ACE 2024 – 581 cars worth RM84.6m sold in two days!

The paultan.org Auto Car Expo (ACE) 2024 – co-sponsored by Carro and Time Energy’s Emit Solar – happened over the weekend of October 26-27, and it was a hugely successful two days of car buying and selling at the Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC).

How successful? In just two days, 581 cars worth RM84.6 million were sold at ACE 2024. This makes it a record for an auto sales show organised by paultan.org, beating the previous high of 561 cars sold worth RM80.5 million, posted at the inaugural ACE in 2021. Aside from the deals sealed, prospects were gained and seeds were planted, so to speak.

We’ve been doing shows like this since PACE 2018 and it has proven to be good formula. With a trend of strong and consistent footfall, brands are choosing to debut new models at ACE, PACE and EVx.

At ACE 2024, Proton opened order books of the eMas 7 and showed off the electric SUV’s interior for the first time, while MG gave the sexy Cyberster its public debut. We are not at liberty to announce the numbers, but both EVs recorded a healthy number of bookings.

Many new models that were recently launched in Malaysia were displayed at ACE 2024, and test drives were available, so carbuyers were able to sample and compare between rivals, all under one roof, with the best deals in town, without having to travel from showroom to showroom.

By the way, all marketing and promotions for ACE 2024 were done solely on paultan.org and our social media, which means that the visitors and buyers are followers of this website. Anecdotal, but we often hear from exhibitors and sales personnel that many of you who came to SCCC know your cars well, and knew exactly what you were looking for too. Why are we not surprised…

It was a fruitful weekend for all of us at paultan.org and Driven, and we would like to thank all ACE 2024 visitors for the support, as well as our exhibitors BYD, Perodua, Proton, Pro-Net (Proton eMas) Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi, MG, Volkswagen, Auto Bavaria (BMW, MINI, BMW Motorrad), Hap Seng Star (Mercedes-Benz), Sime Darby Swedish Auto and Sisma Auto (Volvo), EON (smart and Audi), Cycle & Carriage (Peugeot and Leapmotor) and Trapo.

Our appreciation also goes to co-sponsors Carro and Time Energy’s Emit Solar, as well as goodie bag sponsors V-Kool, DodoMat, Blueair, DK Schweizer, Kuzig Glanz Detailing and The Carage. See you next year!

You’ll be able to check out the most exuberant example of the type in the shape of the RS e-tron GT on display, which produces 646 PS and 830 Nm and sprints to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds – on its way to a 250 km/h top speed.

Need something a bit more practical? Then consider the Q8 e-tron S line 55 quattro, now available with a RM61,000 rebate that brings the price down to just over RM430,000. For that, you get dual-motor all-wheel drive, a total system output of 408 PS and 664 Nm of torque, and the ability to complete the century sprint in 5.6 seconds. Highlights in a long list of standard kit include side-view cameras instead of door mirrors, plus a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D surround sound system.

There’s still time to pop by ACE 2024, which continues today, October 27 at SCCC. There are plenty of other promos from the myriad of participating brands, and if you purchase a car at ACE 2024 you’ll receive RM3,000 in vouchers. Entrance is free.

  • ACE 2024: Rent to own a home solar energy setup with Emit Solar, and save more on your electricity bill

ACE 2024: Rent to own a home solar energy setup with Emit Solar, and save more on your electricity bill

It is the second and final day of the paultan.org Auto Car Expo (ACE) 2024, which is ongoing at the Setia City Convention Centre in Setia Alam, Selangor.

Taking part as co-sponsor of ACE 2024 alongside Carro is Emit Solar by Time Energy, the home solar energy solutions provider that is part of telecommunications provider, Time Group.

With battery-electric vehicles now firmly part of the motoring mainstream, charging solutions are integral to the electric vehicle ownership experience, and the more avenues there are for convenient charging, the better. The Emit Solar booth at ACE 2024 is the place to learn how home solar energy works, and to discover how much can potentially be saved on electricity spending with on-the-spot calculations.

