When Honda Malaysia launched the sixth-generation CR-V in December, the price of the range-topping CR-V 2.0L e:HEV RS was not revealed. The company said that it would announce the CR-V Hybrid’s price in early 2024 and here you go – it’s RM195,900 on-the-road without insurance.
That makes the RS hybrid RM14k costlier than the highest pure ICE variant, the 1.5L Turbo V AWD at RM181,900. The 1.5L Turbo E is priced at RM169,900 while the base 1.5L Turbo S starts the range at RM159,900. The first 750 units of the S is being sold for RM157,900 to celebrate 20 years of CKD production of the CR-V in Malaysia.
The hybrid is powered by an Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) system similar to that seen on the Civic e:HEV RS, combining the workings of an electric motor and petrol engine. The latter is a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, which acts primarily as a generator.
By itself, the ICE offers 148 PS and 190 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. While the engine can provide direct drive – via a lock-up clutch – at higher speeds for better efficiency, it’s the electric motor that does most of the hauling work. The e-motor develops 184 PS and 335 Nm from zero to 2,000 rpm, the latter being 20 Nm more than on the Civic Hybrid.
Like with the Civic range, the e:HEV is the fastest to 100 km/h here, with a time of 9.0 seconds (base S is next fastest at 9.7 seconds). It looks racier than the rest too; RS trim brings with it badging, roof rails, body colour trim to replace the SUV’s black plastic, black side mirror covers and an active shutter grille. The 18-inch alloys are in gloss black and they have resonators to suppress road noise.
As for e:HEV RS-exclusive kit, there’s a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, head-up display, key card and Adaptive Driving Beam for the LED headlights. For more on the new CR-V, read our launch report and first drive report.
Honda Malaysia (HM) pulled the wraps off the 2024 Honda CR-V last week, and the sixth-generation SUV looks very different from the outgoing model – sharper and more macho to these eyes. There’s a list of new-to-HM kit, as well as a fresh hybrid variant for the benchmark C-segment SUV.
Four variants are available in our market – three turbocharged petrol grades (2.0L NA base variant dropped), topped by an RS hybrid. The Turbo S kicks off the range at RM159,900, while the mid-spec Turbo E is exactly RM10k more at RM169,900. The Turbo V AWD goes for RM181,900, on-the-road without insurance.
HM is celebrating 20 years of CKD production of the CR-V in Malaysia; as such the base S variant will be priced at an introductory RM157,900 for the first 750 units. Pricing for the top 2.0L e:HEV RS hybrid variant will be announced early next year.
The 1.5T variants are powered by the same L15BE VTEC turbo unit from the fifth-gen, pushing out 193 PS at 6,000 rpm and 243 Nm of torque from 1,700 to 5,000 rpm. Honda says that the revs at which both max power and torque arrive have been altered as a result of some minor revisions to improve acceleration response and quietness. Previously, max power came at 5,600 rpm, while peak torque was delivered from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm.
The familiar CVT gearbox has also been given some tweaks to reduce noise and vibration. Performance-wise, the base S does 0-100 km/h in 9.7 seconds, while the E is a tenth slower at 9.8 seconds. The V AWD does it in 10.4 seconds. All three petrol versions have the same top speed – 200 km/h.
The e:HEV hybrid is powered by an Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) system similar to that seen on the Civic e:HEV RS. The ICE is a 2.0L naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle engine, which acts primarily as a generator. The four-cylinder engine offers 148 PS and 190 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. There’s direct drive – via a lock-up clutch – at higher speeds for better efficiency, but it’s the electric motor doing most of the work.
The e-motor develops 184 PS and 335 Nm, the latter being 20 Nm more than on the Civic FE. The FWD hybrid is the fastest accelerating CR-V, managing the 0-100 km/h in 9.0 seconds. Top speed is 187 km/h.
The new CR-V is 4,691 mm long, 1,866 mm wide and 1,681 mm tall, making it 68 mm longer, 11 mm wider and two mm taller than its predecessor. Wheelbase has also grown by 40 mm to 2,700 mm. The interior is very different from before, but Civic owners will recognise the design. As mentioned, this is the best-equipped CR-V to date and the kit list includes things such as a 12-speaker Bose audio system, Adaptive Driving Beam and a 360-degree camera, among other things.

