Zeekr X EV launched in Malaysia – Premium RWD, Flagship AWD; up to 440 km range; RM156k to RM173k

Finally, the Zeekr X is now officially launched in Malaysia. The Premium RWD is priced at RM155,800 on-the-road without insurance, while the Flagship AWD goes for RM172,800. Together with the 009 luxury MPV, the X will kickstart the Geely-owned EV brand’s journey in Malaysia. Zeekr’s franchise holder is Sentinel Automotive.

Built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), the Zeekr X shares its platform with the smart #1 and #3, as well as the Volvo EX30. At 4,432 mm long and 1,836 mm wide, the Zeekr is 162 mm longer and 14 mm wider than the #1, but the smart feels bigger inside thanks to a much higher roof (+70 mm). Both share the same 2,750 mm wheelbase. The Volvo EX30 is the smallest of the lot – it’s 199 mm shorter than the Zeekr, and you really do feel the 100 mm shorter wheelbase.

The X is being offered in two variants, the Premium RWD and Flagship AWD. Both feature a nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery with a nett energy capacity of 66 kWh (69 kWh gross). The RWD WLTP range is 440 km, while the AWD trades 20 km of range (420 km) for extra performance.

Zeekr X EV launched in Malaysia – Premium RWD, Flagship AWD; up to 440 km range; RM156k to RM173k

The RWD’s electric motor is rated at 272 PS (200 kW) and 343 Nm of torque, which enables a 0-100 km/h time of 5.6 seconds. That’s pretty quick, but the AWD adds on another motor for 428 PS (315 kW), 543 Nm and a century sprint time of 3.8 seconds. Top speed is equal for both at 190 km/h.

As for charging, the max DC rate is 150 kW, and getting from 10-80% state of charge (SoC) takes around 30 minutes. AC charging is at 7.2 kW for the Premium RWD and 11 kW for the Flagship AWD – a full charge takes about seven hours. This means that of the SEA trio sold in Malaysia, only the smart offers 22 kW AC charging.

From the X’s funky exterior, you can tell the AWD apart by its larger 19-inch wheels (versus 18″) and so-called intelligent B-pillar that has a small screen to show the EV’s charging status. Also, black ‘X’ badge = AWD. Inside, the AWD impresses with a 13-speaker Yamaha sound system (seven-speaker setup in the RWD) and augmented reality head-up display with a 24.3-inch projection area.

Zeekr X EV launched in Malaysia – Premium RWD, Flagship AWD; up to 440 km range; RM156k to RM173k

Beyond these items, both Premium and Flagship trim levels are identical. Standard kit includes full LED headlamps, LED DRLs, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate and a wireless charger.

Safety wise, you get seven airbags and a full ADAS suite across the board. The pack includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane change assist, lane centring control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, front and rear cross traffic alert, assisted parking and driver monitoring.

As for colours, choose from Crystal White, Mist Grey, Grid Grey, Palace Beige and Pine Green. The sole interior theme is Charcoal Black and Stone Grey two-tone. Once again, the Zeekr X is priced at RM155,800 for the Premium RWD and RM172,800 for the Flagship AWD. The warranty is five years or 150,000 km for the vehicle and eight years or 160,000 km for the EV battery.

Here’s a gallery of the Zeekr X in Premium RWD guise, which is one of two variants offered for the fully electric crossover, with the other being the Flagship AWD. The X is currently open for order taking and is estimated to be priced below RM180,000 when it goes on sale in Malaysia.

The Premium RWD is the base variant in the X line-up and uses the same nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery with a net energy capacity of 66 kWh (69 kWh gross) as the range-topping Flagship AWD.

This powers a rear-mounted electric motor rated at 272 PS (268 hp or 200 kW) and 343 Nm of torque that enables a 0-100 km/h time of 5.6 seconds. The AWD variant is more powerful with a dual-motor setup making 428 PS (422 hp or 315 kW) and 543 Nm for a quicker century sprint time down to 3.8 seconds.

However, the RWD offers more range at 440 km following the WLTP standard compared to the AWD that provides 420 km. As for charging, both variants support DC fast charging at a peak capacity of 150 kW (10-80% state of charge in around 30 minutes) but the RWD’s AC charging capacity is limited to 7.2 kW instead of 11 kW that the AWD supports.

From the outside, the RWD is differentiated from the AWD by its smaller wheels that measure 18 inches instead of 19 inches, and there’s no intelligent B-pillar that sees a small screen to show the charging status.

As for the interior, the RWD comes with a seven-speaker sound system instead of the AWD’s 13-speaker Yamaha setup – you can spot the lack of tweeters on the front pillars. There’s also no augmented reality head-up display with a projection area of 24.3-inches.

Beyond these differences, the rest of the RWD is nearly identical to the AWD. Standard equipment for the X includes full LED headlamps, LED DRLs, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate and a wireless mobile phone charger.

Seven airbags and a full ADAS suite are included, the latter with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane change assist, lane centring control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, front and rear cross traffic alert, assisted parking and driver monitoring.

