Bermaz Auto has a prominent tri-brand booth at the ongoing paultan.org Premium Auto Car Expo (PACE) 2025, July 19-20, Setia City Convention Centre, and you absolutely need to stop by to check out the best of what Mazda, Kia and Xpeng have to offer.

Get up close with the Mazda CX-60, the upcoming flagship SUV that’s already open for booking in Malaysia at an estimated price of just over RM200k. A 2.5 litre four-cylinder engine sends 191 PS and 261 Nm of torque to the back wheels via an eight-speed auto. You get goodies such as 20-inch alloys, a panoramic sunroof, a hands-free powered tailgate, 12 Bose speakers, eight airbags and full ADAS.

Joining the CX-60 on the show floor is the MX-5, a modern classic, while test drives are also available for the Mazda 3, CX-30 as well as the turbo petrol and turbodiesel variants of the CX-5. Book a CX-5 at PACE 2025 or by August 31 and you’ll get a free 4D3N Japan trip (flights and accommodation for one included) which includes a Mazda Heritage Museum tour – a must-see for Mazda fans.

Moving on to Kia, you’ll bask in the presence of the Sportage and EV9. The Sportage can be had with a 2.0 litre naturally-aspirated engine (154 hp/192 Nm, six-speed auto) or a 1.6 litre turbo-four (177 hp/265 Nm, seven-speed DCT), and there’s even an AWD with differential lock option for the range-topping 1.6T.

Kit highlights include full ADAS, 18-inch wheels, projector LED headlamps, a powered tailgate, two 12.3-inch screens and eight Harman Kardon speakers. Book a Sportage at PACE 2025 for a special rebate and a chance in Bermaz Auto’s bonanza dip with prizes worth RM180,000 up for grabs!

Meanwhile, the EV9 is a true head-turner. The large EV SUV comes in six- and seven-seat flavours, both in GT-Line guise and with a 385 PS/700 Nm two-motor AWD setup. A 99.8-kWh lithium-ion battery yields a 505 km WLTP range, and you’ll get from 10-80% in 24 minutes at 350 kW DC. And how about 14 Meridian speakers and cameras instead of side mirrors?

Last but not least, there’s the Xpeng G6 SUV and X9 MPV. You can have the G6 in Standard Range (66 kWh LFP, 435 km WLTP) and Long Range (87.5 kWh NMC, 570 km WLTP) flavours. Both are one-motor RWD and top out at 200 km/h – the Standard Range packs 259 PS and 440 Nm of torque for a 6.6-second 0-100 km/h time, while the Long Range has 286 PS and 440 Nm of torque for a 6.2-second century sprint time.

Charging? Both variants can swallow up to 11 kW AC, while the max DC rates are 215 kW for the Standard Range and 280 kW for the Long Range (this gets you from 10-80% in 20 minutes). Vehicle-to-load (V2L) turns your G6 into a massive powerbank, so you can really enjoy those camping trips.

Want a G6? PACE 2025 is the place to get one, because you’ll take home a free 11 kW AC wallbox charger worth RM5,000 (including basic installation charges) if you plump for the Long Range. You’ll also get RM5,000 savings on your insurance premium. How’s that for a five-plus-five deal?

Or maybe you want seven seats – the Xpeng X9 is where inner space meets outer space. Like the G6, the MPV is an 800-volt EV and charges from 10-80% in as little as 20 minutes, regardless of whether you go for the Standard Range 2WD Pro (84.5 kWh LFP, 500 km WLTP), the Long Range 2WD Pro or the Long Range 2WD Pro Plus (both 101.5 kWh NMC, 590 km WLTP).

No matter the variant, you get dual-chamber air suspension, rear-wheel steering (up to five degrees), 20-inch wheels, auto headlamps and wipers, acoustic glass, a panoramic glass roof, a powered tailgate and 3.3 kW V2L. You’ll also find a 10.25-inch instrument panel, 17.3-inch touch-screen, dual 50-watt wireless chargers, 12-way powered seats (with memory, heating, ventilation and massage) and headrest speakers for the driver.

