Zeekr 009 Ultra Luxury in Malaysia – full gallery of RM359,800 range-topping 6-seat variant, 582 km WLTP

Zeekr officially entered Malaysia half a year ago with two EV models – the X SUV and the 009 luxo-MPV you see here in this mega gallery. The Alphard/Vellfire-fighter is off to a good start – 402 units have found Malaysian homes as of end-May, based on road transport department (JPJ) data, making it the third-best-selling EV MPV so far this year. I’m sure you’ve seen more than a handful prowling around the Klang Valley.

Three variants are currently available: the RM310k seven-seat Executive, the RM350k seven-seat Luxury and the RM360k six-seat Ultra Luxury featured here. The Executive has one front-mounted 340 PS/373 Nm electric motor while the rest have two motors for 612 PS/693 Nm in total, but because the battery is the same 116-kWh NMC unit, it’s the Executive that’s the range king, yielding 604 km WLTP.

Still, the upper two variants’ 582 km range is only a 22-km drop, and you get 80% more power, catapulting you to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. Max charging rates are 11 kW AC and 150 kW DC – the latter gets you from 10-80% in just half an hour.

Zeekr 009 Ultra Luxury in Malaysia – full gallery of RM359,800 range-topping 6-seat variant, 582 km WLTP

In terms of kit, there’s actually not much separating the three variants – all get dual-chamber air suspension, the same 19-inch alloys, matrix LED headlamps, plus touch panels on the power-sliding doors for quick access to the door and climate controls.

Also standard across the range are full ADAS and seven airbags, powered front- and middle-row seats with massage and ventilation, Nappa upholstery, an 8.6-litre fridge, a panoramic sunroof, a 17-inch OLED ceiling monitor with remote control, a middle-row camera, and a lot more. This thing is properly loaded.

The only equipment differences between the variants are thus: the Executive doesn’t have soft-close front doors and a power-adjustable steering wheel, and the Ultra Luxury, being the only six-seater, has wider middle-row seats, so you can’t walk between them to get to the back row.

Up front you’ll find a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.05-inch OLED touchscreen, while the high centre console houses a 50W wireless charging pad. There’s also a 39.95-inch augmented reality-enabled head-up display, telematics with a companion app, and 30 Yamaha speakers.

The 009 is 5,209 mm long, 2,024 mm wide, 1,848 mm tall and has a 3,205 mm wheelbase, so it’s 200 mm longer, 174 mm wider and has a 205 mm longer wheelbase than the RM438k Vellfire and RM538k Alphard. Every 009 comes with a five-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/160,000-km battery warranty and two years’ free connected services.

  • Zeekr 009 Executive spec update – EV MPV gets dual-chamber air suspension; FWD, 604 km WLTP; RM310k

Zeekr 009 Executive spec update – EV MPV gets dual-chamber air suspension; FWD, 604 km WLTP; RM310k

Following the introduction of the Zeekr 009 Executive last week, Zeekr Malaysia has now announced that the base variant of the electric MPV has been updated to feature dual-chamber air suspension instead of the previous single-chamber system.

Beyond this change, everything else about the Executive variant is as per what we reported previously. The base option is offered at an introductory price of RM310,000 on-the-road without insurance for the first 500 customers, with a non-promo price set to be revealed later. The 009 originally launched in two variants, including the Luxury priced at RM349,800 and the Ultra Luxury at RM359,800, which makes the Executive up to RM49,800 cheaper when compared to the latter.

Unlike the other two variants that are all-wheel drive with dual motors rated for 612 PS (603 hp or 450 kW) and 693 Nm of torque, Executive only has a single electric motor at the front making 340 PS (335 hp or 250 kW) and 373 Nm. The 0-100 km/h time of 7.9 seconds is slower than the AWD variants’ 4.5 seconds, although the top speed is identical at 210 km/h.

The Executive gets the same 116-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery as the AWD variants, and with one less motor, it provides a WLTP-rated range of up to 604 km instead of 582 km. Charging at a max AC input of 11 kW will get the battery get from 0-100% in 13.5 hours, while DC fast charging from 10-80% with a 150-kW input needs 30 minutes.

The Executive is only offered as a seven-seater like the Luxury and gets similar equipment to the now mid-tier variant. Based on the spec sheet available, the base variant misses out on front doors with an electronic latch and the steering wheel is manually adjustable instead of powered.

Retained are the matrix LED headlamps with adaptive driving beam (ADB) and front lighting system (AFS), LED daytime running lights, interior ambient lighting, Nappa leather/Ultrasuede upholstery, powered first- and second-row seats (with ventilation and massage functions), seven airbags and a suite of ADAS.

  • Zeekr 009 gains Executive variant in Malaysia – FWD; 604 km WLTP EV range; RM310k for first 500 buyers

Zeekr 009 gains Executive variant in Malaysia – FWD; 604 km WLTP EV range; RM310k for first 500 buyers

The Zeekr 009 variant line-up in Malaysia has been expanded to include a new base Executive which joins the existing Luxury and Ultra Luxury. Officially, we’re told the Executive retails for RM310,000 on-the-road without insurance, but this is a special introductory price applicable to the first 500 customers. A “regular” price will be made known after then.

For context, the Luxury is priced at RM349,800, while the Ultra Luxury is RM359,800, which makes the Executive up to RM49,800 cheaper when compared to the latter. However, you will have to make some compromises, starting with the powertrain.

Unlike the other two variants that are all-wheel drive with dual motors rated for 612 PS (603 hp or 450 kW) and 693 Nm of torque, Executive only has a single electric motor at the front making 340 PS (335 hp or 250 kW) and 373 Nm. Unsurprisingly, the 0-100 km/h time of 7.9 seconds is slower than the AWD variants’ 4.5 seconds, although the top speed is identical across the board at 210 km/h.

