Honda UR-V launched in China – Dongfeng’s Avancier

Dongfeng Honda has officially launched its flagship model in China, the Honda UR-V. The China-market SUV is the sister car to the Honda Avancier by the Japanese carmaker’s other local joint venture partner, Guangqi Honda. The Avancier was first seen in April last year. This is the Honda Concept D from Auto Shanghai 2015, in production form.

The UR-V is the Avancier with a unique front and rear end design. In front, the upper and lower grille sections are connected in a big ‘U’ shape like the HR-V, and the LED headlamps are attached to it like a mask. This is in contrast to the more traditional passenger car-style fascia of the Avancier, which sports a Solid Wing Face look and a chrome grille like the Civic FC.

There’s change at the back, too, and the elements being rearranged are the taillamps and garnish, and the license plate slot. The UR-V’s distinctive cue is the strip of red that bridges the taillamps, a cue that our BR-V also uses. Also relocated are the logo and chrome garnish, and the recess for the number plate, which has been moved downwards. The reflectors are vertical instead of horizontal here, and the elements on the bumper (twin pipes, diffuser section) are also slightly different.

The UR-V is 9 mm longer than the Avancier at 4,825 mm. That, plus a width of 1,942 mm and a 2,820 mm wheelbase, means it’s significantly larger than the CR-V. The UR-V/Avancier duo’s rivals in China are the Toyota Highlander, Ford Edge and latest Volkswagen Tiguan L (Allspace in Europe), although those three have an extra row of seats.

The UR-V gets two turbocharged engine options, a 1.5T with 193 hp/240 Nm (badged 240 Turbo) and a 2.0T with 272 hp and 370 Nm (badged 370 Turbo). The bigger engine, which has AWD as an option, is paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. It’s good for 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds. The 1.5T is mated to a CVT automatic.

Standard goodies include a panoramic sunroof, reverse camera, smart entry, leather seats, three-zone auto air con, cruise control and an eight-inch touchscreen head unit. Top spec UR-Vs add on active safety kit such as adaptive cruise control, pre-collision warning, auto parking, head-up display, lane departure warning and maintenance and blind spot monitoring.

2.0T with 272 hp and 370 Nm. That is almost Mercedes A/CLA/GLA45 AMG territory, horsepower wise, on a bloody Honda!

Honda has the most RVs here.I mean resale value.
      Look at Mudah adverts…a 2004 Civic asking for 28K to 30K….omg a 12 year old 300,000km car.Better RV than a 2004 Camry asking for rm25000 only.
Don’t worry. They are going to launch BRIM RV soon.

Honda have many brothers masquerading as Range Rover look-a-like in the name of Guangqi/Dongfeng Honda. This must be the works of the local partners.

Wonder when will Range Rover going to sue China Honda AGAIN. Jiangling Motor was sued for allegedly copying the British firm’s Range Rover Evoque last year.

      Please sue LandWind X7.
That’s not how you compete in the automotive industry.

Since U asked, I think UMW Toyo & M’sian will be looking to the ONE called C..H..R.. & then we will have a field day bashing it.
Don’t worry, the Camry will Eventually come But later. In M’sia, Big H win on sales & models hands down.

Now this is what i call collaboration. After years of assembling for Honda, they move on to develop something positive & adds continental taste that contributes to the brand. Both parties benefit from the collaboration.

I think Honda should change the naming of if SUV-vehicles especially CR-V which is no here or there like it is between BR-V and HR-V.

I highly recommend to start sale of new Honda UR-V in USA as mid size car between CRV and pilot. Its shape is amazing and very attractive.
