Proton sold 7,615 units in June, YTD up 61% on 2018 – achieves 18.1% market share for the month

Proton has announced that it sold 7,615 units for the month of June, the company’s second highest sales figure for the year following that achieved last month, in which 10,611 units were shifted. The numbers for the month are good enough to put the national automaker behind market leader Perodua.

For the month of June, Proton said it ended up with a market share of 18.1%, its highest since July 2015. The company also reported that its sales were 23% higher than the same month last year, and said that June’s numbers have also contributed to an overall sales growth of 61% for the first six months of 2019, putting it on track to achieve its 2019 sales targets.

Leading the way is of course the X70 SUV, of which 15,175 units have been sold in the first half of the year. Meanwhile, the automaker delivered 2,541 units of the Saga in June, and bookings for the the updated Persona, Iriz and Exora enjoyed a growth of 108%, 180% and 135% respectively (in comparison to their pre-booking numbers).

“By achieving a market share of 18.1% in June, Proton continues to show positive sales growth this year despite the tough market conditions following the Hari Raya holidays. Our year to date market share currently stands at 14.7% and is a big improvement of our 2018 figure of 10.8%,” said Proton CEO Li Chunrong.

“For the second half of the year, we will concentrate on building our sales and exciting the market by introducing new and updated models as we promised at the beginning of the year,” he added.

This is so shocking! Last month sales is around 10,000 and this month sales drop to 7,600 only. I dont know what is going on with Proton but the clear thing is that Proton cars are all game over. Not only that, Proton SC and quality are also game over and that is why people lose trust and automatically sales drop. My advice for Proton is to learn from game changing Perodua because Perodua are good at car business and always create game changing cars that Malaysian want

The vehicles has looks that appeal plus the good price positioning. But, the price positioning will not be realized without government support in reducing the applicable taxes eventhough it is very much still CBU from China. Thus, it is an unfair competition.

Can you see what’s happening? Sales grow when everybody grows but don’t shrink as much when the market takes a downturn. That is how Perodua did it and unsurprisingly, both national brands are in a great position to take 55-60% of the market. Watch for more y-o-y contractions from the 3 Japanese brands as July and August 2018 posted even crazier numbers thanks to the tax holiday.

Typical mentality of a loser. Insulting P2 when their own sales is just a fraction of P2.

This is like a person that just upgraded his PPR unit to a medium cost apartment insulting a multi-billionaire staying in one of his many bungalows.

    Ukurlah badan sebelum insult.

This is like a person that thinks his medium cost apartment insulting PPR residents and looking down upon them when he himself is struggling to keep up with repayments while the PPR owners don’t have such troubles

I don’t mean to discredit Li Chunrong, but we do have a good CEO back then, Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir (DSZ).

DSZ is one standout CEO amongst the rest, whereby he is also instrumental in bringing Proton back to its track.

So in Proton’s history, DSZ & Li Chunrong is an example of good CEO with good track record.

I’ve seen these “thanks to China” comments over and over again. In my opinion, the hidden intention behind it is to challenge the Malaysian patriotism. Now, what does that leads to? It would make patriotic Malaysian angry at our own people or even gov because we had to rely on non-native Malaysian people or company to run our homegrown company. This is my opinion but if its true, I question your intention mister. Because you instigate a negativity thought amongst Malaysian and thats not good.