The X will be offered in five exterior colours, namely Crystal White, Mist Grey, Grid Grey, Palace Beige and Pine Green. Regardless of which you go with, the interior comes in a Charcoal Black and Stone Grey two-tone theme.

If you want to check out the X in-person, the crossover is currently on display alongside the 009 MPV (also available for booking) at Zeekr Malaysia’s new pop-up store located in Sunway Pyramid.

  • 2025 Zeekr X gets 25% price cut in China as price war mounts, now from RM83k for new 49 kWh base model

2025 Zeekr X gets 25% price cut in China as price war mounts, now from RM83k for new 49 kWh base model

The Zeekr X, which was only launched in China last year, has already been given a substantial price cut as the price war in the Middle Kingdom continues to mount.

The compact electric SUV, equipped with a 66 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, now retails at 165,000 yuan (RM101,400) for the single-motor version and 179,000 yuan (RM110,000) with all-wheel drive – down from the previous prices of 200,000 yuan (RM122,900) and 220,000 yuan (RM135,200) respectively.

New for the 2025 model year is an entry-level rear-wheel drive model with a 49 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, which Car News China reports was introduced in response to slow sales. This drops the starting price by 25.5% to 149,000 yuan (RM91,500), with a 15,000 yuan (RM9,200) government subsidy slashing this figure further to 134,900 yuan (RM82,800).

2025 Zeekr X gets 25% price cut in China as price war mounts, now from RM83k for new 49 kWh base model

The base 49 kWh model has a range of 420 km on the CLTC cycle, down from 560 km for the RWD 66 kWh version and 512 km with AWD. For reference, the smart #1 Pro with the same battery and 272 PS (200 kW) motor has a more realistic WLTP range of 315 km, compared to the 440 km achieved by the 66 kWh Premium (and the equivalent Zeekr X, incidentally).

Beyond that, the 49 kWh version’s performance figures remain identical to the 66 kWh’s, including peak torque of 343 Nm and a zero-to-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.8 seconds. Meanwhile, the AWD model pushes out 428 PS (315 kW) and 543 Nm, enabling the car to complete the century sprint in 3.7 seconds.

2025 Zeekr X gets 25% price cut in China as price war mounts, now from RM83k for new 49 kWh base model

Aside from the smaller battery option, the tweaks introduced for MY2025 are minor and include a new Oslo Black hue and a new 18-inch alloy wheel option with a pentagonal design, the latter already offered in other markets. The rest of the car, including its funky design, minimalist interior, large 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen (which can be slid over to the passenger’s side as an option), 13-speaker Yamaha sound system and available four-seat layout, is unchanged.

The Zeekr X is set to be launched in Malaysia soon, with the order books having already been open since early last month. Both 66 kWh RWD and AWD options are set to be offered here, estimated to be priced below the RM180,000. Would you like to see the cheaper 49 kWh model come to our shores? Sound off in the comments after the jump.

Zeekr X in Malaysia – Premium 2WD variant shown

With the order books opened for the Zeekr X in Malaysia earlier this month, the Chinese brand has shown pictures of the Premium 2WD on its Facebook page, depicted in the Genting Highlands area; the brand is taking registrations of interest, here.

This being the single-motor powertrain variant that starts from RM180k, the Zeekr X Premium 2WD slots beneath the Flagship AWD in the two-variant line-up, and the Premium 2WD shares its battery with its Flagship sibling, that being the nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery with 66 kWh of net capacity (69 kWh gross capacity).

Motive power for the Premium 2WD is a single 272 PS/343 Nm motor driving the rear wheels, propelling this variant of the Zeekr X from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.

For comparison, the Flagship AWD packs a 428 PS/543 Nm dual-motor powertrain driving all four wheels, enabling a 0-100 km/h run of 3.8 seconds. Naturally, the Premium 2WD does more range from the same battery at 440 km (WLTP), compared to the Flagship AWD’s range of 420 km (WLTP).

Both variants top out at 190 km/h, and support DC charging at up to 150 kW, with which it will take a 10-80% recharge in around 30 minutes. For AC charging, Singapore market specifications disclose a maximum capacity of 7.2 kW for the Premium RWD, and 11 kW for the Flagship AWD, bringing a full charge this way in around seven hours.

Exterior kit for the Zeekr X includes LED headlamps and DRLs, while inside it gets an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, plus seven airbags. ADAS kit includes AEB, adaptive cruise control, lane change assist, lane centring control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, front and rear cross traffic alert, assisted parking and driver monitoring.

Of the exterior colours available for the Zeekr X, this example is Pine Green, which will be joined in the selection by Crystal White, Mist Grey, Grid Grey and Palace Beige. Inside, upholstery comes in a single choice of two-tone scheme that is Charcoal Black and Stone Grey.

This being a SEA platform-based model, it shares its architecture with the smart #1 and #3, as well as the Volvo EX30. Which of these compact electric SUV models from the Geely group would get your pick? If the Zeekr X gets your attention, you can register your interest, here.

Zeekr X order taking started in Malaysia – up to 428 PS AWD, 440 km WLTP EV range; below RM180k est

Zeekr Malaysia has officially announced it is now accepting bookings for the Zeekr X – you can submit your interest here. If you aren’t aware of Zeekr, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker is a brand under Geely and its impending launch here has been known since June this year.