The sixth-generation Honda CR-V was launched in Malaysia recently, and is being offered in four variants, three of which are turbocharged and available with official on-the-road pricing without insurance. As for the fourth member of the line-up, it is an e:HEV hybrid that will only get a price tag in early 2024. Here’s a breakdown of your options for now:

We should point out that the entry-level S variant is being offered at an introductory price of RM157,900 for the first 750 units to celebrate 20 years of CKD production of the CR-V in Malaysia, so you’ll need to hurry to get one at an immediate RM2,000 discount.
In terms of powertrains, the S, E and V variants all share the same setup that consists of a 1.5L VTEC Turbo engine paired with an Earth Dreams CVT. Only the V gets all-wheel drive, with the S and E being front-wheel drive instead. Here are the specifications of the turbocharged variants:

As for the 2.0L e:HEV RS variant, we mentioned that official pricing will only be available in early 2024. The hybrid setup is similar to the one in the Civic e:HEV RS, incorporating Honda’s Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) system.
This sees a 2.0 litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine act primarily as a generator that charges a battery, which then powers a front-mounted electric motor. However, at higher speeds where it is more efficient to do so, the engine can directly drive the front wheels through a lock-up clutch. The specifications of the CR-V’s hybrid powertrain is as follows:

All variants of the CR-V come with electric power steering with variable gear ratio, enabling a turning radius of six metres. Also standard are front MacPherson struts, a rear multi-link setup, front ventilated brake discs, rear solid brake discs and an electric parking brake.
Equipment-wise, standard items for all CR-Vs include automatic LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, front LED sequential turn signals and LED rear combination taillights. Variant-specific items include LED front fog lamps, which are standard for the E, V and RS, along with a hands-free powered tailgate. The range-topping hybrid is the only one with rear fog lamps, active cornering lights as well as an active shutter grille in the front.
As for the rest of the kit list, the S comes with 17-inch alloy wheels (235/65 profile tyres), remote engine start, walk away auto lock, keyless entry and start, Econ and Sport drive modes, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, a urethane steering wheel, fabric seat upholstery, a seven-inch TFT instrument cluster display, a seven-inch Display Audio head unit (with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), eight speakers, Honda Connect telematics and Active Noise Control.
Safety and driver assistance equipment for the S is also pretty comprehensive, with seven airbags, all-seat seatbelt reminder, VSA, Agile Handing Assist, ABS, EBD, auto brake hold, hill start assist, hill descent control, four rear reverse sensors and a multi-angle reverse camera all being standard.
The base variant also gets Honda Sensing, with standard systems being forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking system (autonomous emergency braking), lane keep assist, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, auto high beam, lead car departure alert and a driver attention monitor.
Stepping up to the E nets you 18-inch alloys (235/60 profile tyres), paddle shifters, powered front seats with memory function, automatic wipers, a 15W wireless charging pad, leather seat upholstery and steering wheel, a nine-inch Advanced Display Audio system (with wireless AA and AC), four front parking sensors and Honda’s LaneWatch side camera system.
The V builds upon the E by adding interior ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system. At the top of the heap, the V’s 18-inch alloys come in black instead of silver and feature a resonator to reduce road noise. The range-topper also gets a key card, a head-up display, a Sport drive mode, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, sport pedals, a Bose 12-speaker sound system, adaptive headlamps and Active Sound Control.

The CR-V is available in five colours, including Canyon River Blue Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Ignite Red Metallic and Platinum White Pearl, the last of which will cost you an additional RM600.
A five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty is included with each purchase along with free labour service applicable up to five times within 100,000 km or five years. For the hybrid variant, there’s also an eight-year, unlimited-mileage warranty for the lithium-ion hybrid battery. Honda Malaysia has officially launched the 2024 Honda CR-V, with the sixth-generation SUV making its local debut earlier today. As indicated in our preview post earlier this month, the new CR-V goes on sale here in four variant grades, three of which are turbocharged petrol units and the fourth, a hybrid.
Let’s get to the variant designations and their pricing (all on-the-road, without insurance). The R20 2.0L i-VTEC naturally-aspirated engine, last seen on the entry-level 2WD variant on the fifth-gen facelift, has been dropped from the model line-up, and so the new CR-V range in Malaysia consists of the:

You’ll notice that the CR-V 2.0L e:HEV RS isn’t mentioned in the price grouping. That’s because the company says that the pricing for the hybrid will be announced early next year.
The 1.5L S, 1.5L E and 1.5L V AWD all feature the 1.5L VTEC turbo from before. As in the fifth-gen, the L15BE DOHC turbo four-pot’s output numbers remain unchanged, with 193 PS (190 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 243 Nm from 1,700 to 5,000 rpm, but the revs at which both power and torque arrive have been altered as a result of some minor revisions to improve acceleration response and make the unit quieter. Previously, maximum power came at 5,600 rpm, while peak torque was delivered from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm.
The mill remains paired to the familiar Earth Dreams CVT, but the unit has also been given some tweaks to reduce noise and vibration. Performance-wise, the base S takes 9.7 seconds to do the 0-100 km/h sprint, while the E is a fraction slower at 9.8 seconds. Meanwhile, the V AWD takes 10.4 seconds to accomplish the same feat. All three petrol versions have the same maximum top speed, which is 200 km/h.