There is an upside to the reduced outputs, and that is range. The Executive uses the same 116-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery as the AWD variants, enabling a WLTP-rated range of up to 604 km instead of 582 km. AC charging via an 11-kW input will see the battery get from 0-100% in 13.5 hours, while DC fast charging from 10-80% with a 150-kW input needs 30 minutes – the same across the board.

The Executive is a seven-seater like the Luxury and mostly matches it when it comes to equipment. Based on the spec sheet available at the Malaysia Autoshow where Zeekr has a booth, the base variant gets single-chamber air suspension instead of the higher-spec variants’ dual-chamber units. Additionally, the front doors do not have an electronic latch, the steering wheel is manually adjustable instead of powered.

In addition to the Executive variant, the 009 also gains a new exterior colour called Mineral Green that is only available for the Luxury and Ultra Luxury variants. Phantom Black and Crystal White are still offered for the entire range.

  • Zeekr 009 Grand Collector’s Edition adds 24K gold-plated accents, alpaca wool carpets – RM542k

    Zeekr 009 Grand Collector’s Edition adds 24K gold-plated accents, alpaca wool carpets – RM542k

With an imposing MPV design, four seats and a massive TV at the back, the Zeekr 009 Grand has been tailored specifically for well-heeled Chinese buyers. But what if you could make it even more perfect? Welcome to the new 009 Grand Collector’s Edition, which adds several gold details to the mix.

Here, gold really does mean gold – the brand and model badges and the self-righting wheel centres are all plated from genuine 24-carat gold. A total of three grams of the stuff are used per car, according to Car News China.

The gilt accents continue in the hand-painted double pinstripes on the shoulder line, as well as the front and rear bumper, side skirt and cant rail trim, C-pillar inlays and the rims of the 20-inch hand-polished forged wheels. Those rollers, by the way, have been given a physical vapour deposition (PVD) treatment, providing it with a dark chrome finish.

Inside, you get gold-hued trim instead of chrome, gold seat belts, the Zeekr monogram on either side of the 43-inch TV and wool carpets made from the hairs of Andean alpacas. The rest of the car is as per the “regular” Grand, meaning that rear passengers still rest on plush business class-style seats with 24-way power adjustment, heating, cooling and massage functions and aniline leather upholstery.

Other features include an eight-inch rear tablet, a leather-trimmed fold-out table, crystal switchgear, an 18 litre hot and cold refrigerator, electrochromic rear side windows, a 31-speaker, 3,000-watt Yamaha sound system with headrest speakers and even a vase next to the TV. There’s also a one-touch privacy mode that darkens the rear glass and raises the electrochromic frosting divider between the front and rear occupants.

The mechanicals have been left unchanged, with dual motors providing all-wheel drive and a towering total output of 789 PS (580 kW) and 810 Nm of torque – rocketing this near-three-tonne MPV from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 230 km/h. Dual-chamber adaptive air suspension attempts to keep body movements in check.

A 108 kWh battery provides a range of 702 km on China’s incredibly lenient CLTC cycle; expect a real-world figure closer to 500 km, given that the larger 116 kWh pack in our less well-appointed 009 has a WLTP range of 582 km. The 009 Grand supports 5C charging (five times the battery capacity), meaning DC fast charging speeds are in excess of 500 kW; it can also provide up to 60 kW of DC vehicle-to-vehicle charging to another EV.

All this extravagance does not come cheap – the 009 Grand Collector’s Edition costs 899,000 yuan (RM542,000), which is 110,000 yuan (RM66,300) more expensive than even the already-opulent Grand. To give you a sense of perspective, even the most expensive six-seater 009 retails at RM359,800 in Malaysia.

Zeekr 009 launched in Malaysia – 6/7 seats; 582 km WLTP EV range; from RM310k, cheaper than Alphard

The Zeekr 009 has finally made its launch debut in Malaysia, two months after order taking started for the all-electric MPV that looks to draw buyers away from the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. As previously reported, the 009 will be available in two variants that are nearly identical in terms of specifications, with the only difference being the number of ‘Sofaro’ seats.

UPDATE: A third variant of the Zeekr 009 has been launched. The most affordable spec is now the 7-seater single motor Zeekr 009 Executive priced at 310km.

Your options include the Luxury, which comes with seven seats (2-2-3 layout) and is priced at RM349,800 on-the-road without insurance. This is followed by the Ultra Luxury at RM359,800 that gets six seats (2-2-2 layout) instead.

Executive seats are standard in the second row of both variants, although they differ when it comes to features. The Ultra Luxury’s seats are more “tauke-friendly” as they are wider, with each featuring a built-in, foldable tray tables well as a dedicated control panel hidden under the outermost armrest for seat controls.

Zeekr 009 launched in Malaysia – 6/7 seats; 582 km WLTP EV range; from RM310k, cheaper than Alphard

The Luxury’s seats aren’t as wide as those in the Ultra Luxury, which allows for a passthrough aisle to get to the 60:40 split-folding bench in the third row. Nappa leather upholstery is the default for the 009, and both the front- and second-row seats are power adjustable with massage and ventilation functions.

In terms of interior colours, the Luxury can only be had in Black regardless of the three exterior colours offered, which are Phantom Black, Electric Blue and Crystal White. The Ultra Luxury gains two two-tone options – Midnight Blue/Polar White and Stone Grey/Polar White – that are paired with Electric Blue and Crystal White respectively, with Phantom Black getting a Black cabin.

Aside from the seat configuration and colour schemes, the two available variants share the same equipment. Standard features include touch panels on the power-sliding doors for quick access to the door and climate controls, an 8.6-litre refrigerator, a panoramic sunroof, a ceiling-mounted 17-inch OLED display (with remote control) and a second-row camera in case you want to make a video call or observe your passengers.