We’ll start with the most important thing: pricing. The X estimated at below RM180k. Built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), the X shares its platform with the smart #1 and #3 as well as the Volvo EX30.

Comparing starting prices among the SEA-based electric vehicles (EVs), the X at RM180k undercuts the EX30 which retails from RM188,888, but is more expensive than the #1 and #3 that start from RM169k and RM175k respectively. If you’re curious about the X’s size, here’s an overview of the four SEA-based models:

    Zeekr X

    • Length: 4,432 mm
    • Width: 1,836 mm

The X will be offered in two variants, namely the Premium RWD and Flagship AWD. This is similar to Singapore, which gets the electric crossover in rear- and all-wheel drive guises. Both variants feature a nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery with a net energy capacity of 66 kWh (69 kWh gross), with the Premium RWD capable of 440 km of range following the WLTP standard.

The base variant’s electric motor is rated at 272 PS (268 hp or 200 kW) and 343 Nm of torque, which enables a 0-100 km/h time of 5.6 seconds. As for the Flagship AWD, its dual-motor setup has outputs of 428 PS (422 hp or 315 kW) and 543 Nm for a century sprint time of 3.8 seconds at the expense of range that is up to 420 km.

Both have the same top speed of 190 km/h and support DC fast charging at a peak capacity of 150 kW, enabling a 10-80% state of charge in around 30 minutes. AC charging wasn’t mentioned but following Singapore’s spec, the max capacity should be 7.2 kW for the Premium RWD and 11 kW for the Flagship AWD – a full charge takes about seven hours.

Standard equipment for the X includes full LED headlamps, LED DRLs, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Seven airbags and a full ADAS suite are also mentioned, the latter including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane change assist, lane centring control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, front and rear cross traffic alert, assisted parking and driver monitoring.

The release also mentions five available colours: namely Crystal White, Mist Grey, Grid Grey, Palace Beige and Pine Green. Meanwhile, the interior only comes in a single two-tone scheme: Charcoal Black and Stone Grey.

So, what do you think of the Zeekr X? Would you pick it over other SEA-based EVs, namely the Volvo EX30 and smart #1? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

  • Zeekr X to launch in Australia in October – RWD and AWD from RM177k, 009 end-2024; Malaysia next?

Zeekr X to launch in Australia in October – RWD and AWD from RM177k, 009 end-2024; Malaysia next?

Zeekr is continuing its Asia-Pacific push with an upcoming expansion into the Australian market. Geely’s premium electric vehicle brand is launching its Zeekr X SUV there in October and has already released estimated pricing and initial specs, with pre-orders starting next month.

The car will be offered Down Under in rear- and all-wheel-drive forms, set to retail at under AU$60,000 (RM177,200) and AU$70,000 (RM206,800) respectively before on-the-road costs according to CarExpert. This means it should undercut the Volvo EX30, built on the same Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) – that car is priced at AU$59,990 (RM177,000) for the Single Motor Extended Range and AU$71,290 (RM210,400) for the Twin Motor Performance.

Mechanically, the cars destined for Australia will mirror those in other markets, with the RWD model getting a single motor producing 272 PS (200 kW) and 343 Nm of torque – getting it from zero to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. Buyers opting for the AWD model get a second motor that pushes outputs to 428 PS (315 kW) and 543 Nm of torque, slashing the century sprint time to 3.8 seconds. If those figures sound familiar to you, that’s because the motors are shared with both the EX30 and the smart #1 and #3.

Zeekr X to launch in Australia in October – RWD and AWD from RM177k, 009 end-2024; Malaysia next?

Also shared with those cars is a 66 kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery that provides a WLTP-rated range of 440 km on the RWD model and 420 km with AWD. All variants will support up to 150 kW of DC fast charging, topping up the battery from 10 to 80% in around 30 minutes. The RWD model also accepts up to 7.2 kW of AC charging that takes 11.5 hours for a full charge, while the AWD’s 11 kW on-board charger shortens that figure to 7.5 hours.

Standard equipment in Australia includes a black panoramic glass roof, heated mirrors, 19-inch alloy wheels, a smartphone digital key, dual-zone climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, two-tone faux leather upholstery, an 8.8-inch digital instrument display, a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, seven speakers and a 360-degree camera system.

The AWD model adds a powered passenger seat, driver’s side memory and heating and ventilation functions for both front seats, as well as a heated steering wheel, a 24.3-inch augmented reality head-up display, “Ice Block” ambient lighting, a 13-speaker Yamaha sound system and an “intelligent” B-pillar display for showing information such as charging status.

Zeekr X to launch in Australia in October – RWD and AWD from RM177k, 009 end-2024; Malaysia next?

Safety-wise, all models get seven airbags and a full complement of driver assistance systems. The latter includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, lane change assist, evasive steering assist, blind spot monitoring, front and rear cross traffic alert, reverse and parking AEB, park assist, a driver attention monitor and a door opening warning.