While the mill can provide direct drive – via a lock-up clutch – at higher speeds for better efficiency, it’s the electric motor that does almost all the hauling work.
In terms of output, the e-motor develops 184 PS (181 hp, or 135 kW) at 5,000 to 8,000 rpm and 335 Nm from zero to 2,000 rpm, the latter being 20 Nm more than on the Civic. Like with the Civic range, the e:HEV is the fastest to 100 km/h from standstill, taking 9.0 seconds to manage that run. It however has a lower top speed of 187 km/h.
In Thailand, the hybrid CR-V is available in both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions, but for our market the CR-V e:HEV is offered only in its two-wheel drive configuration, with power sent to the front wheels via an electric continuously variable transmission (e-CVT).
Additionally, the RS specification for the Malaysian model is unique, not just because it’s the first time the grade is being found on the model, but because the RS trim level is only for the AWD in Thailand, with the 2WD for that market being an ES version.
Size-wise, the new CR-V measures in at 4,691 mm long, 1,866 mm wide and 1,681 mm tall, making it 68 mm longer, 11 mm wider and two mm taller than its predecessor (4,623 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,679 mm tall on the facelift) in its Malaysian specification. The SUV’s wheelbase has also grown by 40 mm to 2,700 mm.
As noted in our review of the new CR-V, the increased dimensions don’t really come across visually at first glance when you compare both old and new directly side-by-side, given that the fifth-gen has more perceived volume in its shape, especially dead on from the front and rear. Look closer, and it is, with things led by an extended bonnet line.
This presents the new car with a flatter-looking nose like the HR-V, while a strong shoulder line really tightens up the side profile. The narrower light assemblies at both front and rear help project that tautness, and with cleaner line depictions, the net result is a SUV that looks a bit Continental in its depiction.
Externally, the CR-V comes equipped with LED auto headlights, LED daytime running lights, front LED sequential turn signals and LED rear combination lights as standard across the model range, and all variants also get body-coloured door handles and a shark fin antenna (body coloured on the turbo versions, and in black on the hybrid).
The 1.5L E variant adds LED front fog lamps and a hands-free powered tailgate with walk-away close function, while the V AWD gets chrome tailpipe finishers. As for the RS, it adds on RS badging, roof rails, black-coloured side mirror covers and an active shutter grille.
As for wheels, there are three versions, with the base S variant riding on a sporty looking 17-inch five double-spoke unit (with 235/65 tyres) finished in Sparkle Silver, while the E and V share the same 18-inch unit. This is also a five double-spoke design, again in silver, but differently styled. Completing the trio is the unit on the e:HEV RS, a similarly-themed 18-incher, but finished in gloss black and equipped with a resonator to suppress road noise. Tyres on all the 18-inch units are 235/60 profile Toyo Proxes R45, the same unit that was original fitment on the fifth-gen RW here.
Inside, you’ll find a dashboard styled along the lines of that of the Civic FE, which modernises the CR-V’s interior significantly. As with the Civic, the presentation includes a clean-running dash fascia, a three-spoke steering wheel, full-width mesh-covered air vents and a freestanding infotainment touchscreen, which on the base S is a seven-inch Display Audio unit.
Standard fit items and features on the CR-V include remote engine start, walk-away auto lock function, dual-zone air-conditioning with rear AC vents, cruise control, mechanically-adjustable rear seats (sliding and seat back tilt, the latter offering eight angle positions) and, on the petrol units, a 7.0-inch TFT semi-digital instrument display with an analogue speedometer. The hybrid RS is the only variant to feature a 10.25-inch full digital instrument display.
We’ve listed out the grade specific kit in detail further below, but here’s a quick rundown of some of the items you’ll find. The base 1.5 S gets black fabric seats, an urethane steering wheel and manual adjustment front seats. From the E on, the upholstery and steering wheel is dressed in leather, and a nine-inch Advanced Display Audio touchscreen infotainment unit goes in place.
As for interior trim, there base S features black honeycomb pattern panel inserts on the dashboard and door cards, while the E and V AWD have dark brown wood-grain inserts. Meanwhile, the e:HEV comes with aluminium-finish silver accent inserts, complete with gloss black surrounds, and there’s plenty of red contrast stitching to be found, on the upholstery, steering wheel, gear shift lever cover and on the door cards.
Additionally, the RS is also the only model to feature a 12-speaker Bose Premium audio system, marking the first time a branded sound system is being used on a model here. The variant is also the only one to get Adaptive Driving Beam for its LED headlights.

