    2024 BMW iX2 xDrive30 in Malaysia gallery – 449 km EV range; from RM283k; RM7k more than iX1 xDrive30

Order taking for the BMW iX2 xDrive30 M Sport started in early April this year, and we finally have a full gallery of the stylish sibling to the iX1 – both are fully-imported (CBU) models. The asking price for this electric vehicle (EV) is RM282,800 on-the-road without insurance, which is inclusive of a standard two-year warranty. If you include the optional extended five-year warranty and six-year service package, the figure goes up to RM297,000.

For the money, you get the same powertrain as the iX1 xDrive30, with a dual-motor, all-wheel drive setup rated at 313 PS (308 hp or 230 kW) – temporary boost engaged – and 494 Nm of torque. This setup is good for a 0-100 km/h time of 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h.

Power for the electric motors is provided by lithium-ion battery with a gross energy capacity of 66.5 kWh (64.7 kWh net). Thanks to its sleeker shape, the iX2 has a higher WLTP-rated range of 449 km compared to the iX1 xDrive30 that is rated at 438 km.

    2024 BMW iX2 xDrive30 in Malaysia gallery – 449 km EV range; from RM283k; RM7k more than iX1 xDrive30

Charging times are identical, with a 10-80% state of charge achieved in 29 minutes at a maximum DC input of 130 kW. There’s also slower AC charging at 11 kW which sees a full charge from 0-100% requiring 6.5 hours.

For context, the iX2 is RM7,000 more (with or without the extended warranty and service package) than the iX1 in its top xDrive30 M Sport guise, so you are paying a little extra to get that coupe-inspired design. The premium you’re paying for the iX2 also gets you some features that aren’t found on the iX1 xDrive30 M Sport, starting with larger 20-inch M V-spoke style 873 M bicolour light-alloy wheels – the iX1 gets smaller 19-inch units in style 871 M.

Additionally, the M high-gloss Shadowline package comes with extended content that sees the front grille, tailgate logo and mirror caps finished in black. No roof rails for the iX2 unlike the iX1, but the former does gain the Iconic Glow illuminated front grille, acoustic comfort glazing and M sport brakes with dark blue metallic-pained calipers.

Comparing spec sheets further, the iX2’s upholstery comes in Veganza synthetic leather or combination Alcantara/Veganza, paired with aluminium ‘Hexacube’ light interior trim finishers. The iX1 xDrive30 M Sport come with either Vernasca leather or Alcantara/Sensatec upholstery, along with the same ‘Hexacube’ interior trim finishers, but in a darker finish.

Beyond these differences, the iX2 xDrive30 M Sport is pretty much identical to the iX1 xDrive30 M Sport. Both come with adaptive M suspension, adaptive LED headlamps, an M leather steering wheel, powered front sports seats, an anthracite headliner, dual-zone climate control, an ambient lighting system, a wireless charging pad and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

The list continues with the Live Cockpit Professional system (10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen), while the infotainment powered by BMW Operating System 9 comes with ConnectedDrive services and Connected Package Professional (support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay).

Both EVs also come with the Driving Assistant Plus package, which includes functions such as Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Speed Limit Info, Automatic Speed Limit Assist, Lane Departure Warning, autonomous emergency braking, and Active Cruise Control with stop and go.

Parking Assistant Plus is standard too, with Active Park Distance Control (front and rear parking sensors), Reversing Assistant, Lateral Parking Aid, a 360-degree camera as well as Drive Recorder and Remote Theft Recorder being included.

Seven colours are offered for the iX2, namely Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Skyscraper Grey, Cape York Green, Fire Red, M Portimau Blue, and M Brooklyn Grey. Each purchase is accompanied by an eight-year, 160,000-km battery warranty, roadside assistance and accident hotline as well as BMW Service Online. With more range, additional kit and a distinctive design, would you pay RM7,000 more to get the iX2 instead of the top-spec iX1?