With Thailand and Singapore already receiving the X, and Hong Kong getting the revised 009 MPV (the latter will also be sold in Australia by the end of the year), Zeekr appears to be well on its way to ticking off all its planned right-hand-drive APAC markets. This even includes Japan, where showrooms will be built in the fourth quarter ahead of an official launch in early 2025, CnEVPost reports.

Malaysia should be next on the list – the company has already held private previews of the X here and appointed Sentinel Automotive as its distributor, while test units of the 009 have been sighted out and about in public. The brand is set to debut some time this year, probably around the same time as Australia.

Zeekr X coming to Malaysia – EV crossover with plenty of premium features, up to 428 PS; from RM160k here?

The Zeekr 009 isn’t the only electric vehicle (EV) coming our way, as the large MPV will also be joined by the X when the Chinese brand makes its launch debut in Malaysia this year. Aimed at those that prefer a crossover, the X is Zeekr’s third model revealed last February that shares its platform with other EVs that are part the Geely Auto Group, namely the smart #1 and #3 as well as the Volvo EX30.

Said platform is the SEA2 version of the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) dedicated to vehicles with wheelbases going up to 2,900 mm. The X is relatively larger than the other SEA-based models mentioned at the start, and here are the figures for comparison:

    Zeekr X

    • Length: 4,450 mm
    • Width: 1,836 mm
    • Height: 1,572 mm
    • Wheelbase: 2,750 mm

    smart #1

    • Length: 4,270 mm
    • Width: 1,822 mm
    • Height: 1,636 mm
    • Wheelbase: 2,750 mm

Zeekr X coming to Malaysia – EV crossover with plenty of premium features, up to 428 PS; from RM160k here?

    smart #3

    • Length: 4,440 mm
    • Width: 1,844 mm
    • Height: 1,566 mm
    • Wheelbase: 2,785 mm

    Volvo EX30

    • Length: 4,233 mm
    • Width: 1,836 mm
    • Height: 1,550 mm
    • Wheelbase: 2,650 mm

As you can see, only the smart #3 comes close to the X in terms of size, and if we expand the scope to include EVs that aren’t from the Geely Auto Group, the Zeekr EV is larger than offerings the MG4 EV and ZS EV as well as the GWM Ora Good Cat.

There are EVs that come close to the X, which are the Chery Omoda E5 and BYD Atto 3, the latter being slightly longer overall by 5 mm but 30 mm down on wheelbase. However, the X differs significantly from such EVs by offering features that some might consider unique for a vehicle of this size.

Before going into that, let’s talk styling. With its prominent lines and sharp contours, the X is a striking EV that some might find more appealing to look at than the “pebble-like” smart EVs and “conservative” EX30.

Like the 009, there’s dual-tier lighting setup here, with the upper section being the LED daytime running lights presented in a “flipped lowercase H” design. The main headlamps sit further down and blend into the trim that extends out from the tip of the nose towards the vertical air curtains.

There’s no conventional grille in sight, although there is a lower intake decorated in gloss black trim to match the wheel arches, rocker panels and rear apron. Under the bonnet, you’ll find a tiny frunk with a capacity of just 21 litres to complement the rear boot space offering 362 litres.

Down the sides, the X eschews door handles in favour of buttons on the pillars, with the B-pillars also hiding a small display to show the charging status when plugged in. A sloping roofline leading to a small spoiler is also part of the vehicle profile, along with a window line that swings upwards. If you’re curious about the location of the charge port, it is under a door just above the left-rear wheel.

As for the rear, the X sports full-width, 3D-effect taillights in a double U design with an illuminated Zeekr script in the middle. The tailgate also provides a wide aperture to the boot and it appears bowed out with a crease line that trails down to the slim, vertical reflectors.

Despite the segment it resides in, many of the X’s exterior body components are power operated (it’s one of the selling points of this EV), including the charge port door, rear tailgate and even the front doors. Yes, the front doors can be opened and closed at a touch of button like you would find on a Rolls-Royce, although this is offered as an option in China.

On that mention, the X in China is offered in two variants that are both priced from 200,000 yuan, which is about RM130k. If the X was sold here at about RM150k-RM160k, is does seem pretty enticing when compared to the alternatives, don’t you think?

One key difference between the available X variants in China is the number of seats – five or four – with the four-seater having an additional option when it comes to powertrains that customers can choose from (more on that later).

Zeekr X coming to Malaysia – EV crossover with plenty of premium features, up to 428 PS; from RM160k here?

Inside, the X follows in the footsteps of the 009 by having a dashboard that is nearly devoid of physical controls. Ahead of the driver is a two-spoke steering wheel and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, the former curiously with quick access buttons for functions such as the demisters, vehicle locks, tailgate opening and 360-degree camera. There are also D-pad buttons on the spokes which are not labelled, so there is a bit of a learning curve.

All vehicle functions can be accessed via the 14.6-inch touchscreen, which isn’t limited to staying in place in the middle of the dash. As an option, the touchscreen can be “sent over” to the front passenger by swiping four fingers to the right (as is the case with the left-hand drive units we were introduced to) for a one-person entertainment experience.