Like in Thailand, Honda Sensing is standard across the model range in Malaysia. The list remains familiar, but improvements have come about to the suite of safety and driver assistance systems, including the introduction of a new 90-degree field of view camera and 120-degree field of view millimetre-wave radar as well as improved response to the adaptive cruise and lane keeping assist systems.
The automaker’s LaneWatch side camera system continues to be featured in place of a blind-spot monitor, although the base S doesn’t come with it. Of note is the inclusion of Honda Connect telematics with phone app on all CR-V variants.
As for exterior colours, five are available for the CR-V, with Canyon River Blue Metallic being a new shade. The other four colours are Ignite Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl (a RM600 option), Lunar Silver Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl. A Modulo bodykit package is also available for the SUV, as are a number of accessories packages.
Practicality has been a term long associated with the Honda CR-V, with its space and usability leading the way in for many buyers. In more recent times, technology has been added to the repertoire, but in an age where packaging is key, those cards will only get you so far.
Visual appeal has never really been the SUV’s forte. In its early life, functionality preceded form, and it wasn’t until the third-gen RE that efforts to refine it came about, curvy as the direction was. The fourth outing, the RM, looked lost. The fifth iteration, the outgoing RW, clawed its way back into the game, but it wasn’t really because of its shape.
The thing is, the RW wasn’t a phenomenal leap from the fourth-gen RM in terms of styling, despite looking edgier. Introducing turbocharging as well as driver-assist tech into the equation made for a strong pitch, one that buyers happily lapped up, this household included, making the switch from a 2011 third-gen to the fifth-gen in 2018.
Ahead of the sixth-generation Honda CR-V‘s Malaysian launch, which is expected later this month, Honda Malaysia has been previewing the SUV via a series of customer showcases at selected dealerships across the country. The previews, which started in the East Coast late last month, finally arrived in the central region over the weekend, and it was here that we caught up with the Malaysian-spec models.
As with the HR-V and WR-V previews in the past, the vehicles were shown behind a draped area, with no photography allowed. While only two models in the line-up were shown, the viewing confirmed that we will be getting four variant grades of the new CR-V for our market, with the range consisting of a 1.5L S, 1.5L E, 1.5L V AWD and a range-topping 2.0L e:HEV RS, the nomenclatures mirroring that of the HR-V range.
The company has finally discontinued the 2.0L i-VTEC naturally-aspirated engine, last seen on the entry-level 2WD variant on the fifth-gen facelift, which means the Malaysian CR-V line-up is now available only in turbocharged or hybrid forms.
The 1.5L S, 1.5L E and 1.5L V AWD are petrol turbo units, utilising the 1.5L VTEC Turbo from the fifth-gen, carried over largely unchanged. As such, the L15BE DOHC VTEC turbo four-pot continues on with 193 PS (190 hp) at 5,600 rpm and 243 Nm from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm. The partnering transmission remains the familiar Earth Dreams CVT.
As for the top-of-the-line hybrid, it’s powered by an Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) system, similar to that seen on the Civic e:HEV RS, combining the workings of an electric motor and petrol engine. The latter is a 2.0 litre naturally-aspirated Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, which acts primarily as a generator.
No numbers for the MY-spec DI mill, but in Thailand the unit offers 148 PS (146 hp) at 6,100 rpm and 183 Nm of torque by itself. The final figure for our car may be different, as highlighted via the Civic e:HEV -here, the mill offers 143 PS (141 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 189 Nm of torque, marginally higher than that of the Thailand-spec version (141 PS and 182 Nm), due to our better fuel quality.

While the hybrid CR-V is available in both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive guise in Thailand, Malaysia will be getting the e:HEV in its two-wheel drive configuration, and so drive is sent to the front wheels via an electric continuously variable transmission (e-CVT).
The RS specification for the Malaysian model is unique, not just because it’s the first time the grade is being found on the model, but because the RS trim level is only for the AWD in Thailand, the 2WD for that market being an ES version.
The previews showcased the 2.0L e:HEV RS hybrid and 1.5L V AWD turbo variants, which offered a closer look at various new-to-model features. These include mechanically adjustable rear seats (fore-aft, seatback tilt), Qi wireless charging (from E onwards) and an Active Shutter Grille (RS only). From the V on, there’s a driver seat memory function, a 360-degree camera and a Honda key card, while the RS adds on a HUD.
While the 1.5L E and 1.5L S have yet to be sighted and their specs fully revealed, we can tell you that the base 1.5 S will come with fabric seats, a 7.0-inch TFT display screen in its instrument panel, a 7.0-inch infotainment central display and will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels.
From the E on, the upholstery is leather, presented in black, and a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment unit goes in place. Like on the Civic, both the E and V get a seven-inch semi-digital instrument cluster, with the speedometer being analogue. The hybrid RS is the only variant to feature a 10.25-inch full digital instrument display.