If you’re one of the first 200 people to book a new vehicle at PACE 2025, you’ll receive RM3,000 worth of vouchers from our supporting partners (including Solar Gard, Dodomat, The Carage, Kuzig Glanz, Gintell and DK Schweizer) and enter a lucky draw which could win you anything from 10 smartphones worth RM3,500 each to the grand prize of a holiday package for two worth RM25,000!

2024 Mazda CX-5 facelift launching in Malaysia on Jan 30 – units begin arriving in dealerships; from RM149k?

The wait for the Mazda CX-5 facelift continues, but it looks like we won’t be waiting for much longer. In December last year, it was reported that the refreshed C-segment SUV would make its Malaysian launch debut in January this year, and it looks like dealers have begun receiving units ahead of a launch on January 30.

UPDATE: Bermaz Motor has confirmed the official launch date of the facelifted CX-5 on Mazda Malaysia’s social media pages. This post has been updated accordingly.

Visual changes that mark out the facelifted CX-5 include redesigned headlamps with a more expressive dual-element LED DRL light signature. The grille also gets a 3D-effect mesh insert and a revised lower surround that is thicker and no longer cuts into the light clusters.

Elsewhere, the taillights have also been reshaped and mimic the light signature seen at the front, with other notable revisions being reflectors that are placed slightly further away from the exhaust outlets. The bumper is also new and has a simpler design that sees the omission of the corner fog lamps, while new alloy wheel designs have been introduced.

Inside, the updated CX-5 doesn’t look that much different, retaining the same dashboard layout and controls as before. A new addition here is a Qi wireless charging pad under the climate controls, along with the Mazda intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) drive mode selector.

Based on a previous leak, the facelifted CX-5 will come in six variants, which are listed together with prices (not official) below:

    • Mazda CX-5 2.0G 2WD Mid – RM149,469.20
    • Mazda CX-5 2.0G 2WD High – RM166,469.20
    • Mazda CX-5 2.5G 2WD High – RM179,960.40
    • Mazda CX-5 2.2D 2WD High – RM185,322.80
    • Mazda CX-5 2.5T AWD High – RM193,760.40

These prices are on-the-road without insurance for Peninsular Malaysia and with standard metallic colours. Should you want premium finishes like Soul Red Crystal and Machine Grey, you’ll need to fork out an extra RM3,300. On the mention of colours, the CX-5 will gain a new option in the form of Polymetal Grey.

If you’re curious if the leaked prices are higher than the pre-facelift model, they are. The soon-to-be-replaced “old” CX-5 currently retails for between RM136,069.20 to RM187,060.40, so the increases are between RM9,990 to RM10,400 depending on variant. Keep in mind that this is based on leaked prices, so we’ll have to wait until the official launch to see if it becomes the case.

Similarly, equipment upgrades that are expected include support for wireless Apple CarPlay on more variants in addition to wired Android Auto and revised advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) suite. On the latter, the facelifted CX-5 was announced with a new Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS) function, which helps reduce driver fatigue by assisting with accelerator, brake pedal and steering operations when stuck in traffic jams.

2024 Mazda CX-5 facelift leaked price list

We expect the new CX-5 to retain the same powertrains as before, with the ‘2.0’ variants featuring a 2.0 litre naturally-aspirated inline-four petrol engine making 162 hp and 213 Nm of torque. For the sole ‘2.5’ variant, the 2.5 litre NA four-cylinder petrol unit serves up 192 hp and 258 Nm.

Meanwhile, the only ‘2.5T’ variant comes with 2.5 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine making 228 hp and 420 Nm, while the only turbodiesel variant (2.2D 2WD High) packs a 2.2 litre four-cylinder unit with 188 hp and 450 Nm. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard across the CX-5 range, and only the ‘2.5T’ variant gets all-wheel drive – the rest are front-wheel drive.