The touchscreen isn’t the only thing that’s powered inside the cabin because the centre console can also slide backwards by about 20 cm at a touch of a button on the front passenger side. This serves to provide rear passengers with access to the centre console while also making it easier to slide over and exit from the other side if parked in a tight spot.

If that isn’t enough, the centre console has an integrated 50W wireless charger, plenty of storage as well as a rear half that is modular and can be removed to make room for an optional refrigerator. Zeekr touts the X as a premium crossover, and it certainly looks to fit the bill given the kit on offer.

To drive that point home further, the front seats are 10-way power-adjustable with heating and ventilation functions. In the four-seat variant, the front passenger seat has a zero-gravity function that essentially puts it in “airplane mode” to better enjoy the “mini cinema” and stress-relief vibration function.

The rear seats aren’t devoid of motors either, as the seat bottoms can be tilted up electronically to create what Zeekr calls a ‘Pet Yard’ so your fur kids don’t dirty the leather upholstery. Other features include a 13-speaker Yamaha sound system, a head-up display, variant-specific coloured interior trim as well as dual-zone climate control with CN95 filtration, a fragrance system and B-pillar rear air vents.

In terms of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), the X comes standard with one forward-facing camera, four surround cameras, five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars and one in-car monitoring camera.

These enable functions such as full-speed active cruise control, lane change assist, automatic parking assist (with remote control), remote parking control, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane centring, blind spot monitoring, door opening warning, traffic sign recognition, cross traffic alert (front and rear) and low-speed rear AEB.

Finally, powertrains. All versions of the X are equipped with a nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery with an energy capacity of 66 kWh. The five-seat variant gets dual-motor setup rated at 428 PS (422 hp or 315 kW) and 543 Nm of torque, and is good for a 0-100 km/h time of 3.7 seconds and up to 512 km of range following the generous CLTC standard.

The four-seat variant comes with a single motor at the rear by default with 272 PS (268 hp or 200 kW) and 343 Nm, which is accompanied by a century sprint time of 5.8 seconds. As an option, this variant can also be had with the same dual-motor setup as the five-seater, although the 0-100 km/h time is slightly more at 3.8 seconds. The four-seater with a single motor does up to 560 km, while the dual-motor offers 500 km.

Zeekr X coming to Malaysia – EV crossover with plenty of premium features, up to 428 PS; from RM160k here?

For charging, the X supports a maximum DC input of 150 kW which gets the battery from a 10-80% state of charge in around 28 minutes. There’s also support for AC charging at up to 22 kW, with a full charge requiring around four hours.

The X uses MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear, but there’s no air springs or adaptive damping. Wheels measure 19 inches as standard, with the upgrade path being 20-inch forged units that are joined by Akebano four-piston brake calipers and cross-drilled rotors at the front.

It’s pretty clear that the X aims to deliver a more premium experience when compared to other EVs mentioned in this post, but would you shell out your hard-earned cash for it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

  • Zeekr X SUV coming to Malaysia – new Geely EV to take on BYD Atto 3, same platform as smart #1

Zeekr X SUV coming to Malaysia – new Geely EV to take on BYD Atto 3, same platform as smart #1

News regarding Zeekr’s arrival in Malaysia have been coming thick and fast ever since an invite for a private preview was leaked last week, confirming the brand’s planned debut. It was reported on Car News China yesterday that Geely’s premium electric vehicle offshoot has signed local firm Sentinel Automotive to be its official distributor, with the Zeekr X and 009 set to be the first models to be sold here.

The volume seller will obviously be the X, a compact premium SUV that is set to lock horns with cars like the new MINI Countryman SE and BMW iX1. Measuring 4,450 mm long, 1,836 mm wide and 1,572 mm tall, it’s mere millimetres shorter (-5 mm), narrower (-39 mm) and lower (-43 mm) than another Chinese EV, the BYD Atto 3, while its 2,750 mm wheelbase is just 30 mm longer.

However, the X is set to be quite a bit more expensive than the Atto 3 – in China, the latter tops out at 147,800 yuan (RM96,200), whereas the Zeekr retails at 200,000 yuan (RM130,200). As a result, you can expect the X to be priced closer to the RM200,000 mark, occupying a similar territory to the smart #1.

Zeekr X SUV coming to Malaysia – new Geely EV to take on BYD Atto 3, same platform as smart #1

That’s not surprising, given that the Zeekr is based on the same Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA3) as the smart #1 (as well as the #3 and the Volvo EX30). It also uses the same powertrain and battery options as its sibling, with a choice of single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants.

The single-motor model produces 272 PS (200 kW) and 343 Nm of torque, getting the car from zero to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. Meanwhile, the AWD version churns out 428 PS (315 kW) and 543 Nm, hurling the X to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. If those figures sound familiar, it’s because they’re exactly the same as the smart #1 Premium and Brabus.

Also shared with those cars is a 66 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery that provides a range of 560 km for the RWD model and 512 km for the AWD car. Those figures are on the rather optimistic CLTC cycle in China; expect real-world range to be closer to 440 km and 400 km respectively quoted for the smart #1 (both on the WLTP cycle). No charging details have been released, but expect the X to accept up to 150 kW of DC fast charging just like the #1, taking 30 minutes to charge from 10 to 80%.

