The new tenth-generation 2016 Honda Civic has been spotted completely undisguised in Indonesia, AutonetMagz reports. The car was sighted in Jakarta without a licence plate, but instead with a plate bearing the words “All New Civic” – this indicates that it may have been in the middle of a TV commercial shoot, which would mean that a launch in the country would likely be happening soon, just after its launch in Thailand last week.
Based on the machine-finish 17-inch turbine design wheels fitted to this car, it’s likely that this is the 1.5 Turbo RS model that is the range-topper in Thailand, albeit without the rear spoiler fitted to cars sold in the Kingdom. This tallies with an earlier AutonetMagz report, which revealed that a turbocharged model fitted with a CVT was undergoing type approval in Indonesia.
The question is, of course, when will Malaysia get its new Civic? Well, after Indonesia, we would be the only other major right-hand drive country yet to receive it, along with Australia – so it’s pretty much certain that we will get it next, and soon. That would be after the Civic is adapted for local assembly (CKD) at Honda Malaysia’s plant in Pegoh, Melaka of course.
In fact, the new Civic has already been teased, albeit indirectly, by Honda Malaysia – the company announced that it would be bringing in two CKD models this year. One is said to be a brand new model, which would likely mean the Civic; the other, a minor model change, is expected to be the facelifted Accord.
Engine choices would likely mirror those in Thailand, including a 141 hp/174 Nm 1.8 litre naturally-aspirated i-VTEC and a 173 hp/220 Nm 1.5 litre VTEC Turbo, both mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) – which means it’s goodbye to the old five-speed automatic.
Plenty of equipment on offer too, including full-LED headlights, Remote Engine Start, Walk Away Auto Lock, a Honda Display Audio system with a seven-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay connectivity, six airbags and Honda Lane Watch blind spot monitoring.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
brand new=brv? no?
The Civic may fail like the last Civic cause the pricing is way too close to Honda Accord and even the same as Teana.
Why get a tiny C segment car when you can get a huge D segment car like Teana or honda Accord? Do you know a Teana, after discounts, OTR is RM124k. And Accord after discounts it is RM129k.
When you are pricing your Civic like RM120k and the 1.5 at RM160k, mana masuk logic?
Oh btw, to all the Civic fans, driving an Accord or even a Teana is 100x better feel than a Civic lah! Let us face facts. This is why the last Civic was a huge big failure.
Game changer? This is game over for others!
This is game over for Civic itself, its priced b-segment at c-segment price.
We have tons of current gen Civic keep backyard.
Jetta 1.4TSI 240Nm 160PS.
Focus 1.5EcoBoost 240Nm 180PS.
Civic 1.5T 220Nm 173hp.
NA engine Skyactive win.
For almost the same price in Honda, you can opt for the kosong spec Accord or a fully spec Civic with all the bells and whistles.
Driving a underpowered 2.0L NA D-segment car is no fun at all. 2.4L engine ones are another story of course, price bracket also not the same anymore.
I wonder if you have test driven the new Teana 2.0?
Feel very under power…
Not sure if you notice that Honda has increased the Honda Accord price starting from Rm141k not RM129K. Even include the 5k discount will still be RM136K for a big piece of empty car.
Nissan Teana 2.0XE is another bulky car, underpowered and bad fuel consumption. Even with the RM10k discount, their sales still drop, that tells you a lot.
Get your info right bro!
The rear looked more and more like Insight.
However, as I said, you won’t go wrong with sushi cars. Kimchi no RV Proton no quality.
So Takata airbags got quality?
See which sushi only. Some joining kimchi playing discount already lo
GG if Honda Malaysia decided to soldier on with 1.8 and 2.0 NA engines
Same with your underpowered 316 F30
Once this Civic coming in Malaysia, with reasonable pricing (RM135k at most for top variant) and equipment level, another money and blood sucker company can kiss goodbye to their Alt*i* as nowadays more carbuyers are educated and not blindly buying just a ‘brand’ with stripped off spec at sky high price. But they have to remember that there’s other competitors that can give better value proposition as well.