Zeekr 009 launched in Malaysia – 6/7 seats; 582 km WLTP EV range; from RM310k, cheaper than Alphard

At the front, you’ll find a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.05-inch OLED touchscreen, while the high centre console houses a 50W wireless charging pad. There’s also a 39.95-inch augmented reality-enabled head-up display, telematics with a companion app and a 30-speaker Yamaha sound system.

Same goes for the powertrain, which is a dual-motor setup rated at 612 PS (603 hp or 450 kW) and 693 Nm of torque and will get from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The motors are powered by a nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery with an energy capacity of 116 kWh, which is good for a WLTP-rated range of up to 582 km. This setup built on a 400V electrical architecture is the same as what’s offered in Hong Kong.

AC charging at a peak input of 11 kW is supported, as is DC fast charging at a max capacity of 150 kW, the latter capable of getting the battery from a 10-80% state of charge in just 30 minutes. A dual-chamber air suspension system is standard across the board, as is a set of 19-inch aero-style wheels.

Zeekr 009 Ultra Luxury (left), Luxury (right)

As for safety, the 009 comes with seven airbags, a 360-degree camera and a digital video recorder, while driver assistance systems that are standard include front and rear collision mitigation support, adaptive cruise control, lane centring control, lane keep assist, automatic lane change, traffic sign recognition, driver monitoring, automatic parking assist and autonomous emergency braking (even during parking).

For those curious about the 009’s footprint, it measures 5,209 mm long, 2,024 mm wide, 1,848 mm tall and has a wheelbase that spans 3,205 mm. That makes it about 200 mm longer overall, 174 mm wider and with a wheelbase advantage of 205 mm when compared to the Alphard/Vellfire duo. Expanding the comparison to price, the 009’s starting price of RM349,800 makes it considerably less than the Alphard that goes for RM538,000 as well as the Alphard from RM438,000.

Here’s a full gallery of the Zeekr 009, which is currently on display at Sunway Pinnacle in Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya. Though not officially launched yet, the order books for the fully electric MPV are currently open with estimated pricing below RM370k.

The latest 009 is a premium offering that looks to compete against the petrol-powered Toyota Alphard and Vellfire, both of which occupy a smaller footprint than the Zeekr model. Bringing out the numbers, the 009 measures 5,209 mm long, 2,024 mm wide, 1,848 mm tall and with a wheelbase of 3,205 mm, which makes it about 200 mm longer overall, 174 mm wider and with a wheelbase advantage of 205 mm by comparison.

The Alphard and Vellfire retail for RM538,000 and RM438,000 respectively, which makes the 009 – at its indicative price – RM168k less than the Alphard and RM68k less when compared to the Vellfire. Worth considering?

We’re getting the 009 in two variants that appear to be nearly identical in terms of specifications, with the only difference being the number of ‘Sofaro’ seats. You get seven seats with the Luxury variant arranged in a 2+2+3 layout, while the Ultra Luxury comes with six seats in a 2+2+2 arrangement – Nappa leather upholstered is standard.

Both get executive seats in the second row, although the ones in the Luxury aren’t as wide in order to accommodate a passthrough aisle as an extra means of getting to the third row. The front- and second-row seats are power adjustable and come with massage as well as ventilation functions for all variants. Exclusive to the Ultra Luxury’s executive seats are built-in tray tables that can be folded away, along with a control panel hidden under the outermost armrest.

Other creature comforts on both variants include touch panels on the power-sliding doors for quick access to the door and climate controls, a refrigerator, a panoramic sunroof, a ceiling-mounted 17-inch OLED display (with remote control) and a second-row camera in case you want to make a video call or observe your passengers.

Lastly, colours. Three options are offered, namely Phantom Black, Electric Blue and Crystal White, all of which are available for both variants. Interior colours include Black as well as two-tone Midnight Blue/Polar White and Stone Grey/Polar White schemes.

In addition to the X crossover, Zeekr Malaysia also announced it has started order taking for the Zeekr 009. The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker has made it abundantly clear that the 009 is targeted at other premium MPVs, most notably the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire duo, and its estimated starting price of below RM370k is a clear sign of intent.

At that indicative figure, the 009 is RM68k cheaper than the Vellfire and a whopping RM168k less than the Alphard. You get more car (technically) too, as at 5,209 mm long, 2,024 mm wide, 1,848 mm tall and with a wheelbase of 3,205 mm, the 009 has a larger footprint and longer wheelbase than the competition.

It appears we’re matching Thailand in terms of specifications, as the headline figures include a 0-100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds, a 116-kWh battery and a WLTP-rated range of 582 km. These numbers are nearly identical to the 009 sold in Thailand, which is the updated version of the MPV that first made its debut in Hong Kong a few months earlier in July this year.

However, where our northern neighbours get the 009 in a sole variant called the Flagship AWD with six seats (executive ones for the second row), we’re getting two variants called the Luxury (seven-seater) and Ultra Luxury (six-seater). The former is new for the 009 and has a 2+2+3 seat layout, with executive seats that aren’t as wide as the those in the Ultra Luxury (2+2+2 layout). This allows for a passthrough aisle in the middle for easy access to the third-row bench.

Both variants feature a dual-motor setup rated at 612 PS (603 hp or 450 kW) and 693 Nm of torque, with a nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery that supports DC fast charging at a peak of 150 kW – a 10-80% state of charge is achieved in just 30 minutes.

