SPYSHOTS: Mazda 2 Sedan sighted in Thailand

The Mazda 2 Sedan has been sighted in Thailand again. This time we can see a full side profile view of the disguised Honda City fighter thanks to spyshots posted on Thailand’s Headlightmag forums. We’ve put Theophilus Chin’s rendering of the Mazda 2 Sedan next to it – what do you think of Mazda’s attempt at translating the hatchback’s design to a sedan body?

Earlier this week we saw a Mazda dealership post up indicative pricing and specs for the new Mazda 2 hatchback and sedan. The sedan was listed for RM85,xxx while the hatchback was given a RM87,xxx price tag. Two ads for the new Mazda 2 Skyactiv on our sister classifieds website oto.my have appeared, listing the hatchback for RM87,670 and RM88,000 respectively.

Other tentative specs listed include 16 inch alloys with 185/60R16 tyres, a 7″ touch screen MZD Connect system, daytime running lights, automatic air conditioning, keyless entry with engine push start, head-up display, stability control, dual airbags, reverse camera, i-stop auto start/stop, and paddle shifters.

The tentative specs list sound the same as what we’ve seen on the Indonesian market R Spec. Both body styles will get a 114 hp, 148 Nm 1.5 litre Skyactiv engine mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

We’ve of course driven it – if you want to find out what the hatchback is like, read Jonathan Lee’s impressions of the Mazda 2 from the media test drive session in Japan back in August.

Hopefully those top spec equipment will also be available in the Mazda 2 Sedan form. I mean , not everyone is a fan of the hatch style, but they still want to have that full spec.

M2 sedan should be price rm85k OTR. Should hv same spec as hatchback. Mazda is not reliable as honda & toyota, should offer 5 year manufacturer warranty.

  • Great news.More choice for people who were thinking about the City and Vios to choose from. Hopefully it’s as practical as those two namely in terms of decent level of power, safety and usable spaces. It sure looks good in the looks dept though.

The problem is that the current gen Mazda 2 is already tight enough as it is, and given that the new gen has a smaller leg room, people will be thinking twice if they will be willing to sacrifice comfort for a better ride and much more pleasing exterior
