This top-class product is priced between RM2,300 and RM2,800, and comes with a 10-year warranty coverage. All packages also include one free tint replacement in the event of glass replacement or break-ins.

  The BYD Atto 3 is surely one of the most common EVs in Malaysia now. The crossover’s popularity has to be down to the solid electric tech beneath, the contemporary design in and out, as well as the attractive price. Wonder what’s all the hype about? The Atto 3 is on display and available for test drives at PACE 2023, happening this weekend at the Setia City Convention Centre.

  The Atto 3 is joined by the Dolphin, which was launched in June this year. Priced from RM99,900, the electric five-door hatch gives you a lot of EV for the money. Both the Dynamic Standard Range and Premium Extended Range come with a Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and an electric motor driving the front wheels.

  The Dynamic Standard Range’s battery is a 44.92 kWh unit, good for a range of 410 km in the NEDC cycle (340 km WLTP). Opt for the Premium Extended Range and you’ll get a 60.48 kWh battery with 490 km range (NEDC, 427 km WLTP), which is very decent. The top model has 204 PS/310 Nm of torque and does the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 7.0 seconds. It feels faster than that in reality. You’ll also find the Dolphin to be more spacious than its footprint suggests.

• 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe facelift previewed in Malaysia at PACE – 1.6L hybrid and 2.2L diesel, three variants

  The facelifted fourth-generation Hyundai Santa Fe is now in town, making its Malaysian public debut at the ongoing paultan.org Premium Auto Car Expo (PACE) 2023. The locally-assembled SUV will go on sale here in diesel and petrol hybrid variant forms. No pricing has been indicated as of yet, but further details are expected to be revealed closer to the vehicle’s launch.

  Three versions will be available for the local market, these being the Hybrid Plus, Hybrid Max and Diesel Max. Both Hybrid variants are powered by a 1.6 litre Gamma II T-GDI petrol engine developing 180 PS/265 Nm of torque and a 44.2 kW electric motor, offering a total system output of 230 PS and 350 Nm. Power goes to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.

  As for the Diesel Max, it features a 2.2 litre CRDi diesel engine, which provided 199 hp (202 PS) and 440 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via the automaker’s HTRAC all-wheel drive system and an eight-speed wet DCT.

  

  All variants feature bi-function LED projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights and LED tail lamps, although wheel sizes differ. The Hybrid Plus gets 17-inch alloy wheels and 235/65 profile tyres, while the Hybrid Max is fitted with 19-inch units and 235/55 tyres. The Diesel Max rides on 20-inch units, wrapped with 255/45 rubbers.

  In terms of kit, the Hybrid Plus gets cloth upholstery, a Supervision 4.25-inch TFT LCD for the instrument cluster and powered front seats. The Hybrid Max and Diesel Max increases the luxe to leather seats, a fully-digital 12.3-inch instrument panel and adds on a power tailgate and roof rails. The Hybrid Max adds on heated/ventilated front seats and driver’s seat memory.

  

  

  

  Standard fit across all variants is an eight-inch touch-screen with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and voice recognition, a six-speaker audio system, dual-zone air-conditioning with rear AC vents, auto wipers, smart key entry with push-start, remote start function, paddle shifters, an electro-chromic rear-view mirror and wireless phone charging.

  All the Santa Fe facelift variants come with six airbags and usual raft of safety kit (ESC, hill-start assist, downhill brake control etc) along with the full complement of items in the Hyundai SmartSense safety suite.   The paultan.org Premium Auto Car Expo (PACE) is taking place right now at the Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam, Selangor, and will be over this weekend of November 4 and 5.

  Here at PACE 2023 is Petronas, which is also the title sponsor for this year’s running of the event, and the brand is offering up to 20% savings on Petronas lubricant products from the Petronas Syntium, Petronas Sprinta and Petronas Urania product lines.

• 2024 Hyundai Tucson on display in Malaysia at PACE – 2.0L NA and 1.6L Turbo, 6AT and 7DCT; 3 variants

  Following the start of order taking for the fourth-generation (NX4) Hyundai Tucson yesterday, the redesigned five-seat SUV is now making its first public debut at this weekend’s paultan.org Premium Auto Car Expo (PACE) which is happening at the Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC) from November 4-5.

  Three variants of the Tucson are being offered, all of which come fully imported (CBU) from South Korea. No pricing to report until an official launch takes place, but we do have detailed specifications for each variant.

  The base option is called the 2.0 Lite and it comes with 17-inch alloy wheels (235/65 profile tyres), LED MFR (Multi Face Reflector) headlamps, bulb-type taillights, fabric seat upholstery, manual seats, a leather steering wheel, a Supervision 4.25-inch multi-info display, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six speakers, keyless entry and start (with remote start), a rear-view camera and manual air-conditioning.

  The list continues with seven airbags, ABS, ESC, hill start assist, rear parking sensors, Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Safe Exit Warning (SEW) and Rear Occupant Alert (ROA). Passive cruise control and an auto hold function for the electronic parking brake are the only driver assistance systems fitted to the 2.0 Lite.

  

  If you step up to the mid-spec 1.6T Plus, the kit list is improved with the addition of 19-inch alloys (with 235/55 profile tyres), leather seat upholstery, an eight-way powered driver’s seat, paddle shifters as well as a tyre pressure monitoring system.

  Sitting at the very top of the line-up is the 1.6T Max, which improves upon the 1.6T Plus by adding front parking sensors, LED combination taillights, aluminium roof rails, 8-way powered front seats with heating and ventilation functions, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, a powered tailgate, an electrochromic rear-view mirror, rain-sensing wipers and a wireless charging pad.

  The 1.6T Max is the only one that comes with more advanced driver assistance systems, including Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with stop & go, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with junction support, Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA), High Beam Assist (HBA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) and motion sensing for the ROA.

  

  The latest Tucson is built on the N3 platform and we’re getting it in long-wheelbase form, just like in the United States. All variants come standard with four drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sport and Smart) and engines from the Smartstream family, with two versions available. Here are all the key specifications:

  • Transmission: Six-speed automatic; FWD
  • 0-100 km/h time: 11.4 seconds
  • Top speed: 181 km/h

  

  1.6T Plus and 1.6T Max – Smartstream G1.6 T-GDI

  • Engine: 1.6 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol
  • Engine output: 180 PS at 5,500 rpm and 265 Nm from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm
  • Transmission: Seven-speed dual-clutch; FWD
  • 0-100 km/h time: 8.8 seconds
  • Top speed: 201 km/h

  Both 1.6T variants can be ordered in a choice of five colours, including Amazon Gray Metallic, Phantom Black Pearl, Creamy White Pearl, Crimson Red Pearl and Silky Bronze Metallic, although the last two are not available for the 2.0 Lite.

As for those looking at EVs, the RS e-tron GT, with its 646 PS and 830 Nm electric powertrain, will get the pulse racing.