At RM297,000 (or RM282,800 with the standard two-year vehicle warranty), the iX2 xDrive30 M Sport is RM7,000 more than the iX1 xDrive30 M Sport. For that premium, you get a coupe-like design which also brings with it slightly more range, plus more expressive exterior equipment. Worth it?

Pricing for the iX2 xDrive30 starts from RM282,800, while stepping up to the BMW Service and Repair Inclusive package with the full five-year warranty and service package is a RM14,200, which brings the total to RM297,000.

Powertrain for the iX2 xDrive30 is a dual-motor setup for all-wheel-drive, bringing a total of 313 hp and 494 Nm of torque. This propels the coupé-roofed electric crossover from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, and on to an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h.

AC charging is possible at up to 11 kW, which will bring the iX2’s battery from 0-100% in six hours and 30 minutes.

Inside, upholstery is ‘Veganza’ vegan leather that is offered in black M Alcantara with blue contrast stitching, perforated black, perforated Coral Red and black, perforated Atlas Grey and Smoke White combination, and perforated Mocha.

The iX2 gets infotainment that is powered by BMW Operating System 9, where the iDrive is equipped with the Intelligent Personal Assistant and the QuickSelect control system that is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

This brings a new home screen that offers quick access to frequently used functions as configurable live widgets, including BMW Maps, while Proactive Care offers the driver an overview of the vehicle’s service-related requirements.

  • BMW iX2 EV teased by BMW Malaysia – ROI open

BMW iX2 EV teased by BMW Malaysia – ROI open

BMW Malaysia has started a teaser campaign for the upcoming BMW iX2, kicking things off with a microsite stating it is coming soon on their website as long as an EDM that they blasted out to their marketing list today.

Not much details other than it is coming soon, but if you’re interested what is essentially a sportier coupe version of the BMW iX1, you can sign up here on their Registration of Interest page.

Unlike the BMW iX1 which also has its ICE-powered BMW X1 counterpart on sale in Malaysia, the ICE-powered BMW X2 does not appear anywhere on the BMW Malaysia site so far, which could indicate that the BMW iX2 could be offered as an electric-only model for this market.

The sole iX2 variant is the iX2 xDrive30. Two motors at either end combine for a total system output of 313 hp (230 kW, including temporary boost) and 494 Nm. 0-100 km/h is done in a brisk 5.6 seconds. The battery’s 64.8 kWh of usable energy provides WLTP-rated range of 417 to 449 km.

Inside, the BMW iX2 gets the BMW Curved Display made up of a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch central touchscreen. These are linked to the latest iDrive infotainment powered by BMW Operating System 9, which includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. The rest of cabin is familiar to those that have been in the latest X1 and iX1.

With the BMW iX1 priced at RM272k, how much do you think the premium will be for the sportier outlook that the BMW iX2 has?

2024 U10 BMW iX2 on display with up to 449 km EV range, 313 PS – joined by X2 M35i xDrive with 317 PS

Following its global debut earlier in October, the second-generation BMW X2 is now on display at the ongoing Japan Mobility Show. Pictured are two versions of the Sports Activity Coupe (SAC), namely the all-electric iX2 xDrive30 and the petrol-powered X2 M35i xDrive.

The former is a first for the X2 and features a dual-motor setup for all-wheel drive, with both front and rear electric motors rated at 190 PS (188 hp or 140 kW) and 247 Nm. Together, the total system output, including temporary boost, is 313 PS (308 hp or 230 kW) and 494 Nm. The specifications of the powertrain are as follows:

    • Electric motors output: 313 PS (308 hp or 230 kW) and 494 Nm with temporary boost
    • 0-100 km/h time: 5.6 seconds
    • Top speed: 180 km/h
    • Battery: 64.7 kWh lithium-ion
    • Range (WLTP): 417 to 449 km
    • AC charging: 11 kW; 0-100% in 6.5 hours; 22 kW optional
    • DC charging: 130 kW; 10-80% in 29 minutes