The rent-to-own model put forth by Emit Solar aims to ease users into ownership of home solar energy. Here, Emit Solar is offering zero upfront costs – no loans, deposits nor installation fees – and fixed, all-inclusive monthly payments from as low as RM160 with no hidden fees.

As a customer you may choose from five-, seven- or 10-year plans with full ownership at the end of the term, and throughout which you’ll receive full scheduled maintenance and solar panel cleaning, an all-inclusive warranty covering parts, labour, materials and transport, insurance covering installation and operation damages, in addition to 24/7 support.

Ultimately, the dollars have to make sense, so to speak, and Emit Solar promises that the savings on your electricity bill will surpass your solar payments, and if it isn’t at least equal, the company will rebate the difference – it’s in fact the first residential solar provider in Malaysia with this guarantee; visit the Emit Solar website for more details.

Of course, ACE 2024 is all about the automobiles, and what Emit Solar provides is in support of the increasingly mainstream electric vehicle segment which is significantly represented here at the sales-driven expo. In addition to the automotive brands, there is a variety of accessories brands on location at SCCC, too. If you’ve yet to check out ACE 2024, today’s the day to do so.

  • ACE 2024: Check out, test drive the new Mitsubishi Triton, Xpander facelift – buy and get RM3k vouchers

ACE 2024: Check out, test drive the new Mitsubishi Triton, Xpander facelift – buy and get RM3k vouchers

Big launches don’t happen often with Mitsubishi, but we had two back-to-back ones recently. First, the Xpander facelift was unveiled in September, and less than one month later, MMM pulled the drapes off the all-new Triton pick-up truck. Both of these fresh faces are side-by-side at the diamond brand’s ACE 2024 booth.

Let’s start with the Triton. This is the the sixth-generation of Mitsubishi’s pick-up truck, and the third one to use the Triton name here. A total of five variants are available, from the new Triton Single Cab to the fully-loaded high-spec Triton Athlete with more power. The Single Cab is a new variant for the Triton in Malaysia – the previous workhorse was the Quest, a low-rider double-cab.

Now with a square-cut new body, the Triton has grown in size – it was among the smallest in the pick-up truck segment but is now one of the largest in its class. The truck is powered by the new Hyperpower 4N16 2.4-litre turbodiesel with 184 PS/430 Nm, with the Athlete getting a higher 204 PS/470 Nm output, which is 20 PS/40 Nm more than the previous range-topper courtesy of a twin sequential turbo arrangement. Full details and specs in our launch report.

ACE 2024: Check out, test drive the new Mitsubishi Triton, Xpander facelift – buy and get RM3k vouchers

The Xpander facelift is a refresh of the best-selling non-national MPV in Malaysia that has sold at an average of almost 10,000 units a year since its debut here in late 2020.

We’re looking at quite a big facelift that’s dominated by a bolder Dynamic Shield fascia with sideways T-shaped lower headlights (projector LEDs) and thicker chrome bars. At the back, you’ll find new taillights with graphics that mimic the headlamps, plus a more angular rear bumper with vertical reflectors at the edges. New 17-inch blade-style two-tone alloys (one-inch larger) complete the exterior changes.

The Plus variant is distinguished by silver trim on the front and rear lower bumper sections, as well as on the side skirts (versus full black). There’s also a prominent tailgate spoiler and door visors on the range-topper.

ACE 2024: Check out, test drive the new Mitsubishi Triton, Xpander facelift – buy and get RM3k vouchers

Inside, there’s a new and more straight-cut dashboard featuring brown synthetic leather trim pieces with stitching (also on the door cards), a free-standing infotainment touchscreen and a new (more simple) steering wheel with a round horn pad. Also new are the digital display for the air con and an electronic parking brake with auto hold. The latter replaces the pre-facelift car’s handbrake, which frees up space for a centre front armrest without sacrificing the cupholders. Flip it up and you’ll find a handy tissue holder.

Still as practical as ever, with all three rows of seats up, boot space is relatively decent and there’s underfloor storage too. Under the hood is a familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with 105 PS and 141 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Power from the 4A91 DOHC MIVEC unit is sent to the front wheels via a four-speed automatic gearbox. Full details and specs in our launch report.