Zeekr X SUV coming to Malaysia – new Geely EV to take on BYD Atto 3, same platform as smart #1

Zeekr was carved out of Lynk & Co, and the X still bears remnants of that brand’s design language, replete with split headlights (with H-shaped upper daytime running lights, first seen on the The Next Day concept), upswept window line, contrasting black roof and full-width taillight bar. Diagonal character lines on the bumpers and body side give the car a dynamic, youthful look.

Inside, you’ll find a minimalist cabin with a slim horizontal dashboard, “squircle” two-spoke steering wheel and a sliding centre console box similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (replete with a refrigerator!). Of course, there are screens galore, including an 8.8-inch digital instrument display, a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen (which can be slid to the passenger side) and a massive 24.3-inch augmented reality head-up display.

Other notable features include power-opening doors, a 13-speaker Yamaha sound system and even a display on the B-pillar that can show the state of charging, plus a camera that can use facial recognition to unlock the door. Unusually for such a small car, the X can be had as either a four- or five-seater.

Right-hand-drive production for the X has reportedly kicked off in China last week, with first deliveries set for the third quarter of this year. The car will likely debut in Zeekr’s global launch markets such as Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong first, but expect it to come to Malaysia not long after.

  • Zeekr appoints Sentinel Automotive as Malaysian partner – X SUV and 009 MPV due in later this year

Zeekr appoints Sentinel Automotive as Malaysian partner – X SUV and 009 MPV due in later this year

Last week, Zeekr held a private preview of its Zeekr X SUV in Malaysia, indicating that the Geely-owned EV brand was on its way in to Malaysia. Now, that has been confirmed, with the Chinese company announcing that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Sentinel Automotive, which will be its local partner in Malaysia. It also inked a similar agreement with PT Premium Auto Prima in Indonesia, CarNewsChina reports.

The company will set up its first Malaysian outlet in Kuala Lumpur, with stores in other major areas such as Penang and Selangor also expected to be built later this year, and these will begin selling the X SUV and Zeekr 009 MPV, the first two models announced for both the Malaysian and Indonesian markets.

The automotive news site added that the first right-hand drive versions of the X rolled off the production line in China last week, with overseas deliveries expected to begin in the third quarter of this year, essentially indicating when the brand will make its debut here.

Zeekr appoints Sentinel Automotive as Malaysian partner – X SUV and 009 MPV due in later this year

The X, which is underpinned by Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, is sold in China in single-motor RWD or dual-motor AWD forms. The single-motor version has 272 PS (200 kW) and 343 Nm in the way of output, and this allows the SUV to accomplish the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.8 seconds. As for the AWD, it has 428 PS (315 kW) and 543 Nm, which brings the century sprint time down to 3.8 seconds.

If those figures sound familiar, they are, identical to that of the smart #1 Premium and Brabus. The similarities continue with the batteries, with a 66 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) unit offering 560 km of travel for the RWD and 512 km for the AWD, on a CLTC cycle (real-world range should be closer to the respective 440 km and 400 km quoted for the smart #1 in the WLTP cycle). As for charging, 150 kW of DC charging gets the battery from 10 to 80% SoC in 30 minutes for the smart, so that for the Zeekr should be similar .

As for the 009, it’s luxury EV MPV that is longer, wider and sits lower than the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire, so it’s not puny. In its domestic market, the 009 runs with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, and with 544 PS (400 kW) and 686 Nm on tap, the big MPV can haul rapidly, doing the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 4.8 seconds. Two NMC battery choices are available, 116 kWh and 140 kWh, and these offer a CLTC range of 702 and 822 km respectively.

  • Zeekr confirmed coming to Malaysia – Zeekr X SUV is Geely-owned EV brand’s first model, 009 MPV next?

Zeekr is coming soon to Malaysia! An invitation to a private preview event is circulating online at the moment and it says that the event was held at Grand Hyatt KL this morning.

“This exciting new brand is set to launch in Malaysia soon. Join us for a morning of exploration and innovation. Representatives from Zeekr will be present to share insights about the company’s vision and its revolutionary products. You’ll also have the opportunity to see the Zeekr X, a compact luxury SUV, up close,” the invite said.

Two things are confirmed then – the Geely-owned EV brand coming to Malaysia, and the Zeekr X being the model to kickstart the brand’s entry in our market.

Zeekr confirmed coming to Malaysia – Zeekr X SUV is Geely-owned EV brand’s first model, 009 MPV next?

The Zeekr X sits on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, which also underpins the group’s other EVs like the smart #1, smart #3 and the Volvo EX30. At 4,450 mm long and 1,836 mm wide, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, the X is around the size of a MINI Countryman, but has sharp lines and details. You can call it futuristic-looking, I suppose.

The X is available in single-motor RWD or dual-motor AWD versions, the former producing 272 PS (200 kW) and 343 Nm of torque good for 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. The AWD makes 428 PS (315 kW) and 543 Nm, and does the century sprint in just 3.8 seconds. If those figures sound familiar, they’re shared with the smart #1 Premium and Brabus.