List of other C-segment competitors (except Preve due to distorted pricing policy, however, safety spec is good with 6 airbags and ESC across the range)
1) Kia Cerato – those want high equipment level and good interior space with less money spent, and RV not their priority (however, don’t go for KX version).
2) Mazda 3 – Same with Kia Cerato (with lack of interior space), however Mazda 3 score better for styling and driving enjoyment.
3) Nissan Sylphy – Reasonably well equipped and spacious interior with acceptable pricing, however, it was seriously underrated.
Is the a TLDR version of your essay?
Why not list your recond F30 316?
expected price?
I believe Honda has a dilemma to bring this in since it will affect HRV sales.
No. Honda knows this can’t compete with the new Perdana. Perdana 2.4 priced at 128K. (This is the price, not RM150K) Civic will be priced around there for the top spec.
Civic is a feminine car, no straight man would drive it. It’s style over substance. Daffodil mobile.
A RM120K car doesn’t come with a handbrake. What? How are you you supposed to do handbrake turns?
RM120K for a smaller, narrower, less powerful, unstable, fancy looking little coffin? May as well buy an Axia. They’re both the same. Trash.
1. Perdana and civic are different segments. Please use apple to apple comparison. Using price alone is will not make the deciding factor to purchase a car.
2. Feminine car? Depends on ones view. Nobody is pointing a gun on your head to buy it if you think is girly.
3. Handbrake is replaced by parking brake to prevents idiots making handbrake turns which may endanger other road users.
4. Little coffin title is taken by other Jap car maker. Yet again Axia is different segment car but civic is no trash.
Hi daffodil. Nice to meet you.
How you know? You daffodil too ah?
It’s sad to constantly see our neighbors get all the new cars first and that tells a lot the insignificance of the Malaysia market to these car producers. Or maybe they are just plain fed up with our ‘Boleh Land’ automobile policy. What ever the reason is, in the end we Malaysians always tend to receive the outdated stuff as far as cars are concern. Sad isn’t it?
Minus toyota n honda it is better u check car brand website in other ASEAN country before u say that.
6 speed and above gearbox will be more fun for turbo car.
No fun if vtec bocor lol
Why malaysia always the last?
Market not big enuff. U wun see SG complain though. Only MY pipu
Still…it looks damn ugly…prefer the old generation design
You’re just not ready to face the future
What is hot news for next week?
very ugly at rear side .. but bcoz of honda, sure got many fans here .
U are right bro. The front face especially is completely hideous. Its like it crashed into a tree.
Dented ugly grille and shitty looking headlights. LOL
Malaysians are overly obsessed with the Honda brand. It will sell extremely well no matter how hideous their cars look.
I’ve seen this car on the road , parked among other cars. I ha’vent driven it yet but i had sat in it and have a good look at the exterior on the El model in Thailand. To me this is a very good looking car and i really like the interior with soft touch, in my opinion there’s going to be a Civic rush soon
Call me when it breaks down. I got special price for towing turbo bocor car
previously, malaysia was the 2nd country got civic fd2r after japan, nowadays our policy climate was not too friendly to automotive industry yet the demand is there, thailand and indonesia are on the right track to be the strongest automotive hub in SEA, the 10th gen civic late launch & less model lineup offered gives early sign that our country was not in honda radar for their expanding plan
2018 for Malaysia
Top spec 1.5T will be priced below RM140k Launching by June this year.
Might as well get Accord with base 142k price.
What a let down!
Power of Dreams.
Below rm140k? Of course laa.. But then they’ll priced it at rm139,999. Only rm1 difference. Puiii
nvr really like insight design..this one go copy it.. adui. rear is just out of trend
vtec turbo without vtec lol.
honda mau tipu siapa??
where is the honda safety sensing suite?????
Go into drain ady
Economy is bad now. If priced wrongly i.e. high nobody can afford to buy even if they want to.
C segment buyers are spoilt for choice as it is the most interesting n quite affordable imho. Check out sleeper hits like Renault Fluence, Nissan sylphy or even proton inspira. They r just as good.
Exteior design is decent not ugly, interior is good looking & spacious, engine is powerful, it will still sell well if priced correctly. However I got the same feeling when 9th gen came out, thinking previous gen has better looking exterior.
