Proton year-to-date sales up 2% as of November 2017

Proton has announced that it recorded an increase in its year-to-date sales performance for the month ending November 30, 2017, recording 66,190 units in sales. This represents a 2% growth compared to 65,059 units in the same period last year.

“It has been a challenging journey for Proton since the past five years and the steady growth that we recorded from January – November 2017 is a positive achievement for Proton. We will continue to push ourselves harder in the coming months and we hope that customers will take advantage of the incredible year-end deals for Proton cars,” said Abdul Rashid Musa, vice president of sales and marketing at Proton.

The Saga and Persona contributed most to Proton’s performance, making up for 70% of its total car sales with 28,368 and 18,113 units, respectively. Meanwhile, the national carmaker’s success at the Sepang 1000km (S1k) Endurance Race helped the Iriz gain some slight traction in sales with a 2.8% increase in November 2017 compared to October 2017.

“Growth is seen from the current quality improvements that are on-going internally. Together with our partner, Proton has intensified quality improvement processes and efforts, with exceptional sharing of knowledge and skills; and the opportunity for our local team to be trained at Geely in China,” said Rashid

“Progress has been positive since Proton already own good and durable products. The reliability and durability of our cars were tested in a gruelling nine-hour endurance race at Sepang 1,000km 2017 last month where Proton car was the overall winner. We shall keep working on further improvements in our cars and we look forward to also do better in providing customer satisfaction,” he added.

Ya, smarter choice, later numbers of bookings will be cancelled once they noticed it. Why?

        1) Severely lagging throttle response, even with 1.5 engine (if 1.3, most probably need to floor throttle kawkaw one just to get it moving). But hor, even with shitty leftover autobox (just it was brandished to look like new) also people will buy, as long it’s not a manual gearbox.

        2) No water temperature gauge, previous two generations Myvi have it (this one is one of the example of doing things based on assumption. ie driver will never or rarely looked at it). If new car can say la, what if the car is 10 years old or over (it’s not that we like to keep the car for such long period, sometimes because many buyers going for 7 – 9 years loan). Even one part from cooling system spoil is enough to overheat the engine and imagine if no temperature gauge to alert, whole engine might smoking out and condemned or even caught fire and engulfed whole car in extreme case as the engine overheating was unnoticeable.

Proton fails to understand that their market is Persona and Saga buyers. This is why 75% of Proton’s total sales is Saga and Persona. their own statistics

Malaysians are reluctant to spend more than RM60k for a Proton.

But somehow Proton thinks their Boyue at probably RM99k will sell super well.

Even Perdana cannot sell. All bought by kerajaan. Preve also could not sell at RM70k

Don’t u think it is wiser to drop all your unprofitable lines and save yourself from losing RM4 million per day and begging billions of rakyat money?

Earlier this year Proton targeting 10,000 monthly sales or 120,000 units annually.

They need at least 150,000 units just to break-even cost and make decent profit onwards.

Yay what an upgrade from going to UK to be trained with lotus now going to China to be trained by Geely. Guess previous traning at UK didn’t dent Proton to upgrade themselves.

    Sept2017 YTD – 12.5% over LY
    Oct2017 YTD – 6% over LY
    Nov2017 YTD – 2% over LY

Guess what Dec 2017 will look like? Definitely a negative %, LOL.

  • The sales figure for the Myvi model alone for 1 quarter already surpasses the total sales volume for the whole of Proton for the entire year. Proton need to desperately throw sales and discounts to entice buyers to buy it’s junk cars. I really pity all the new Proton drivers. Kena laughed at for driving the worst cars in the world. Their faces throw down the drain. Malu until face dunno where to put.

    Everyone should boycott P1.
Promised new line of engines but until today habuk pun tarak.
With dwindling sales figures then only management will wake up cos vendors will be knocking at their doors.

    Oh WOW !!!

TWO percent growth. Sooooo proud. Is this how low standards has dropped in M’sia?

In corporate world, a 2% growth is insignificant. Akin to zero growth. Any CEO who proudly announce 2% growth to the Board & Shareholders will be given the boot.

2% growth = +1,131 cars (11 months) = avg +102.8 cars per month (with Saga & Persona making up 70% of total).

30+ years in business & all they can sell is 66,190 cars in 11 months. Even adding the insignificant exports, the total is simply disappointing & frankly, one big expensive joke.

If given the chance for imported car to sell with fairly price with no 200-300% tax imposed, do you still want to buy P1?

  • 2% is nothing to shout about. This VP doesn’t even sound worried. The thinking must be that no matter how good or bad the sales are, no problem, P1 will always be around at least in Malaysia.