From the E, the CR-V rides on 18-inch five double-spoke units, finished in silver for the E and V, while the RS is shod with Berlina Black gloss units. Tyres on all the 18-inch units are 235/60 profile Toyo Proxes R45, the same unit that was original fitment on the fifth-gen RW here.
As for interior trim, all three petrol versions, including the AWD, get dark-wood panel inserts on the dashboard and door cards, while the RS gets aluminium-finish silver accent inserts with gloss black surrounds. Additionally, the RS gets red contrast stitching on the upholstery, steering wheel, gear shift lever cover and on the door cards.
Meanwhile, the headliner for the petrol variants are in light grey, while that on the RS is in black.
Additionally, the RS is also the only model to feature a 12-speaker Bose audio system, marking the first time a branded sound system is being used on a model here. The variant is also the only one to get Adaptive Driving Beam for its LED headlights.
Canyon River Blue Metallic exterior, Thailand-spec CR-V.
Present on the V AWD was a hands-free power tailgate and the automaker’s LaneWatch side camera system, and the latter should be available across the model range. In Thailand, Honda Sensing is standard across the board, and barring any surprises, that should also be the case here. The hybrid RS will also feature Honda Connect telematics with phone app.
As for exterior colours, five will be available here, with the palette led by a new Canyon River Blue Metallic. Unlike Thailand, the particular colour isn’t just for the e:HEV hybrid, given that the V AWD at the preview was finished in the dark blue shade. The other four colours are Ignite Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl.
While there’s still no official indication of pricing, we hear from reliable sources that prices of the petrol CR-V range is expected to be in the “RM160k plus to RM180k” zone, which, should be this the case, would mean a marginal increase from the RM165,800 to RM170,400 seen on the facelift turbo variants. No word on what the e:HEV will go for, but as mentioned previously, it could well breach the RM200k mark. We’ll know in a few weeks.

With the order books having been opened for it earlier this month, it won’t be long before the sixth-generation Honda CR-V makes its Malaysian market debut, with the new SUV slated to be launched sometime in December.
Revealed in July last year, the latest iteration of the Comfortable Runabout Vehicle features quite a bit of a styling departure from the outgoing car, which has been around since 2016 and locally, from mid-2017, with a facelift coming in 2020. As can be seen from the brief side-by-side comparison with the fifth-gen, it’s a more conventionally-styled offering, its shape sharper and squarer, and lines cleaner.
At 4,694 mm long and 1,865 mm wide, the new CR-V is 71 mm longer and 10 mm wider than the SUV it replaces, while wheelbase has grown by 40 mm to 2,700 mm. At the front, you’ll find a longer bonnet, which presents a flatter-looking nose, while the rear has Volvo-esque shades, with the inner tail lights giving the tail a bit of a BMW-ish resemblance when viewed dead-on centre, especially when the exterior is presented in darker tones.
Away from the bolder, more matured exterior, there’s quite a bit of new-to-Honda (and model specific) features, but the biggest news is the addition of a hybrid variant to the line-up for the first time. The turbocharged 1.5 litre is set to be retained, but the hybrid will now sit at the top of the model range here.
While the hybrid CR-V is available in both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive guise (as seen in Thailand), Malaysia will be getting the e:HEV in its two-wheel drive form. As highlighted in the teaser image earlier this month, it will be available here as an RS variant, unlike in Thailand, where the RS trim level is only for the on-demand AWD, with the 2WD for that market an ES version. As before, we will also only be getting the five-seat version for our market.

The i-MMD powertrain in the e:HEV model is similar to that on the Civic e:HEV, with the 2.0L e:HEV offering 184 PS and 335 Nm of torque, the latter 20 Nm more than on the Civic. Power is delivered to the wheels via an eCVT.
As for the 1.5L VTEC Turbo, it’s carried over from the fifth-gen unchanged. As such, the L15BE DOHC VTEC turbo four-pot continues on with 193 PS (190 hp) at 5,600 rpm and 243 Nm from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm. Ditto the choice of partnering transmission, an Earth Dreams CVT.
Available variants haven’t been revealed, but we expect there to be four, consisting of three 1.5 turbos, one of which will be an AWD version, and the range-topping e:HEV hybrid. Likewise, full specs haven’t been listed, but as mentioned in the booking post, the e:HEV will be equipped with full LED headlights and tail lights, LED front fog lights, and front LED sequential turn signals.
The RS will also come with ‘sleek door handles’, Berlina Black 18-inch alloys and an Active Shutter Grille on the front lower bumper to aid aerodynamics. Additionally, it will feature a 12-speaker Bose audio system, marking a first for the brand here, as well as a 360-degree camera.
Also present is the Honda Sensing ADAS suite and Honda Connect telematics with phone app, along with a hands-free powered tailgate, which has a walk-away close function.
No indication of prices yet, but you can expect the new CR-V to be pricier than the current fifth-gen facelift, which is priced from RM165,800 to RM170,400 for the turbo engine (the 2.0L NA base model, which is priced below RM150k, will be discontinued). This is especially so in the case of the e:HEV RS – we could well be looking at the range-topper taking the CR-V past the RM200k mark. We’ll know soon enough if that’s the case.

