• ACE 2022: Proton Satria GTi, Putra DSR-008, Honda S2000 and SW20 Toyota MR2 on display at SCCC

  If you’re attending the paultan.org Auto Car Expo (ACE), spend some time to check out this line-up of iconic cars presented by Karrus Classics at the entrance hall of the Setia City Convention Centre.

  One of the models on display is a Proton Putra that has been restored by local specialist Dream Street Restoration (DSR). Bearing the identification number ‘DSR-008-C99’, the blue Putra you see here features a few unique touches as part of its commission, including a Tottenham Hotspur logo on the left fender, plenty of blue accents and 16-inch Advanti wheels, just to name a few.

  

  The 4G93P 1.8 litre DOHC engine is retained but subjected to an overhaul and blueprinted by SS Motorsport Garage, with the transmission also getting fresh internals and tidied up via sandblasting to make it appear “fresh out of the factory.”

  The Putra DSR is joined by another Proton that resonated with hot hatch fans, the Satria GTi. Karrus Classics offers refurbished units of the Satria GTi for RM45,000 a pop, with each undergoing a refurbishment process before being put on sale.

  

  

  

  

  Fans of JDM cars will also get to see in person a Honda S2000, which has become a highly collectible model these days, with prices on the up in the used car market. This particular unit is finished in yellow and is fitted with a carbon-fibre hardtop, among other things.

  Lastly, we have another JDM icon in the form of the second-generation SW20 Toyota MR2. There’s plenty going for the Alza, but the new MPV has some key differences from the Aruz; the latter’s characteristics might appeal more to some families. Height is one – with a ground clearance of 220 mm, the Aruz rides 60 mm higher than the Alza, and a high seating position provides better visibility.

  The Aruz comes with many of the good things we’ve come to expect from Perodua, including Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0 plus six airbags for a five-star ASEAN NCAP crash test rating. Latest features include auto door locking and side steps to assist entry and exit. There’s also a fresh Passion Red colour that’s present at ACE.

  

  Still the only Perodua with a turbocharged engine, the Ativa’s 1.0 litre turbo blends performance with fuel economy, which is rated at 18.9 km/l (ECE mode). Max torque of 140 Nm is available from a low 2,400 rpm to 4,000 rpm, ensuring good acceleration. Power delivery is smooth and efficient thanks to the advanced D-CVT with seven-speed mode. Safety is top priority and the Perodua Smart Drive Assist range of features is simply unbeatable in the price segment.

  Nissan will be present at the expo to showcase several models including the Almera Turbo, Serena seven-seater MPV, X-Trail SUV and the Navara pick-up. The Almera Turbo with 100 PS and 152 Nm starts from RM83,888 with all variants equipped with the Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and Intelligent Forward Emergency Braking (autonomous emergency braking). For an extra RM1,000 you can even have the Almera Turbo dressed up in a five-piece Tomei Aerokit Package worth RM8,000.

  The facelift Nissan Serena seven-seater MPV was launched in Malaysia earlier this year with two variants available. The Highway Star starts from RM149,888 while the Premium Highway Star starts from RM162,888. The mild hybrid 150 PS and 200 Nm MPV gets Nappa leather upholstery in the Premium Highway Star variant with autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection standard in both variants.   Also present at the Nissan booth is the rugged Navara Pro-4X starting from RM148,600. Last but not least there is also a Nissan X-Trail on display that’s finished in the same Monarch Orange colour offered for the Skyline GT-R.

  Specifying the Tomei Aerokit for the highest VLT variant adds door visors, Almera-branded scuff plates and door handle protectors. A Tomei GT wing can also be specified for an extra RM1,400 for all variants.

  The Almera Turbo VL starts from RM83,888, VLP from RM89,888 and VLT from RM95,888 while the Tomei Aerokit (worth RM8,000) can be specified for an extra RM1,000 only. All Tomei accessories come with a three-year/100,000-km warranty.