Equipment mentioned in the release includes 12-way powered front seats with massage, memory and ventilation functions, ‘Sofaro’ seats that use Nappa leather, second-row seats with an adjustable leg rest as well as ventilation, massage and memory functions, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster display, a 15.05-inch OLED infotainment touchscreen, a 17-inch OLED ceiling-mounted rear display, sliding door card touch displays, a 30-speaker Yamaha sound system, a 50W wireless charging pad and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Zeekr 009 open for booking in Malaysia – 582 km WLTP EV range; below RM370k est, less than Alphard/Vellfire

Also included is an air suspension system, matrix LED headlamps with adaptive driving beam, LED DRLs, a 360-degree camera, a digital video recorder and an ADAS suite that includes autonomous emergency braking (also active during parking manoeuvres), adaptive cruise control, lane centring control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, door open warning and driver monitoring.

Three colours are offered for the 009, including Phantom Black, Electric Blue and Crystal White Pearl, while the interior comes in Black as well as two-tone options: Stone Grey and Polar White as well as Midnight Blue and Polar White.

With that estimated price tag and the features on offer, is the Zeekr 009 worth considering over the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire or will you be waiting for more options such as the Denza D9 to enter the market?

  • Zeekr 009 spotted in Malaysia ahead of launch this year – premium EV MPV with up 582 km WLTP range

Zeekr 009 spotted in Malaysia ahead of launch this year – premium EV MPV with up 582 km WLTP range

The Zeekr 009 has been spotted in Malaysia, nearly two months after the X was sighted in June. Both models are slated to be launched this year, with the MPV recently receiving an update last month.

Looking at the photo posted by Yuri Iskandar in the Malaysian Electric Vehicle Owners Club (MyEVOC) group on Facebook, as well as those provided by paultan.org reader Enson Chan, the 009 sighted is without any camouflage and wearing trade plates as well as ‘Star’ wheels, the latter is available 19- or 20-inch sizes.

The lack of clearly visible shark fin antenna on the roof suggests this to be the updated 009 that was first revealed in Hong Kong. In that right-hand drive (RHD) market, the MPV is priced from HKD755,000 (about RM430k) and available in six- and seven-seat configurations. The HK-spec 009 is built on a 400V architecture with dual electric motors as well as a 116-kWh battery for up to 582 km following the WLTP standard.

As for its home market in China, the 009 gets an 800V architecture by default and is offered with front- and dual-motor setups, the former being a new addition that is rated at 421 PS (416 hp or 310 kW) and 440 Nm of torque for a 0-100 km/h time of 6.9 seconds and top speed of 230 km/h.

Meanwhile, the dual-motor, all-wheel drive option gets a power upgrade to match the 009 Grand launched earlier this year, with outputs now at 789 PS (778 hp or 580 kW) and 810 Nm for a 0-100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds and the same top speed of 230 km/h.

Both FWD and AWD powertrains come standard with a 108-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery that can DC fast charger from a 10-80% state of charge in just 11.5 minutes thanks to an 800V architecture. This is referred to as 5C charging, with the “C” indicating how many times a battery can be charged in one hour.

The FWD variant provides up to 740 km of range following the highly generous CLTC standard, while the AWD offers up to 702 km. Buyers there can option a 140-kWh battery that sees a switch to a 400V architecture and reduced motor outputs, but the range go up to 900 km for the FWD and 850 km for the AWD. All versions of the 009 come with CCD electromagnetic damping and air suspension, with pricing in China ranging from 439,000 to 469,000 yuan (about RM272k and RM291k).

Given HK is the first to get the latest 009 in RHD guise, we should expect our local specifications for follow those of that country. Zeekr’s premium MPV will take aim at the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire and is well equipped to do that.

Features include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster display, a 15.05-inch OLED touchscreen infotainment system, a 17-inch OLED ceiling-mounted display for rear passengers, ‘Sofaro’ Nappa leather upholstery, two executive chairs in the second row, power-sliding doors, a 30-speaker Yamaha sound system and full ADAS suite.

The Alphard sells for RM538,000 here, while the Vellfire goes for RM438,000. If the 009 undercuts both at around RM350k, would you consider this fully electric MPV over the Toyota duo? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

2024 Zeekr 009 debuts – new FWD, 7-seat variants; up to 789 PS, 900 km CLTC range; RHD for HK fr RM453k

The updated Zeekr 009 has made its simultaneous launch debut in China as well as in Hong Kong, the latter being a country that has a strong affinity for the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire. Zeekr’s decision to also introduce its refreshed electric MPV, which it is labelling as “all-new,” in Hong Kong (a right-hand drive market) reinforces the Chinese carmaker’s plan to expand globally and enter more markets.

Malaysia is on the expansion list too, as we are poised to get both the Zeekr 009 and X this year. Local pricing and a launch date are not available just yet, but the former should be competitive against Toyota’s MPVs. Officially, the latest 009 retails in China for between 439,000 and 469,000 yuan (about RM283k and RM302k), so post your educated guesses on how much it’ll cost in Malaysia in the comments below.

It should be noted that the pricing of the new 009 is actually less than before, as the previous entry-level WE variant sold for 500,000 yuan (RM322k). However, the older variant line-up no longer applies with the new model because of the updates introduced.

In addition to the dual-motor setup that continues to be offered, there’s now a single-motor powertrain added to the line-up. Contrary to earlier reports, it is a front-wheel drive setup that is being added instead of a rear-wheel drive one.

This gets an electric motor rated at 421 PS (416 hp or 310 kW) and 440 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and top speed of 230 km/h. Meanwhile, the dual-motor option gets a power upgrade to match the 009 Grand launched earlier this year, with outputs now at 789 PS (778 hp or 580 kW) and 810 Nm for a 0-100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds and the same top speed of 230 km/h.

Both FWD and AWD powertrains come standard with a 108-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery that can DC fast charger from a 10-80% state of charge in just 11.5 minutes thanks to an 800V architecture. This is deemed as 5C charging, with the “C” indicating how many times a battery can be charged in one hour.