The sixth-generation Honda CR-V is now open for booking at all 101 dealerships nationwide. Honda Malaysia (HM) says that the SUV will be launched in December.
Plenty of new-to-Honda (and CR-V) features, but the biggest news is that we’re getting a hybrid model for the first time. The 2.0L e:HEV makes 184 PS and 335 Nm of torque and is mated to an eCVT. This is 20 Nm more than in the Civic e:HEV. The 1.5L VTEC Turbo option remains, with 193 PS, 243 Nm and a CVT. There’s also ‘Real Time AWD’. Powertrain wise, it’s between turbo or hybrid, like in Thailand.
As you can see from the image above, the CR-V is available in the top, sporty RS trim level for the first time. The RS’s front grille has a bold mesh pattern, and HM says it’s equipped with full LED headlights and tail lights, LED front fog lights, and front LED sequential turn signals (we’re not sure all these LED lighting are RS exclusives).

The RS also comes with ‘sleek door handles’, Berlina Black 18-inch alloys and an Active Shutter Grille on the front lower bumper to aid aerodynamics.
Other highlighted features are a 12-speaker Bose audio system (branded audio is a first for HM, even the FL5 Civic Type R at RM400k doesn’t get the option) and a 360-degree camera. The latter is a step up from HM’s usual multi-view reverse camera. As expected, the Honda Sensing ADAS suite and Honda Connect telematics with phone app are present, along with hands-free power tailgate with walkaway close.
No indication of prices yet, but the current fifth-generation CR-V facelift is priced from RM165,800 to RM170,400 for the turbo engine (there’s a 2.0L NA base model that ducks below RM150k; this will be discontinued). Add in e:HEV, RS and the new features mentioned above and the price of the range-topper could well be around RM200k. The e:HEV RS in Thailand is priced at 1,729,000 baht, which is RM227,181.

The sixth-generation Honda CR-V has been spied once again doing road trials, this time by our in-house staff. Our photographer Sherman Sim, together with colleague Natasha Gill, happened to come across the SUV, still fully camouflaged, whilst on the road in Putrajaya near the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), and managed to get snaps of the car.
Interestingly, there are no trade plates to be seen on the test mule – could it be undergoing JPJ vehicle type approval? We figure that even with VTA evaluation, there should still be some form of identification, so that’s kind of strange.
The latest sighting follows on that from last month, and the increasing frequency of the vehicle means only one thing, that it’s getting ever closer to its market introduction. Back in March, Honda Malaysia announced that would be launching four new models this year, and the CR-V would be one of these. With less than four months to go, we could be looking at a market debut quite soon.
The new CR-V, which made its global debut in July last year, is slightly larger than the fifth-gen model it will replace. The increased dimensions bring about a more spacious cabin, with rear legroom enhanced by an additional 15 mm.
The cabin presentation largely mimics that of the current 11th-gen Civic, with a larger centre console that allows the gear lever to be placed side-by-side with the drive mode selector, hill descent control button and electronic parking brake switch.
No indication of kit and specifications for the Malaysian car, but it should largely mirror that seen in Thailand, where it is available in two powertrain guises.
The first is a 1.5L turbo petrol unit with 190 hp at 6,000 rpm and 242 of torque from 1,700 rpm to 5,000 rpm, while the other is a 207 PS and 315 Nm 2.0 litre hybrid with an i-MMD powertrain configuration similar to that on the Civic e:HEV. While the CR-V is available in five- and seven-seat forms in Thailand, the latter is unlikely to be sold here.
First sighted early this year and then again last month, the sixth-generation Honda CR-V has been spied once more doing road trials. Reader Johnson Ng spotted the SUV, still in full camouflage, on the way up to Genting Highlands, and managed to snap a couple of photos of the car.
It won’t be long before the all-new CR-V makes its Malaysian debut. Given that we’re already near the tail end of the third quarter of the year, a market debut should be on the cards sometime in the fourth quarter.

