Honda Civic Type R Prototype races to Paris show

Honda is previewing its next model to wear the hallowed Type R badge at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The Honda Civic Type R Prototype will be making its debut there next to the cooking hatch.

The regular Civic hatch is already a very aggressive-looking car, but the Type R turns it all up to 11. There’s a large front splitter, extra vents on the front and rear bumper corners and behind the front wheels, a bonnet scoop and blown front and rear fenders that house larger alloy wheels hiding Brembo brakes.

Other cues include deeper side sills, aero strakes on the roof and a big rear diffuser with three centrally-mounted exhaust pipes – just like a Ferrari 458 Italia. Oh, and a massive rear wing and a smattering of Type R badges, of course. It’s all bang on what we’ve seen in previous spyshots.

No technical details have been released yet, but the new hot hatch should make use of the 2.0 litre VTEC Turbo engine used in the still-fresh FK2 Civic Type R. There, the blown mill pushes out 306 hp at 6,500 rpm and 400 Nm of torque between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm – all sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Expect increased outputs to compete with newer competition like the Ford Focus RS.

Itu baru boleh panggil special edition, engine structure is different compare to conventional civic. Tak semacam brand lain, letak X edition, cuma bodykit dan accessories lain, engine masih sama.

  • Mitsubishi can make 400 hp at 2L turbo engine… why honda just play safe at 306 Hp?

Come on.. Type R should be better than std models…

300+hp considered limit for a FWD car. Mitsubishi on the other hand is 4WD, therefore more power is no issue for it

2.0L Turbo, 306 HP & 400 Nm, 1,300+ kg car. Good solid numbers there. Will probably set a new record at Nurburgring.

There’s only so much a front wheel drive can handle. With numbers approaching 350hp, front wheel is no match to focus RS rear wheel.

  • If the driver can afford a powerful hot hatch, its better to get the latest Mercedes-AMG A45. With 381hp from 2.0 liters is still much more insane than the Civic Type R.

You are comparing Thoroughbred against chapalang horse…. It’s different league bro…people who could afford Merc AMG should be comparing M-power, they won’t bother with all these Jap cheongster car….Type-R target audiance is WRX…Evo…Golf or Focus etc..Just like comparing GTR to Ferrari or Lembukini….you will became a laughing stock…

Well said!! Some ppl don’t know how to compare. Maybe later on, he will said “when GT race time, Merc and Civic also include race what. Why said different?”

True indeed my friend. If I myself had the money, I will definitely go for the A45 AMG Hands Down. If the driver is after pure Horsepower, the AMG crushes the type R hands down. Actually, Autocar UK recently did an in depth comparison between A45 AMG, Civic Type R FK2 and Focus RS.
Similar vehicle class but different performance figures,Prices and brands of course.
