BMW Malaysia and its dealer Tian Siang Premium Auto have introduced three BMW i Wallbox Plus vehicle charging stations at the WEIL Hotel in Ipoh. With this, anyone driving an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle (not limited to BMWs only) with a Type 2 connection can charge up their ride for free – no ChargEV subscription is needed for this one.
The second-generation charger is significantly smaller than the first-gen unit and features scalable outputs, from 10 to 32A – at 230V single phase (7.4 kW) up to three phase 22 kW. The ones installed at WEIL Hotel are configured for the three phase 22 kW output. Charging time (via a Type 2 connection) is said to take between three to five hours, depending on the model. The older BMW i Wallbox Pure was limited to 3.7 kW, while the Wallbox Pro offered up to 7.4 kW charging.
“The introduction of these new BMW i charging stations for the first time in Perak further demonstrates our ongoing commitment to drive Future Mobility in the country,” BMW Group Malaysia MD and CEO Harald Hoelzl said at the unveiling.
“Having charted an all-time high deliveries for our BMW iPerformance range of vehicles last year, and with Malaysia being the fifth largest market for BMW hybrid with eDrive technology vehicles, we are pleased to be taking the lead in electro-mobility and future mobility in the country,” he added.
The latest installation follows on the introduction of several BMW i chargers in other locations across the country, these being the Holiday Inn Melaka and The Equatorial Melaka (by Seong Hoe Premium Motors), as well as at CityONE Megamall Kuching (by Regas Premium Auto Sarawak).
Since the introduction of the first BMW PHEV in the country – the X5 xDrive40e in June 2016 – the premium brand has delivered over 4,500 locally-assembled electrified vehicles as of October 2017. That figure is approximately 50% of the cars the company has sold to date (from January 2017), which is the highest share of hybrids in the world for the BMW Group in terms of percentage.
Those aboard the iPerformance ship can utilise the ChargEV platform – BMW Malaysia has an ongoing partnership with the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation. The BMW ChargeNow service, which is offered as part of the BMW 360° Electric programme, grants access to ChargEV’s infrastructure – customers can enjoy 24/7 support and unrestricted access to all its 270 charging facilities nationwide.
Currently, BMW’s iPerformance PHEV range in the country consists of the 330e, X5 xDrive40e, 740Le xDrive and the latest G30 530e. For more details of each model’s equipment and specifications, head over to CarBase.my.

Will BMW be as generous for others to use like Mesidis did?
It’s available to all electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, not necessarily BMWs only.
Thanks 4 info. Hehe, it took Mesidis to be the 1st to stepup and offer theirs for all to use and now others must follow or be ostracised.
pls read the article….it says anyone driving an electric or plug in hybrid.
U got john this time prime & proper & he still think he is right.
Good start, but they need to do more.
They are currently flooding the market with so many PHEV and many of them are abusing the usage of the ChargEV points.
I’m sick and tired of taking photos of various abusive BMW and reporting to ChargEV.
So many times I went to park at a ChargEV spot, I see a BMW with the green light (fully charged). 2 hours later I return, that same BMW is there.