Fully charged, the FWD option provides up to 740 km of range following the highly generous CLTC standard, while the AWD offers up to 702 km. As an option, buyers can also go with a 140-kWh battery for an extra 50,000 yuan (RM32k) that bumps the range – depending on powertrain – up to 900 km, but sees a switch to a 400V high-voltage system instead of the default 800V.

Keep in mind that these specifications are for China. The global (RHD) version of the 009 being introduced in Hong Kong first will get a 400V architecture with a 116-kWh battery, up to 582 km of range following the more common WLTP standard and dual motors. Available in six- and seven-seat configurations, the Hong Kong-specific 009 starts at HKD755,000 (RM453k), inclusive of relevant taxes there.

As far as styling changes go, the new 009 looks rather similar to its predecessor despite the 1,366 components claimed to be changed, although you’ll notice the additional chrome trim on the front grille, which can also be had in body colour with illumination. There’s also a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor that follows the four-seat Grand version launched in April and is now making its way to the more affordable variants.

The new 009’s overall length is now eight mm more at 5,217 mm, but the width (2,024 mm) and wheelbase (3,205 mm) remain unchanged. However, the vehicle’s height has been reduced by 36 mm to 1,812 mm due to the omission of the shark fin antenna, which has been integrated into the rear spoiler instead.

Moving inside, it’s again a familiar feeling with a simple dashboard layout featuring a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster display, but the touchscreen infotainment system at the front has been revised to a 15.05-inch OLED screen with 2.5K resolution. The ceiling-mounted display for rear passengers has also been changed to a 17-inch OLED unit with 3K resolution and a refresh rate of 90 Hz.

These displays, along with a 35.95 AR head-up display, are powered a pair of Qualcomm 8295 chips that brings with it enhanced AI features that brings in large language model computation as well as predict the requirements of users based on their habits. For instance, when parked at home, the vehicle can predict the next day’s battery needs in advance based on commuting habits, and proactively remind the owner to charge it on time.

The cabin also gets more soft-touch and premium materials too, with notable revisions being the ‘Sofaro’ seats that use Nappa leather and come equipped with headrest speakers, ventilation, massage and heating functions. There’s also a Ultrasuede headliner and stitching.

As before, the 009 can be had with six seats (2+2+2 layout) or four in the form of the tauke-focused Grand. For 2024, a new seven-seat option has been added, no doubt to make the 009 more appealing for those looking for a people carrier.

Arranged in a 2+2+3 layout, the seven-seater gets executive seats in the second row, although they aren’t as wide as those in the six-seater, allowing for a passthrough aisle in the middle for easy access to the third-row bench. The seven-seat layout can be had with either the FWD or AWD powertrain, but the six-seater only gets the dual-motor setup.

The rest of the kit list is pretty comprehensive, with all variants getting Zeekr’s CCD electromagnetic damping and air suspension, a one-pedal driving mode, matrix LED headlamps with adaptive high beam and cornering light, power-sliding doors and tailgate, dual sunroofs, a 30-speaker Yamaha sound system, a 50W wireless charging pad, multiple high-power USB-C ports, three-zone climate control, a CN95 and PM2.5 filter, a new refrigerator, UWB smart key support and telematics.

In terms of advanced driver assistance systems, the newly-added LiDAR works with other sensors and the Mobileye EyeQ5H chip to deliver full-speed active cruise control, AEB, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, lane change assist, cross traffic alert and automatic parking assist. Further functions that enable Level 2+ autonomous driving is available as a cost option.

  • Zeekr 009 EV coming to Malaysia this year – premium MPV to rival Toyota Alphard; from RM324k in China

Zeekr 009 EV coming to Malaysia this year – premium MPV to rival Toyota Alphard; from RM324k in China

Zeekr’s launch in Malaysia will be led by two electric vehicles (EVs), one of which is the 009, a large MPV that will rival the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire. Ahead of the brand’s introduction here, Zeekr Malaysia brought us out to the brand’s home city of Ningbo in China to check out the 009, so here’s a gallery of the premium offering before it goes on sale here.

First unveiled in 2022, the 009 is built on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), specifically the SEA1 platform that is for larger vehicles with wheelbases of around 3,000 mm or more. Other models that use this platform include the 001, Volvo EM90 and Polestar 4.

Measuring 5,209 mm long, 2,024 mm wide, 1,848 mm tall and with a wheelbase of 3,205 mm, the 009 is bigger than the Alphard/Vellfire MPVs that are 5,005-5,010 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, 1,950 mm tall and having a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.

Design-wise, the 009 is a rather imposing vehicle with a large front grille that is either in body colour or chrome, accompanied by vertical accents that can be illuminated – referred to as the ‘Fountain of Light’. There’s also split lighting at the front, with the main headlamps nestled further close to the air curtains, while above are the “N-shaped” daytime running lights.

Zeekr 009 EV coming to Malaysia this year – premium MPV to rival Toyota Alphard; from RM324k in China

Power-sliding doors are on both sides of the MPV, while the rear sporting intricate, full-width taillights and a powered tailgate. 19-inch wheel in one of two designs are standard for the 009, although customers can option 20-inch units as well.

Moving inside, the 009’s cabin features premium materials and a simple dual-screen setup, the latter made up of a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.4-inch central infotainment touchscreen. There’s not much in the way of physical controls, with almost all vehicle functions accessed via the touchscreen, including the three-zone climate system.

Other premium features found in the 009 are dual sunroofs as well as a Yamaha sound system that consists of 13 speakers, one subwoofer as well as six speakers integrated into the headrests of the driver and second-row seats. There’s also a 15W wireless charger, six USB-C ports (one 15W, four 18W and one 60W) and a 15.6-inch touchscreen for the rear passengers.

On that mention, the 009 is offered as six-seater in China with a 2+2+2 layout, with the second row having powered executive seats that can be put into a sort of “airplane” mode. These seats also come with heating, ventilation and massage functions, all of which are controlled via a panel on the outer armrests. Those in the second row can also use a HDMI port to plug in devices to the screen in the ceiling, and the door cards have a touchscreen for various comfort controls.

