Previewed in March, the new Nissan Serena S-Hybrid was officially launched today, and the fifth-generation C27 goes on sale here in two trim level forms, Highway Star (RM135,500) and Premium Highway Star (RM147,500_).
As before, the locally-assembled MPV features the same powertrain as seen on the C26 Serena, this being a MR20DD 2.0 litre direct-injected twin-CVTC four-cylinder petrol engine. The unit makes slightly more power at 150 PS at 6,000 rpm and 200 Nm at 4,400 rpm.
The unit, which is paired with an Xtronic CVT, is supplemented by a 2.6 PS/48 Nm ECO motor that controls the car’s Idling Stop function and serves as an alternator during deceleration. The unit also provides a “torque assist” function, offering a 50 Nm boost for up to one second when moving away from a standstill.
Unlike the previous eight-seater Serena, the new gen seats seven, with the second-row layout consisting of captain’s chairs with armrests. Standard equipment includes LED headlights, front and rear fog lights, 15-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, push-button start, a Clarion head unit with a 6.75-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility as well as single-zone auto climate control and rear air-con controls.
Going the Premium Highway Star route adds 16-inch alloys, combination leather upholstery in either black or two-tone Truffle Brown and Chestnut, a 10.1-inch roof-mounted LCD rear display and a Tech-On tray mat on the second-row picnic table for holding tablets or other devices, among other items. Was seriously considering to purchase this car, but no Pro Pilot and active safety features, including adaptive cruise control offered for Malaysian customers, it’s a shame.. I will spend my money elsewhere. Thanks but no thanks TC.
Smart choice.

3. Kia Carnival
Buy exora better! Turbo 1.6 engine.. good rv
Dislike the 6+1 seat.
You dont need a MPV with 6 +1 seater, you can get many option from SUV with 6+1 configuration.
They should bring in the 8 seater magic seat.
What a bad decision.
No spare tyre. Why Nissan remove this?
Granted that Nissan Japan is still sorting out the pro-pilot system, to be introduced to Asean Roads, wished that ETCM would have priced the car more sensibly, as it does not even have the E power range extender power plant…. And yet it is priced exorbitantly, plus the two tone leather stiching on seat are absolutely piss poor….
I think a recon alphard/vellfire is more bargain at rm120k-rm150k. Reliable also ok i guess.
one of the worst leather seats i have seen. Many of the China made cars are far better
