay idle in Malaysia and perhaps even the SEA region. I have very high anticipation of what the future B-segments will bring to the market.
Ah, The beauty of Market Competition.

But Perodua is an association of manufacturers or suppliers with the purpose of maintaining prices at a high level and restricting competition cause Perodua doesnt allow other brands like Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Honda, Toyota, Nissan to be at the top, only Perodua is only wanted itself to be at the top which is very selfish, highly offensive, snobbish, awful and disrespectful to other car brands. Lastly don’t buy Perodua and also hopefully Perodua sales will keep on dropping

No paddle shifters and turbocharged engine. Worst that it’s only a 4 speeder. That’s an ancient gearbox.

This is not a fun car to drive.

Looks nice, credit given when it’s due. The only ‘problem’ is this will be a very, very common car on the road. The only way to be different and to be a head turner is to get a different car.