Come and try these two new Mitsubishis out for size and if all is good, purchase at ACE 2024 to receive a RM3,000 combined voucher from paultan.org.

ACE 2024: Ford Ranger Raptor, WildTrak, StormTrak, Everest on display; financing from RM1,192 a month

If an added dose of ruggedness is what you desire from your next vehicle, the Ford booth at the paultan.org Auto Car Expo (ACE) 2024 – co-sponsored by Carro and Emit Solar – is likely to pique your interest, alongside a variety of particpating brands at the Setia City Convention Centre this weekend of October 26-27.

Deals from Ford cover the Ranger XL, which starts from RM115,888 or RM1,192 monthly, which despite being the base variant, already comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Stepping up to the XLT brings a price tag of RM128,888 or RM1,325 monthly, here adding a smart climate control system with dual zones and rear vents.

At ACE 2024, both the Ranger XL and XLT are being offered with a complimentary five-year service package, or a cash rebate of RM4,000.

ACE 2024: Ford Ranger Raptor, WildTrak, StormTrak, Everest on display; financing from RM1,192 a month

Rumbling in the rough would be the domain of the Ranger Raptor, which is offered in the Malaysian market with either the 210 PS/500 Nm 2.0 litre turbodiesel or the 397 PS/583 Nm 3.0 litre turbocharged petrol V6.

Key to unlocking the Ranger’s off-road performance are the Ranger Raptor’s Fox adaptive suspension, a reinforced chassis, permanent four-wheel drive, an electronically-controlled two-speed transfer case and locking front and rear diffs, while an available Baja mode activates anti-lag when traversing rough terrain at speed. Away from the public road, naturally.

Joining the petrol and diesel Ranger Raptor duo are the Ranger WildTrak and Ranger StormTrak, both also powered by the 210 PS/500 Nm 2.0L turbodiesel and paired with a 10-speed automatic.

The WildTrak sports six drive modes, leather seats and a 360 camera as standard, while the StormTrak is a 200-uni limited-run variant bringing a generous helping of black trim, in addition to a flexible sports bar, an adjustable roof rack, cargo lighting and more.

If you need seating for seven to go with all that ruggedness, the Everest is your ticket. Available in Sport, Trend, Titanium and Wildtrak flavours, it is the Sport trim variant that is on display at the Ford booth here this weekend, seen here with gloss black accents.

No matter the model or variant you choose from here, it’ll be a potent, richly equipped one. On top of the deals from the participating brands, ACE 2024 is also your best chance at scoring early access to year-end deals from various brands. On top of the brand promos, the first 200 customers to make a new car booking at ACE 2024 will receive a RM3,000 combined voucher from paultan.org.

ACE 2024: MG Cyberster drawing in the crowd – order books for red hot EV roadster open, below RM350k

You definitely won’t miss the MG Cyberster at paultan.org ACE 2024, which starts today at the Setia City Convention Centre. The hot electric roadster is drawing in the crowds, being the only two-door sports car in the building, and in the blazing Dynamic Red no less. As if any more help is needed, up goes the powered Lambo-style scissor doors.

The Cyberster is now open for booking with an estimated price of below RM350k. Sounds like a lot of money? Yes, but we heard that there have been bookings already, with buyers coming to ACE to sit in the roadster and poke around before confirming their decision. More than one name on the list, too!

The dual-motor all-wheel-drive system pushes out 544 PS (400 kW) and 725 Nm of torque, and this is good for 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 201 km/h. The 77 kWh battery provides a decent WLTP range of 444 km, and the max DC charging rate is 144 kW – topping up SoC from 10 to 80% takes 38 minutes. AC charging is at 7 kW.

We’re getting a high-spec car here, which includes 20-inch ‘Jetstream’ alloys (largest possible), two powered seats, Nappa leather and Alcantara upholstery and a bank of screens. The latter consists of a 10.25-inch digital instrument display flanked by two more 7.0-inch touchscreens for controlling the infotainment and vehicle functions. Yet another 7.0-inch touchscreen houses the dual-zone climate controls.