As for the petrol-powered variant, the X2 M35i xDrive leads the range as the M Performance offering with standard adaptive M suspension and optional M Compound brakes. The specifications of this variant are as follows:

    • Engine: 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol
    • Engine output: 300 PS (296 hp or 221 kW) in Europe, 317 PS (312 hp or 233 kW) in the US and other markets; 400 Nm
    • Transmission: Seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch with xDrive all-wheel drive system
    • 0-100 km/h: 5.4 seconds
    • Top speed: 250 km/h

Compared to the original X2, the new one boasts a radical redesign featuring a model-specific front end to differentiate it from the latest X1. The rear end is also pretty unique thanks to the taillights that are notched at the bottom a prominent spoiler lip on the rear deck. The all-new X2 is also a larger car than before with these dimensions:

    • Length: 4,554 mm (+194 mm)
    • Width: 1,845 mm (+21 mm)
    • Height: 1,590 mm (+64 mm)
    • Wheelbase: 2,692 mm (+22 mm)
    • Boot space: 525 to 1,400 litres (iX2 xDrive30), 560 to 1,470 litres (X2 M35i xDrive)

2024 U10 BMW iX2 on display with up to 449 km EV range, 313 PS – joined by X2 M35i xDrive with 317 PS

Inside, the X2 gets the BMW Curved Display made up of a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch central touchscreen. These are linked to the latest iDrive infotainment powered by BMW Operating System 9, which includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. The rest of cabin is familiar to those that have been in the latest X1.

Given BMW Malaysia’s rapid introduction of new electric vehicles (EVs) from the German carmaker, there’s a possibility that the iX2 could be introduced here to join the iX1 as a sportier-looking alternative. Enjoy these photos and let us know what you think of the latest X2 in the comments below.

  • 2024 BMW X2 and iX2 – U10 second-gen ‘X1 coupe’ gets X6 styling; EV version with up to 449 km range

    2024 BMW X2 and iX2 – U10 second-gen ‘X1 coupe’ gets X6 styling; EV version with up to 449 km range

This is the new 2024 BMW X2, and our first reaction to it is ‘Wow!’. Not because it’s particularly pretty, but because this sequel to the original F39 X2 from 2017 departs from the formula – unlike before, the X2 now follows the style of the X4 and X6, which means that it looks like a ‘coupe’ version of the latest U11 X1, just like how the X4/X6 are sloped-back twins to the mainline X3/X5.

But it’s not 100% an X1 save for the roofline. There’s a model-specific front end with unique LED headlights (Adaptive LEDs with matrix high beam optional) and an almost hexagonal kidney grille. The latter can be optioned with BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting, as seen on higher-end models like the i7 limo and G60 5 Series.

Compared to the original X2, which was sold here in limited CBU numbers, the car we see here has stretched lines and a generous surface treatment. The biggest differentiator is the roofline, which flows unbroken into the rear end for the typical SAC-look seen on the X4/X6. The X2’s rear end is pretty unique though, with tail lamps that are notched at the bottom and a prominent Gurney-style spoiler on the nearly existent deck.

Those new lines are housed within a footprint that is much larger than before – at 4,554 mm long and 1,845 mm wide, the new X2 is a significant 194 mm longer and 21 mm wider. The original was a pretty low car, and this one stands 64 mm taller at 1,590 mm. A longer wheelbase and wider tracks benefit cabin space, and boot space is up from 470L to 560L, expandable to 1,470L. The iX2 variant has cargo space of 525 to 1,400 litres – more on the EV later.

The petrol range is once again topped by the X2 M35i xDrive, which gets M-specific design cues such as quad pipes integrated into the rear apron. For the rest of the range, the popular M Sport package gets more aggressive front/rear bumpers. Opt for the M Sport package Pro and you’ll get extended M High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim, M lights Shadowline, an M rear spoiler and an M Sport braking system with red calipers, among other sporty things.