Thailand provides the clue as to what we can expect to come our way in terms of powertrains and specifications. Launched in March this year, the Thai-market CR-V is available with two powertrain options. The first is a 1.5L turbo petrol unit, which produces 190 hp at 6,000 rpm and 242 of torque from 1,700 rpm to 5,000 rpm, mated to a continuously variable transmission.
The other is a hybrid with an i-MMD powertrain configuration similar to that on the Civic e:HEV, with a 2.0 litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with an e-CVT paired with two electric motors yielding a total system output of 207 PS and 315 Nm of torque.
In Thailand, the CR-V is available in both five- and seven-seat options, but it’s very likely that we won’t be seeing the seven-seater coming our way. In any case, we’ll know soon enough.
The sixth-generation Honda CR-V has received a five-star safety rating from the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP). This is the third time the CR-V is being assessed, with the latest model being subjected to the more comprehensive 2021-2025 protocol.
According to the official report, the CR-V variant tested was an EL 4WD from Thailand, with the results being applicable to all other variants sold in Thailand as well as Indonesia. We should also expect safety rating to apply to the Malaysian model when it makes its launch debut here sometime this year.
In the adult occupant protection category, the CR-V scored 31.45 out of 32 possible points, while child occupant protection saw it collect 45.81 out of 51 points. With autonomous emergency braking, auto high beam and other driver assistance systems being widely available or offered as an option across all variants, the SUV also registered 19.50 out of 21 points in the safety assist category. As for the motorcyclist safety category, it scored 9.05 out of 16 points.
With weighting adjustments, the final overall score achieved is 87.16 points, which is enough to warrant a five-star rating. “ASEAN NCAP is proud that the CR-V has consistently provide additional safety features to the consumers. This is further strengthened with the availability of the offered safety features in all the available countries across the ASEAN region either as standard or optional fitment,” read an official release by ASEAN NCAP.
The sixth-generation Honda CR-V made its global debut almost exactly one year ago, and was launched for the Thailand market in March this year at the 2023 Bangkok International Motor Show. Now, it appears that the SUV is likely launching in Malaysia soon, as a camouflaged example has been sighted once again, this time in Gemencheh, Negeri Sembilan.

The fifth-generation CR-V was launched in Malaysia in July 2017, and the facelift arrived in November 2020. This current model is on sale in Malaysia from RM146,900 for the base 2.0L 2WD variant, and the four-variant range is topped by the 1.5L TC-P 4WD at RM171,400.

We’re reporting live from the Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) for the first time since 2019, and it’s good to be back after the world, and our regional motor show coverage, paused for the pandemic. Kicking things off at Impact Muang Thong Thani this year is the all-new 2023 Honda CR-V, which is now launched for the Thailand market.
The sixth generation of the household name SUV is a looker in the metal, looking more square and strong than the fifth-generation CR-V that first surfaced in late 2016 (Malaysian launch was in July 2017; we had the facelift in November 2020). The more macho appearance is contributed by a straight shoulder line and a flat bonnet, which is joined to a bluff nose and a large hexagonal grille.
On top variants, the grille mesh is a supersized honeycomb. The rear has hints of Volvo (not a bad thing at all) and distinctive LED signatures. What do you think of the new CR-V’s looks versus the old one, and when compared to the more organic Mazda CX-5? By the way, the blue car you see here is an RS, and it’s the first time the CR-V is getting the sporty trim level we already know from the City, Civic and HR-V.