Also on the fully-loaded roadster are things like an eight-speaker Bose sound system, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and the full range of driver assistance features, which by the way includes door opening warning although the doors flip upwards. Aside from the red hero colour, you can have your Cyberster in Inca Yellow, Camden Grey and English White too.

Aside from the red hot one, SAIC Motor Malaysia has on display the MG4 and MG ZS EVs, the recently-launched MG5 City/Vios rival and the MG HS. The latter is an ICE C-segment SUV that’s being previewed ahead of a launch that will happen soon. So, come and check out the Cyberster and MG’s more ‘normal’ EV and ICE models at ACE 2024. There are savings of up to RM10,888 on offer and if you purchase a car at ACE, you’ll receive RM3,000 worth of vouchers.

The paultan.org Auto Car Expo (ACE) 2024 co-sponsored by Carro and Emit Solar is happening right now at the Setia City Convention Centre in Setia Alam, Selangor, where the sales-driven event is taking place through this weekend of October 26-27.

Featuring among the brands present at ACE 2024 are BMW and MINI as well as BMW Motorrad, represented by Auto Bavaria. Among the latest in Malaysia from the German marque is the G60 BMW 5 Series in 520i guise, which features alongside the facelifted G20 3 Series as well as the 6 Series Gran Turismo facelift.

The G60 520i comes equipped with the manufacturer’s 2.0 litre TwinPower Turbo petrol engine, arriving in M Sport guise that brings sporty design elements, a bold front grille and sporty bumpers. Electrification puts in a strong showing at the BMW booth with the presence of the iX1 and iX2, the former being offered in single-motor FWD and dual-motor AWD guise, the latter packing up to 313 PS and 494 Nm to enable a 0-100 km/h run of 5.7 seconds. The similarly motivated iX2 does it marginally quicker at 5.6 seconds, and both battery-electric BMWs have a top speed of 180 km/h.

BMW Group stablemate MINI also goes strongly into electrification, and the British brand is showing the recently launched Aceman at ACE 2024. This brings a single-motor front-wheel-drive electric powertrain that outputs 218 PS and 330 Nm, good for a 0-100 km/h run in 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 170 km/h.

Its 54.2 kWh battery enables up to 406 km of range (WLTP), while up to 95 kW DC charging enables a 10-80% recharge in 30 minutes.

Joining the Aceman at the MINI Auto Bavaria booth is the Countryman, which also packs an electric powertrain albeit one that packs a dual-motor layout with AWD, as denoted by its All4 naming. This gets the same 66.5 kWh battery as the BMW iX1, and 432 km of range (WLTP) on a full charge. DC fast charging can be up to 130 kW, doing 10-80% in 30 minutes, while AC charging is possible up to 22 kW.

Looking to go the two-wheeler route at ACE 2024? Auto Bavaria has you covered with BMW Motorrad, which brings the latest generation of its adventure-touring motorcycle, the R 1300 GS, and its electric scooter, the CE 04.

The R 1300 GS is marked step on from its predecessors, featuring a stiffer main frame and a die-cast aluminium rear sub-frame that replaces the trellis tube design of past generations, along with revamped suspension.

The star of the Gelande Strasse as denoted in its model name, is the new 1,300 cc boxer-twin engine with its relocated gearbox and new camshafts, making it the most powerful boxer engine yet from BMW Motorrad, with outputs of 145 hp and 145 Nm sent through a shaft final drive, as customary on a flagship GS.

For urban mobility that is even more futuristic in styling, BMW Motorrad brings the CE 04, which packs a 42 hp electric drive motor enabling a 0-50 km/h time of 2.6 seconds, and a top speed of 120 km/h. A full charge of its battery brings 130 km of range, with a 0-80% charge taking 65 minutes.

With the latest in established models, fully electric offerings and two-wheelers, a wide range of tastes will be catered for. Come on down to ACE 2024 that is ongoing right now at the Setia City Convention Centre, this weekend of October 26-27. Admission is free.