The executive seats are placed close together, with the inner armrests having a deployable table to further drive home the “airplane” feeling. This also means there’s no passthrough to get to the third row, although dedicated buttons on the sides of the seats make it easy to slide and tilt them forward to ingress/egress.

In China, the 009 is available with two powertrains built on an 800V architecture, both using a nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery that can DC fast charge from 10-80% state of charge in 28 minutes. Both also have a dual-motor setup rated at 544 PS (536 hp or 400 kW) and 686 Nm of torque – the 0-100 km/h time is 4.5 seconds.

The WE variant of the MPV is priced at 500,000 yuan (about RM324k) and offers up to 702 km of range (116 kWh battery) following the more lenient CLTC standard. The other option is the ME at 588,000 yuan (RM382k) that provides as much as 822 km (140 kWh battery).

Regardless of variant, the 009 comes standard with front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension paired with air springs and CCD electromagnetic dampers for a smooth and comfortable ride – the Alphard/Vellfire uses steel springs and standard dampers.

Given Zeekr’s focus on being an intelligent, software-driven carmaker, the 009 unsurprisingly comes with a complete suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including full-speed active cruise control, lane change assist, autonomous emergency braking, lane centring assist, a 360-degree camera and cross traffic alert with braking assistance.

With a starting price of around RM324k (in China), and given the current incentives that imported EVs currently enjoy in Malaysia, hopefully the 009 can retail from around RM350k when it goes on sale here. For context, the Vellfire is priced from RM438k and the Alphard from RM538k in Malaysia, so the 009 does seem pretty tempting for all the kit offered, and if you don’t mind making the switch to an EV lifestyle. What say you?

If the 009 is not luxurious enough for you, Zeekr has you covered with the 009 Grand, an even fancier version of the MPV that went on sale in China in April this year. Designed to lure those who were looking at the Lexus LM, the 009 Grand is a four-seater that sells for 789,000 yuan (RM512k) – that’s less than half the RM1.228 million you’re paying for the LM here.

In the 009 Grand, the rear executive seats are redesigned with more plush bolstering and is accompanied by seat controls on the walls as well as a central control pad for comfort functions. Ahead of the rear passengers is a “wall” with a 43-inch display with mini LED tech, 4K resolution and support for Dolby Vision.

A small window at the top of the “wall” can be opened if you need to converse with the chauffer, and the “TV” sits on a base made from polished marble, with the material also. If the 009’s rear seats were meant to be “business class,” the 009 Grand takes things a step further to “first class” by adding more storage cubbies and even an 18-litre refrigerator.

In addition to being more luxurious, the 009 Grand also has a more powerful dual-motor setup rated at 789 PS (778 hp or 580 kW) and 810 Nm. Battery capacity is smaller than the regular 009 at 108 kWh, but the range is quoted to be identical to the WE variant at 702 km (CLTC). With more grunt, the 009 Grand’s century sprint time is the quickest at 3.9 seconds and the top speed is 230 km/h.

The newer 009 Grand also has a more expansive sensor suite for its ADAS, with the addition of lidar to complement the standard model’s high-definition cameras, ultrasonic radars and millimeter-wave radars. These components enable the Zeekr AD (Autonomous Driving) driving assistant system for complex driving scenarios, which can be added for a one-time fee.

Before concluding here’s an overview of the carmaker. Founded in 2021, Zeekr is part of the Geely Auto Group and its name is made up of three components. According to the company, ‘ZE’ stands for zero, ‘E’ stands for “evolving the electric era” and ‘KR’ stands for krypton, a rare gas that emits light when electrified.

In May this year, Zeekr filed its initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange and managed to raise around USD441 milllion, making it the largest IPO by a China-based company since 2021 when LianBio’s IPO was listed.

Zeekr currently has three R&D facilities in China (Ningbo, Hangzhou and Shanghai), along with another in Europe called Zeekr Technology Europe (formerly China Euro Vehicle Technology or CEVT). The company also has a global design centre in Gothenburg, Sweden, while its Zeekr Power subsidiary provides charging solutions.

Zeekr 009 EV coming to Malaysia this year – premium MPV to rival Toyota Alphard; from RM324k in China

Given its association with Geely, which has several other brands under its umbrella, Zeekr has access to resources to produce its models. One of them is Viridi Energy Mobility Technology (VREMT) that is headquartered in Ningbo and founded in 2013 as an affiliate of Geely.

VREMT specialises in R&D, manufacturing, sales and aftersales service of new energy vehicle (NEV) batteries, electric drive systems, charging systems and energy storage systems. In addition to Zeekr, the company also supplies for Lynk & Co, Volvo and other Geely models.

Given what you have read so far, are you looking forward to the Zeekr 009’s launch in Malaysia? Is this the MPV that makes you think twice about getting an Alphard/Vellfire? Let us know what your thoughts in the comments below.

Zeekr appoints Sentinel Automotive as Malaysian partner – X SUV and 009 MPV due in later this year

Last week, Zeekr held a private preview of its Zeekr X SUV in Malaysia, indicating that the Geely-owned EV brand was on its way in to Malaysia. Now, that has been confirmed, with the Chinese company announcing that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Sentinel Automotive, which will be its local partner in Malaysia. It also inked a similar agreement with PT Premium Auto Prima in Indonesia, CarNewsChina reports.

The company will set up its first Malaysian outlet in Kuala Lumpur, with stores in other major areas such as Penang and Selangor also expected to be built later this year, and these will begin selling the X SUV and Zeekr 009 MPV, the first two models announced for both the Malaysian and Indonesian markets.