Also shared with smart are the batteries – a 66 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) unit that provides a range of 560 km for the RWD and 512 km for the AWD. Those are CLTC figures, so expect real-world range to be closer to 440 km and 400 km respectively, as quoted for the smart #1 in the WLTP cycle). The smart takes in 150 kW of DC juice, which raises the power bar from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes.

Zeekr confirmed coming to Malaysia – Zeekr X SUV is Geely-owned EV brand’s first model, 009 MPV next?

Notable features on the X include power-opening doors, a 13-speaker Yamaha sound system and even a display on the B-pillar that can show the state of charging, plus a camera that can use facial recognition to unlock the door. Unusually for such a small car, the X can be had as either a four- or five-seater; the car you see here, which we shot at Bangkok 2024, is the latter.

What’s next from Zeekr? We’re putting our bet on the 009, as the luxury EV MPV is the launch partner of the X in other right-hand-drive markets such as Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Singapore. At 5,209 mm long, 2,024 mm wide and 1,848 mm tall, the 009 is 199 mm longer, 174 mm wider and 102 mm lower than the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire, while the EV’s 3,205 mm wheelbase is a 205 mm longer than the luxury MPV benchmark.

In China, this land yacht has dual-motor all-wheel drive with 544 PS (400 kW) and 686 Nm, capable of pushing this beast from 0-100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. Buyers get a choice of 116 kWh and 140 kWh NMC batteries that deliver a CLTC range of 702 and 822 km respectively.

What do you think of the Zeekr X’s rather unique design compared to the smart #1, smart #3 and upcoming Volvo EX30?

Bangkok 2024: Zeekr makes ASEAN debut – LHD Zeekr X, 009 and 007 EVs, coming to Malaysia soon?

    Zeekr X

Geely’s premium electric vehicle brand Zeekr has already confirmed it will be selling cars in Southeast Asia, and its appearance at the Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) is its statement of intent. The company will be represented in Thailand by Arun Plus, a joint venture between MGC Asia and petroleum giant PTT, which will also distribute the Xpeng brand.

A total of three cars – all built on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) – are being showcased in the Land of Smiles, these being the Zeekr X, 009 and 007. The first two are already open for booking and will arrive in the country in the third quarter of the year, with the 007 being a little further out. All three show cars are left-hand-drive units, with the conversion to right-hand drive still ongoing.

    Zeekr X

Bangkok 2024: Zeekr makes ASEAN debut – LHD Zeekr X, 009 and 007 EVs, coming to Malaysia soon?

Let’s start with what will almost certainly be the most attainable of the lot, the Zeekr X. Based on the same SEA3 platform as the smart #1 (as well as the #3 and the Volvo EX30), it’s a fashionable compact SUV in much the same vein as the new MINI Countryman, being around the same size – 4,450 mm long, 1,836 mm wide and 1,572 mm, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase.

Bangkok 2024: Zeekr makes ASEAN debut – LHD Zeekr X, 009 and 007 EVs, coming to Malaysia soon?

Other notable features include power-opening doors, a 13-speaker Yamaha sound system and even a display on the B-pillar that can show the state of charging, plus a camera that can use facial recognition to unlock the door. The car you see here is dressed in a two-tone blue and white interior colour scheme and comes with rose gold highlights, which together look pretty swish. Unusually for such a small car, the X can be had as either a four- or five-seater; the latter is shown here.

The Zeekr X is available in single-motor rear-wheel-drive or dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions, the former producing 272 PS (200 kW) and 343 Nm of torque and getting the car from zero to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. Meanwhile, the AWD version makes 428 PS (315 kW) and 543 Nm, hurling the X to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

    Zeekr 009

Bangkok 2024: Zeekr makes ASEAN debut – LHD Zeekr X, 009 and 007 EVs, coming to Malaysia soon?

Next up is the Zeekr 009, a massive land yacht of an MPV that’s much bigger than the already humongous Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. It’s built on the larger SEA1 platform and is essentially a twin to the Volvo EM90. Measuring 5,209 mm long, 2,024 mm wide and 1,848 mm tall, the 009 is 199 mm longer, 174 mm wider and 102 mm lower than the Alphard, while its 3,205 mm wheelbase is a staggering 205 mm longer.

The faintly ridiculous dimensions should not only afford the 009 with plenty of space but also a heaping amount of road presence, further emphasised by the bluff surfacing and a giant Rolls-Royce-style chrome-plated and illuminated “smart grille.” Step inside and you’re greeted with six luxurious seats (including the prerequisite business class-style captain’s chairs on the second row), wrapped in Nappa leather that even coats the second-row folding tables.

Adding to the sense of luxury are features like a massage function for the front passenger and second-row seats, 20 Yamaha-branded speakers (including in the headrests for the driver and second row) and double glazing that reaches all the way back to the third row. You also get a 10.25-inch instrument display, a 15.4-inch centre touchscreen and a separate 15.6-inch ceiling-mounted monitor for the second row, which also get one-touch meeting and theatre modes for the rear screen, seats and sunshades.