With units arriving at dealerships and a launch date set for next Tuesday, are you looking forward to facelifted CX-5 going on sale?

  • Bermaz Auto to launch Mazda CX-5 facelift in Jan 2024 – CX-60, new Kia Sportage, Carens also due next year

Bermaz Auto to launch Mazda CX-5 facelift in Jan 2024 – CX-60, new Kia Sportage, Carens also due next year

According to MIDF Research (as reported by The Edge), Bermaz Auto will introduce the facelifted Mazda CX-5 in January 2024 at a higher price. The updated SUV has already been sighted in Malaysia in November this year, and earlier this month, we received leaked details that seemingly confirms a five-variant line-up and some of the changes made to the model.

The research house also said another model in the pipeline is the CX-60, which made its global debut in March last year and has since gone on sale in several ASEAN markets such as Singapore, Indonesia as well as the Philippines.

The CX-3 facelift was also mentioned, which could be referencing the minor styling updates made to the compact SUV that was announced in Japan in September – take this with a pinch of salt. The imported-from-Thailand CX-3 has already been updated earlier this month, with revisions to the kit list of the three available variants.

On the Kia side of things (handled by Dinamikjaya Motors), the report indicates that the all-new, fifth-generation Sportage will finally make its Malaysian launch debut in 2024. The SUV will be introduced as a locally-assembled (CKD) model alongside the Carens, the latter being a three-row SUV that first debuted in India and is now available in Indonesia.

No word on Peugeot models in the report, which is rightly so since Stellantis has taken over distributorship (this was previously handled by Bermaz Auto Alliance). Bermaz “will in the meantime continue to work with Stellantis for vehicle sales through its own network,” Stellantis said in a statement in November.

In an earlier report, it was stated that the 408 and e-2008 will be launched here in 2024. This is according to Daniel Gonzalez, chief operating officer (ASEAN and general distributors) at Stellantis, who also said that both will be CKD models, joined by the Landtrek (the pick-up truck is currently sold as a CBU).

  • 2024 Mazda CX-5 facelift details leaked for Malaysia – 2.0 and 2.5 petrol, 2.2D, 2.5T engines; RM149k-197k

    2024 Mazda CX-5 facelift details leaked for Malaysia – 2.0 and 2.5 petrol, 2.2D, 2.5T engines; RM149k-197k

The updated, 2024 Mazda CX-5 appears to be nearing its Malaysian market introduction, given that it has been sighted on a transporter truck, and now we have leaked details of the facelifted SUV, sent to paultan.org from an anonymous source which goes by the handle Pirates R Us.

The leaked internal document shows that the 2024 CX-5 will be sold in Malaysia in five variants – the 2.0G 2WD Mid, 2.0G 2WD High, 2.5G 2WD High, 2.2D 2WD High and the 2.5T AWD High, the range-topper being the sole variant with all-wheel-drive this time.

Prices as listed on the leaked document start from RM149,469.20 for the base 2.0G 2WD Mid, moving on to RM166,469.20 for the 2.0G 2WD High, RM179,960.40 for the 2.5G 2WD High, RM185,322.80 for the 2.2D 2WD High, and RM193,760.40 for the 2.5T AWD High; all prices are for Peninsular Malaysia, on-the-road without insurance, with metallic paint (premium paints, Soul Red Crystal and Machine Grey, add RM3,300), before accessories.

Key updates according to the document for the 2024 facelift begin with the 2.0G Mid, which gets a new front grille and bumper, 17-inch alloy wheels of a new design, auto folding exterior mirrors, keyless entry with walk-away locking, and the new ‘CX-5’ badge design.

The same exterior kit is found on the 2.0G High, while the 2.5G High gets larger 19-inch alloys. So far, it appears that the kit from the 2.5G High will be on the 2.5T High as well.

Inside, the changes brought by the 2024 facelift range begin with the infotainment, where the 2.0G Mid now brings wireless Apple CarPlay in addition to wired Android Auto through the eight-inch infotainment display, plus a wireless phone charger and LED interior lamps.