The automotive news site added that the first right-hand drive versions of the X rolled off the production line in China last week, with overseas deliveries expected to begin in the third quarter of this year, essentially indicating when the brand will make its debut here.

Zeekr appoints Sentinel Automotive as Malaysian partner – X SUV and 009 MPV due in later this year

The X, which is underpinned by Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, is sold in China in single-motor RWD or dual-motor AWD forms. The single-motor version has 272 PS (200 kW) and 343 Nm in the way of output, and this allows the SUV to accomplish the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.8 seconds. As for the AWD, it has 428 PS (315 kW) and 543 Nm, which brings the century sprint time down to 3.8 seconds.

If those figures sound familiar, they are, identical to that of the smart #1 Premium and Brabus. The similarities continue with the batteries, with a 66 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) unit offering 560 km of travel for the RWD and 512 km for the AWD, on a CLTC cycle (real-world range should be closer to the respective 440 km and 400 km quoted for the smart #1 in the WLTP cycle). As for charging, 150 kW of DC charging gets the battery from 10 to 80% SoC in 30 minutes for the smart, so that for the Zeekr should be similar .

As for the 009, it’s luxury EV MPV that is longer, wider and sits lower than the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire, so it’s not puny. In its domestic market, the 009 runs with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, and with 544 PS (400 kW) and 686 Nm on tap, the big MPV can haul rapidly, doing the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 4.8 seconds. Two NMC battery choices are available, 116 kWh and 140 kWh, and these offer a CLTC range of 702 and 822 km respectively.

  • Zeekr confirmed coming to Malaysia – Zeekr X SUV is Geely-owned EV brand’s first model, 009 MPV next?

Zeekr is coming soon to Malaysia! An invitation to a private preview event is circulating online at the moment and it says that the event was held at Grand Hyatt KL this morning.

“This exciting new brand is set to launch in Malaysia soon. Join us for a morning of exploration and innovation. Representatives from Zeekr will be present to share insights about the company’s vision and its revolutionary products. You’ll also have the opportunity to see the Zeekr X, a compact luxury SUV, up close,” the invite said.

Two things are confirmed then – the Geely-owned EV brand coming to Malaysia, and the Zeekr X being the model to kickstart the brand’s entry in our market.

Zeekr confirmed coming to Malaysia – Zeekr X SUV is Geely-owned EV brand’s first model, 009 MPV next?

The Zeekr X sits on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, which also underpins the group’s other EVs like the smart #1, smart #3 and the Volvo EX30. At 4,450 mm long and 1,836 mm wide, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, the X is around the size of a MINI Countryman, but has sharp lines and details. You can call it futuristic-looking, I suppose.

The X is available in single-motor RWD or dual-motor AWD versions, the former producing 272 PS (200 kW) and 343 Nm of torque good for 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. The AWD makes 428 PS (315 kW) and 543 Nm, and does the century sprint in just 3.8 seconds. If those figures sound familiar, they’re shared with the smart #1 Premium and Brabus.

Also shared with smart are the batteries – a 66 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) unit that provides a range of 560 km for the RWD and 512 km for the AWD. Those are CLTC figures, so expect real-world range to be closer to 440 km and 400 km respectively, as quoted for the smart #1 in the WLTP cycle). The smart takes in 150 kW of DC juice, which raises the power bar from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes.

Zeekr confirmed coming to Malaysia – Zeekr X SUV is Geely-owned EV brand’s first model, 009 MPV next?

Notable features on the X include power-opening doors, a 13-speaker Yamaha sound system and even a display on the B-pillar that can show the state of charging, plus a camera that can use facial recognition to unlock the door. Unusually for such a small car, the X can be had as either a four- or five-seater; the car you see here, which we shot at Bangkok 2024, is the latter.

What’s next from Zeekr? We’re putting our bet on the 009, as the luxury EV MPV is the launch partner of the X in other right-hand-drive markets such as Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Singapore. At 5,209 mm long, 2,024 mm wide and 1,848 mm tall, the 009 is 199 mm longer, 174 mm wider and 102 mm lower than the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire, while the EV’s 3,205 mm wheelbase is a 205 mm longer than the luxury MPV benchmark.

In China, this land yacht has dual-motor all-wheel drive with 544 PS (400 kW) and 686 Nm, capable of pushing this beast from 0-100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. Buyers get a choice of 116 kWh and 140 kWh NMC batteries that deliver a CLTC range of 702 and 822 km respectively.

What do you think of the Zeekr X’s rather unique design compared to the smart #1, smart #3 and upcoming Volvo EX30?

  • Zeekr 009 Grand teased – electric Lexus LM rival with four seats, massive rear screen, to be revealed April 19

Zeekr 009 Grand teased – electric Lexus LM rival with four seats, massive rear screen, to be revealed April 19

The Zeekr 009 is already an impossibly luxurious MPV, larger than a Toyota Alphard/Vellfire and coming with an equally sumptuous cabin and a silent, effortless electric powertrain. But in China, being “impossibly luxurious” is clearly not enough, because Geely’s flagship EV brand is looking to one-up itself with the 009 Grand – a four-seater version that has the Lexus LM in its sights.

It’s being teased at the moment ahead of its April 19 reveal, but we’re already getting a good look at the grandiose cabin – at least for the rear passengers. It certainly is impressive, equipped with massive wingback seats with wraparound headrests, neck pillows and adjustable ottomans. You also get an enormous glass roof and white wood veneer (or is it marble?) to match the white leather upholstery.

The most impressive part of the interior, however, is up front. Here, you’ll find a humongous rear monitor (who are we kidding, it’s a TV the size of the one in your living room) that dwarfs the slim and wide displays used in cars like the LM and the BMW i7. As expected, you can watch TV shows and movies through streaming services like iQiyi, and there’s even a karaoke function built in.