In China, all models get dual-motor all-wheel drive that makes an astonishing 544 PS (400 kW) and 686 Nm, flinging this behemoth to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. Buyers get a choice of 116 kWh and 140 kWh NMC batteries that deliver a CLTC-rated range of 702 and 822 km respectively. Again, there are no charging details, only that the 116 kWh battery can be DC fast charged from 10 to 80% in 28 minutes.

    Zeekr 007

Bangkok 2024: Zeekr makes ASEAN debut – LHD Zeekr X, 009 and 007 EVs, coming to Malaysia soon?

Last but not least is the Zeekr 007, a sedan that shares not just its numerals with Britain’s beloved fictional spy but also his sharp suit. This is the first model to feature a completely separate design language from Lynk & Co, dominated by the Stargate front mask that houses 1,711 LEDs and can be customised to show different images or messages.

The clean, organic design features very little in the way of ornamentation – there aren’t even any door handles as the doors open automatically, like the Zeekr X (the car you see here is clearly a low-spec model with door handles and, criminally, no Stargate panel). Inside, the 007 shares a similar design with the X, albeit with a full centre console with Tesla-style dual Qi wireless chargers.

Bangkok 2024: Zeekr makes ASEAN debut – LHD Zeekr X, 009 and 007 EVs, coming to Malaysia soon?

The tech, however, has moved on quite a bit – you get a 13-inch instrument display, a 15-inch OLED touchscreen and a 35.5-inch (!) head-up display. Other features include reclining rear seats, a glass roof, an in-house-developed 21-speaker sound system, magnetorheological dampers, a Tesla Model 3-style one-piece rear windscreen/glass roof panel and a roof-mounted lidar sensor to augment the car’s advanced driver assistance systems.

Like the Zeekr X, the 007 can be had either in single-motor RWD form with 421 PS (310 kW) and 440 Nm or in dual-motor AWD trim with an impressive 646 PS (475 kW) and 710 Nm. The century sprint is completed in 5.6 and 3.8 seconds respectively, although bizarrely there’s a performance version that can fling itself to 100 km/h in just 2.84 seconds (excluding rollout) – despite having the same amount of power.

Bangkok 2024: Zeekr makes ASEAN debut – LHD Zeekr X, 009 and 007 EVs, coming to Malaysia soon?

Range figures are 688 km with the RWD model and 616 km with AWD, both with a 75 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The performance model has a larger 100 kWh NMC battery and has a claimed range of 660 km. With an 800-volt architecture, a sufficiently high-powered DC fast charger will be able to provide 610 km of range with just 15 minutes of charging.

Aside from the Land of Smiles, Zeekr will also be sold in Singapore, the Philippines, Laos and Myanmar. No word on Malaysia yet, with the brand only saying it will be “studying different markets.” Could it arrive here one day under Proton subsidiary Pro-Net, alongside smart? Only time will tell.

Zeekr X revealed as brand’s third model – all-new EV crossover is larger than the smart #1; from RM127k est

After some teasing, Zeekr has released the first official photos of its third model without any camouflage. Instead of being called the 003, Geely’s offshoot electric vehicle company has chosen to call its new offering the Zeekr X, which is a little surprising given its first two models are called the 001 and 009.

Details are limited for now, but Chinese media outlets report that the fully electric crossver will make its public debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April before going on sale within the year – the expected starting price is from 200,000 yuan (RM126,560).

Built on Geely’s Scalable Electric Architecture (SEA) that is also used by the smart #1, the X measures 4,450 mm long, 1,836 mm wide and 1,572 mm, with a wheelbase that spans 2,750 mm. While the overall length is more than previously expected, the X’s wheelbase is identical to the #1. It also also longer by 180 mm and wider by 14 mm, although the height is down by 64 mm.

In terms of styling, the X is certainly striking to look at with its distinctive LED daytime running lights that bear resemblance to those on the 009. The DRLs are part of a two-tier lighting setup, with the main headlamps (featuring matrix lighting technology) flanking the camera on the closed-off “grille.”

Meanwhile, vertical air curtains at the edges of the bumper are accompanied by additional black trim and extend towards the trapezoidal-shaped intake in the lower apron. The bonnet also gets prominent creases, as do the vehicle’s sides that sport black body cladding.

You’ll also notice the curious perch points of the side mirrors and beltline that sweeps up towards the thick C-pillars. Progressing towards the rear, the roofline gently slopes down towards a roof spoiler and rather upright window, the latter joined by full-width taillights at its base. Other elements are a diffuser-like lower apron and vertical reflectors that mimic what you see at the front.

Based on spyshots, the X’s dashboard is styled in a minimalistic manner, with a nearly vertical dashboard that houses a small digital instrument cluster and large touchscreen infotainment system. The centre console between the front seats is kept separate from the centre stack and carries an armrest as well as storage cubbies.

Reports suggest the X will get the same powertrain options as the #1, with single-motor, rear-wheel drive and dual-motor, all-wheel drive setups. Power outputs range from 272 PS (268 hp or 200 kW) to 428 PS (422 hp or 315 kW), and the battery will likely have an energy capacity of 66 kWh.