Honda’s midsize SUV has always been much more spacious inside than its wheelbase suggests, thanks to signature clever packaging, and this one is no different.
By the way, the Thai market has a seven-seat option with two small seats in a third row. Not many customers are expected to go for the seven-seater, and only one variant (out of five) has the extra seats. Speaking of options, only the base Turbo E is 2WD, the other four variants have the on-demand ‘Real Time AWD’ – perhaps the local market here puts high emphasis on SUVs having all-wheel drive.
As mentioned, there are five variants and prices might be higher than some expect. Locally assembled here in Thailand, the 2023 CR-V starts from the 1.5 Turbo E 2WD at 1,419,000 baht, which is equivalent to RM186,478. Next up is the 1.5 Turbo ES 4WD at 1,599,000 baht (RM210,133) and the 1.5 Turbo EL 4WD 7-seater at 1,649,000 baht (RM216,724).
These variants are powered by the now familiar Honda 1.5 litre turbo engine, which pushes out 190 hp at 6,000 rpm and 242 Nm of torque at 1,700 to 5,000 rpm. As with all new cars in the Land of Smiles, it accepts E85 biofuel. By the way, our current CR-V’s 1.5L turbo unit is rated at 193 PS and 243 Nm from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm. The CVT gearbox is also a known quantity.
The other two variants are hybrids – the e:HEV ES 4WD at 1,589,000 baht (RM208,839) and the range-topping e:HEV RS 4WD at 1,729,000 baht (RM227,239). The i-MMD powertrain in the e:HEV model is similar to that on the Civic e:HEV, with a 2.0 litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine and e-CVT working together with two electric motors for a total system output of 204 hp (207 PS) and 371 Nm from 0 to 2,000 rpm.
The exterior kit list includes LED headlamps and daytime running lights, sequential LED front turn signals, LED front fog lamps, LED tail lamps, electric side mirrors with repeaters and automatic folding, panoramic electric sunroof, walk away auto close (includes tailgate), front/rear parking sensors and 18-inch alloys.
The top RS variant adds on body-coloured and gloss black trim where black plastic and chrome normally reside, in addition to RS badges at the front and back. The door mirror caps and shark fin antenna are also in black, in addition to a rear spoiler and 19-inch two-tone alloys. The headlamps are Adaptive Driving Beam items that are essentially high beam all the time but blocks out oncoming cars.
Inside, the new CR-V gets a Civic FE-style dashboard with a 9.0-inch touch screen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (plus voice commands), a 10.2-inch digital meter panel (except for the base E), wireless charger and steering paddle shifters, among other things. The RS gets luxuries such as a head-up display, 12-speaker Bose sound system and built-in navigation.
For the Thai market, the RS gets aluminium-style silver trim while the others come with a dark wood-style inserts. The sporty one also has red stitching on the leather seats and RS animation when starting the car, as per current RS models.
Honda Sensing is standard across the board, as is Honda LaneWatch. As for colours, the standout shade is Canyon River Blue Metallic, which is reserved for e:HEV hybrid variants. Ignite Red Metallic is a signature RS colour reserved for the range-topper. The other colours are Platinum White Pearl, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl.
So, the CR-V range starts from RM186,478 to RM227,239 in Thailand now. Our current fifth-generation CR-V facelift is priced from RM165,800 to RM170,400 for the turbo engine (there’s a 2.0L NA base model that ducks below RM150k). Just like D-segment sedans moving from the previous to current generation, perhaps +/- RM200k is the new normal for big (for us) SUVs? We’ll see when the new CR-V lands in Malaysia later this year.

Honda Thailand has announced that the sixth-generation Honda CR-V will make its debut in the Kingdom on March 22 at the Bangkok International Motorshow (BIMS) 2023. Aside from a couple of teaser images, the announcement also revealed some details of the variants that will be offered in that market.
Two powertrain choices will be available for the SUV in Thailand, these being an RS specification e:HEV hybrid with a 2.0 litre engine and a petrol variant, which will feature a 1.5 litre VTEC Turbo mill, with front-wheel drive and AWD options continuing to be offered. The company provided some initial specifications for both.
The powertrain in the e:HEV model is similar to that on the Civic e:HEV, with a 2.0 litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine and e-CVT working together with two electric motors for a total system output of 204 hp (207 PS) and 371 Nm from 0–2,000 rpm.
Kit-wise, it will feature 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps with projector-lens high beam, LED front fog lamps, a gloss black front grille with RS badging as well as body-coloured lower front/rear bumper inserts and side skirts. The side mirror covers will also be body-coloured.
As for the 1.5 Turbo model, no changes to the output, with the blown four-pot continuing to offer 190 hp (or 193 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 242 Nm from 1,700 to 5,000 rpm, with the only changes being the revs at maximum output compared to the fifth-gen. It continues to be partnered with an Earth Dreams CVT.
Standard specs for the Turbo include 18-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust tips, a Honda Sensing safety suite and all-round camera view. Elsewhere, the automaker’s LaneWatch blind spot camera has been retained, and the Turbo makes do with black-coloured for its front/rear bumper lower inserts and side skirts.

The presence of the e:HEV provides a hint that we can likely expect the hybrid to be coming our way when the SUV makes its local debut, positioned as the range-topping version, like with the Civic range. As to when the all-new CR-V will arrive here, we could be looking at an introduction in the not-too-distant future, given that heavily-camouflaged test mules have recently been sighted in the Klang Valley.

A blur image of a camouflaged SUV emerges, though this one is just about clear enough to show that it is the 2023 Honda CR-V that has been sighted around Putrajaya in Malaysia. In addition to this sighting, the latest CR-V was also sighted by paultan.org reader jack0 near the Sungai Besi toll plaza this morning, shown in its side profile in the second image below.