The sheer size of the TV means that the usual glass rear screen dividing the front and rear cabins has been reduced to a frosted sliver up top, meaning that there’s no way for those sitting up front to see the rear passengers. A second tablet-style display sits atop a large centre console.

Of course, none of this is visible from the outside, where the Grand looks almost identical to the regular 009. However, there are a few identifying touches, such as the dark chrome grille and the Rolls-Royce-like 20-inch polished dish wheels. One can also spot a new lidar sensor atop the windscreen, hinting at increased semi-autonomous driving capabilities.

The 009’s sheer size means there was no need to enlarge it to fit the four seats and barrage of displays, and still have near-infinite levels of rear legroom left over. Measuring 5,209 mm long, 2,024 mm wide and 1,848 mm tall, the car is already 199 mm longer, 174 mm wider and 102 mm lower than the Alphard, while its 3,205 mm wheelbase is a staggering 205 mm longer.

No technical details have been revealed just yet, but expect the Grand to feature the same dual-motor all-wheel-powertrain pushing out an astonishing 544 PS (400 kW) and 686 Nm. This flings the standard 009 from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, although the Grand’s extra weight will almost certainly add a few tenths of a second to the century sprint.

Also likely is a choice of 116 kWh and 140 kWh NMC batteries that, on the regular 009, deliver a range of 702 and 822 km respectively – albeit on the notoriously lenient CLTC cycle. The 116 kWh unit can be DC fast charged from 10 to 80% in 28 minutes. Expect the 009 Grand to make an appearance at Auto China in Beijing next week.

Zeekr to start sale of RHD 009 MPV and X SUV in 2024 – SEA-based EVs coming to Malaysia next year too?

Zeekr, the EV brand within the Geely group has announced that it is developing right-hand-drive models with plans to begin customer deliveries next year.

The electric vehicle brand is developing the Zeekr 009 and Zeekr X for regulatory and customer requirements globally, the brand announced, and deliveries of these models based on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) for Hong Kong and Macau markets will begin in the third quarter of 2024.

Zeekr has signed an agreement with Hong Kong-based Kam Lung Motor Group – which operates in the Greater Bay Area of Hong Kong, Guangdong and Macau – which has plans to build two Zeekr Space locations and one Zeekr House in Hong Kong, along with one Zeekr Space in Macau in the first half of 2024 to provide customers with sales and aftersales services and to “establish an all-stage service system.”

Having announced plans to sell vehicles in Europe, the Middle East and in Central Asia, Zeekr is also studying its possible entry into other right-hand-drive markets.

Zeekr to start sale of RHD 009 MPV and X SUV in 2024 – SEA-based EVs coming to Malaysia next year too?

Zeekr models could be among those from the wider Geely portfolio of EVs that may be introduced to the Malaysian market after the local introduction of the smart #1 as Zeekr intends to accelerate their NEV plans for the near future, following prior queries for official comment from Proton and Pro-Net.

While said arrival of EVs from within the wider Geely portfolio was not necessarily confirmed to be from the Zeekr brand, the aforementioned study for the brand’s entry into right-hand drive markets plays into the likelihood of its Malaysian market entry.

A Facebook post by smart Malaysia in April alluded to the arrival of EVs from Geely and Zeekr, and minister of international trade and industry Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz tweeted that he took a test drive in the Zeekr 001.

Zeekr 009 unveiled – single and dual motor EV MPV with up to 700 km range; on sale in China end of 2022

Geely group brand Zeekr has unveiled its latest product, the 009 MPV. This is a fully electric people-mover that takes aim at the luxury MPV segment populated by the likes of the Toyota Alphard.

The Zeekr 009 is, in fact is larger that the Japanese brand’s established offering; the Zeekr 009 measures 5,209 mm long, 2,024 mm wide and 1,856 mm tall with a wheelbase of 3,205 mm, according to Car News China, while the Alphard measures 4,945 mm long, 1,850 mm wide with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.

Based on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) which also underpins the EV brand’s first model, the 001, this makes the 009 the group’s first MPV to use the platform. Other vehicles within the group also on the SEA platform include the smart #1, Lotus Eletre electric SUV, and the Geely Radar RD6 EV pick-up truck.

Compared to the likes of the Alphard and Vellfire, the Zeekr 009 has a more pronounced bonnet along with more aggressive overall styling, where the main headlamps are topped with vertically-oriented LED DRLs which are mirrored by the motif in the front silver grille, extending all the way downwards. Geely calls this design the ‘Fountain of Light’, which consists of 154 LED strips.

Viewed from the side, the 009 rides on a set of multi-spoke wheels designed to mimic the staggered lines of the front grille. Its designers have included a ‘shark fin’ shape at the base of the C-pillar, where the window line slopes upwards to meet the gloss black pillar finished with a seven-strip pattern, itself topped by another set of staggered lines in gloss black.

Inside, the 009 offers a 2+2+2 seating configuration as standard, though a VIP version is understood to be also offered, providing just two seats in the passenger compartment, according to Car News China. From these images, the 009 can be seen to feature a sunroof over the first row of occupants, and a larger panoramic unit over the second and third rows.

Official details are scarce regarding the 009’s powertrain, though as it is based on the SEA platform, this is likely to accommodate a single- or dual-motor configuration, producing 272 hp and 544 hp respectively. These are available with battery packs of 86 kWh and 100 kWh capacities, and the larger battery mated to the single-motor powertrain will likely be the one to achieve the headline 700 km range on a single charge.

For reference, the Zeekr 001 that is also offered with these two battery capacities is rated for a maximum battery range of between 536 km and 732 km. Judging from the frontal exterior images of the 009, the electric MPV has provisions for ADAS features such as cameras and sensors, located on the lower part of the front bumper as well as behind the windscreen just ahead of the interior rear view mirror.

The Zeekr 009 full electric MPV is set to go on sale in China before the end of this year.