Next in the 2.0G High, this adds paddle shifters to the kit list, along with the introduction of ADAS equipment to the CX-5 range, plus a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat with memory function. Moving on to the 2.5G High, this adds front seat ventilation, and a seven-inch colour TFT display to its instrumentation, where lower variants used an analogue speedometer.

Moving on to the diesel-powered 2.2D High, this shares the interior updates with the naturally aspirated petrol powered 2.5G High. At the top of the 2024 CX-5 range, the interior of the turbocharged petrol 2.5T High adds on Offroad Traction Assist.

Additionally, the source says that bookings for the 2024 CX-5 are now being taken with a RM1,000 refundable deposit, and vehicle stock is expected to arrive in March 2024 for delivery the following month, in April.

These details, of course, are leaked, and confirmation of the updated SUV’s specification and pricing will come with the official announcement when the time comes. For now, pricing indicated on this document shows that the 2024 Mazda CX-5 in Malaysia will start from RM149,469.20 for the base 2.0G 2WD Mid, ranging up to RM193,760.40 for the 2.5T AWD High, plus RM3,300 for the premium paint options.

  • 2024 Mazda CX-5 facelift seen – Malaysia launch soon?

2024 Mazda CX-5 facelift seen – Malaysia launch soon?

It looks like Bermaz Motor is getting ready to introduce the facelifted Mazda CX-5 soon, as paultan.org reader Pavithren Shankar has shared with us an image that purportedly depicts the refreshed SUV on a trailer.

The wrapping on the vehicle attempts to mask some of the design changes that come with the facelift, one of which involve the taillights. The update sees reshaped light clusters that are marginally slimmer and with a subtle notch at the base, which are somewhat visible in this image.

Other revisions that aren’t visible here but are part of the facelift include a new taillight signature (no longer circular), while the front redesigned headlamps have rectangular-shaped LED lighting elements within them. The latter is joined by a grille with a three-dimensional mesh insert, while the lower apron has less black trim than before.

As for the interior, it remains largely the same as the pre-facelift model aside from the addition of a Qi wireless charging tray and the Mazda intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) drive mode system. The 10.25-inch infotainment screen isn’t new as it was introduced when the CX-5 got a running change in August 2020, although this didn’t come to Malaysia. Our CX-5 got its running change in October 2019 and has remained the same until now – the full facelift was revealed back in September 2021.

Finally, in the safety and driver assist department, the i-Activsense suite has been updated to now include a new Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS), which helps reduce driver fatigue by assisting with accelerator, brake pedal and steering operations when stuck in traffic jams. The front Adaptive LED Headlights (ALH) have also been enhanced to provide finer control over light distribution.

So far, there’s no word on when the facelifted CX-5 will be launched here, but it should happen for the 2024 model year. Are you looking forward to it? Will you pick if over the upcoming sixth-generation Honda CR-V that is also slated for our market? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

  • 2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift debuts – updated styling, revised suspension, new Mi-Drive drive mode selector

2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift debuts – updated styling, revised suspension, new Mi-Drive drive mode selector

After an impromptu reveal recently, Mazda has now officially unveiled the new 2022 CX-5 facelift, which gains a revised exterior, an updated kit list and chassis enhancements.

You’ll spot the refreshed SUV by its new front fascia that features redesigned headlamps with rectangular-shaped LED lighting elements within them. These flank a tweaked grille with a three-dimensional mesh insert, while the signature wing underneath has been made thicker and no longer extends that far into the clusters as previously.

Mazda designers also opted to reduce the number of character lines in favour of reflective body surface, hence the lower apron has been simplified as a result. Meanwhile, the rear taillights get a similar light signature as the headlamps, while the reflectors are now smaller and pushed higher up above the exhaust pipes rather than being beside them. New aluminium alloy wheel designs are also part of the facelift, as is a new exterior colour called Zircon Sand.