The X2 can be had in two solid and 11 metallic colours, including a new Fire Red metallic. Two ‘frozen’ matte options from BMW Individual are also available. The iX2’s base wheel is 17 inches in diameter, but ICE models ride on 18s. The M35i xDrive comes with 20-inch M light alloys and the option list has rims up to 21 inches in size – 21!

    2024 BMW X2 and iX2 – U10 second-gen ‘X1 coupe’ gets X6 styling; EV version with up to 449 km range

The interior is as per the latest X1, which is very nice in terms of the minimalist design and latest features for Munich. One gets the BMW Curved Display and a ‘floating’ armrest with gear selection (just a little notch), mode selection, e-brake and volume control. Ahead of this are two cup holders and a smartphone tray with illumination and wireless charging.

The seats can be wrapped in vegan Veganza perforated ‘leather’ or the usual Vernasca leather with quilting as alternatives to cloth upholstery. Options include sport seats, memory, lumbar and even a massage function. An interaction airbag between the driver’s seat and front passenger seat is now standard.

The starter petrol version is the X2 sDrive20i, which has a 1.5L turbo engine with 156 hp. The three-cylinder unit is helped by a 48V mild hybrid system with 19 hp for a total system output of 170 hp. Combined fuel consumption is 6.5 to 6.0 litres per 100 km. The 150 hp four-cylinder diesel X2 sDrive18d does just 5.5 to 5.1 litres/100 km. All ICE engines are paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch Steptronic transmission.

Meanwhile, the X2 M35i xDrive gets a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine with 300 hp in Europe and 317 hp in the US and other markets. This AWD M Performance car does 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and gets M-specific chassis tuning and standard adaptive M suspension, which features frequency-selective damping and comes with sport steering and a 15 mm drop in ride height. M Compound brakes are offered as an option. Interestingly, the new M35i is slower than the old one, which did the century sprint in 4.9 seconds.

The rest of the X2 range gets ‘targeted upgrades’ to the single-joint spring strut axle at the front and the three-link rear axle. Near-actuator wheel slip limitation is fitted as standard in the X2, benefiting both traction and directional stability, BMW says. Other new features include the integrated braking system and the extra, lift-related damping at the front axle.

New for this X2 is a fully-electric iX2 variant. Like the M Performance car, the EV will be part of the new X2 line-up from launch as an iX2 xDrive30. The set-up is two motors at either end for a total system output of 313 hp (230 kW, including temporary boost) and 494 Nm. 0-100 km/h is done in a brisk 5.6 seconds on the way to a 180 km/h max. The battery’s 64.8 kWh of usable energy provides WLTP-rated range of 417 to 449 km.

The iX2 gets adaptive recuperation, the Max Range ’emergency’ function and the latest version of the Max Performance Charging software.

Basically, MPC smoothens out the drop off in charging power (typical pattern shoots up to max upon plug-in before reducing gradually), which used to be stepped. Starting off at full charging power is also applicable at higher SOCs, and not just when near empty. These characteristics help you to get more juice in, more quickly. These are also found in the new i5, which review you can read here.

Last but not least, tech. The latest version of the BMW iDrive display and control/operation system featuring QuickSelect rapid-access is standard. Based on BMW Operating System 9, it is packaged together with the BMW Curved Display and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, which means you can control the car with both your finger and tongue (please, be serious!).

BMW OS9 paves the way for a customisable selection of additional digital services. Existing functions can be upgraded by means of the Remote Software Upgrades facility, which also makes it possible to add new functions in the future.

The Augmented View function is available as an optional add-on for the cloud-based BMW Maps navigation system. In addition to this, a Personal eSIM designed for 5G tech, BMW Digital Key Plus, BMW ID functionality and standard smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also all available.

The new X2 and iX2 will be produced on a single, flexible assembly line at BMW’s Regensburg plant, where the EV’s batteries are also made. The global market launch will start in March 2024, and a couple of months from there, a second iX2 variant and another diesel-engined X2 will join the range.

So, what do you think of the new BMW X2’s looks and package? Here’s a recap of the car it replaces, which looks very different indeed.