The Japanese carmaker also notes it applied some aspects of its SkyActiv-Vehicle Architecture, which first debuted on the current Mazda 3, to the CX-5. This sees improvements to the vehicle’s bodyshell and seats for enhanced ride comfort, reduced fatigue and significantly less road noise, particularly when driving on rough surfaces. The suspension also gets an enhanced dampening control structure and increased frame rigidity, both helping to suppress unpleasant NVH.

2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift debuts – updated styling, revised suspension, new Mi-Drive drive mode selector

While the exterior revisions are immediately obvious, it’s familiar territory on the inside. A notable addition is a Qi wireless charging tray that has already been fitted to some Mazda models, and you can find it nestled in the SUV’s centre console.

Drivers will also have access to a new Mazda intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) system, which provides them with a few drive modes to choose from; variants equipped with the company’s i-Activ all-wheel drive system will further benefit from an Off-Road mode.

The larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen is nothing new, as it was first introduced as part of a running update for the CX-5 announced last August. Depending on the market it is sold in and the variants offered, there’s a variety of trim, upholstery and contract stitching combinations to choose from.

2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift debuts – updated styling, revised suspension, new Mi-Drive drive mode selector

On that mention, Mazda stated that all CX-5s sold in the United States will come with all-wheel drive as standard, so it won’t be possible to get one with only front-wheel drive for the 2022 model year over there. The company did not provide detailed information on powertrains, although it looks like the current crop of SkyActiv engines will continue to be of service.

According to Car and Driver, the most powerful option will be a 2.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit with 250 hp and 434 Nm when running on premium 93 octane fuel, or 227 hp and 420 Nm with regular 87 octane fuel.

The lesser powerplant is a 2.5 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol with 187 hp and 252 Nm, with both mills still paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, which Mazda says has been made more responsive.

2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift debuts – updated styling, revised suspension, new Mi-Drive drive mode selector

In other markets like Europe, expect a 2.0 litre NA four-cylinder petrol (163 hp and 213 Nm) as well as a 2.2 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel with up to 181 hp and 445 Nm to be offered. Unlike in the US, front- and all-wheel drive should be made available to customers elsewhere.

Returning system include Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning System, Lane-keep Assist System, Smart City Brake Support, Smart Brake Support and Driver Attention Alert.

  • 2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift leaked in China – Dec debut?

2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift leaked in China – Dec debut?

The second-generation Mazda CX-5 has been around since 2016, and based on leaked images posted to China’s Autospy, it looks like the SUV will receive a facelift in 2021 for the 2022 model year. While there are no official details for now, a separate report by Creative Trend suggests the refreshed SUV will be launched in Japan this December.

As far as styling revisions go, the CX-5 gets a reprofiled front grille with an insert design that is reminiscent of what you’ll find on the Mazda 3 Sedan. There’s still a chrome frame for the bottom half of the grille, although it is now thicker on the sides and no longer cuts as much into the headlamps as the current model.

2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift leaked in China – Dec debut?

On that mention, the dual-beam headlamps are also new and feature L-shaped graphics within them, while the lower apron has been simplified, with the tiny fog lamps and black strip seemingly omitted.

The rear remains largely familiar, save for the redesigned two-piece taillights that appear slightly slimmer than before. Further downwards, the reflectors have been made smaller and are positioned higher up above the exhaust pipes, which are joined by a tweaked panel in black. Smaller details include the model script that now uses the company’s latest typeface, as seen on the CX-30.

There are no interior shots yet, but don’t expect significant changes apart from maybe new seats, trim and upholstery, given the CX-5 got a larger infotainment screen as part of a 2021 model year update last August.

With the current CX-5 set to receive a facelift, this will likely mean we won’t see a next-generation model as reported previously. The third-generation CX-5 will be a radical departure from the current, front-wheel drive formula, as it is said to switch to a rear-wheel drive platform instead. If that isn’t enough, there’s even talk about inline-six engines being used, along with an expected eight-speed automatic transmission.
