  • iCaur Malaysia opens Glenmarie outlet by Absolute Motor – brand’s first dealership in Malaysia, worldwide

iCaur Malaysia opens Glenmarie outlet by Absolute Motor – brand’s first dealership in Malaysia, worldwide

iCaur Malaysia has opened its Glenmarie dealership location today, which is also the brand’s first dealership worldwide, the company has announced.

Operated by Absolute Motor, the brand’s Glenmarie dealership is located at 12, Jalan Pendaftar U1/54, Kawasan Perindustrian Temasya, 40150 Shah Alam, Selangor. Its showroom is open 8:30am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 5pm on Sunday, while the service centre operates 8:30am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday.

Occupying 18,912 square feet of space, the iCaur Glenmarie dealership is designed as a “full service lifestyle hub”, incorporating a showroom that accommodates up to five vehicles, customer lounge with Wi-Fi and F&B, a dedicated vehicle delivery bay, and two private EV charging bays. This location also features the iCaur Arcade, a gaming zone for customers and visitors.

For aftersales operations, the iCaur Glenmarie dealership includes a service centre with three service bays, as well as a dedicated customisation bay. With its team of 30 highly trained staff, the service centre has a monthly service capacity of up to 300 vehicles, according to the company.

Following the opening of the Glenmarie dealership, iCaur aims to set up 18 sales points and nine full-fledged dealerships nationwide by mid-September, while dealer Absolute Motor will also expand its footprint with additional outlets in the coming months, it added.

“Offering unique designs and formidable engineering, our steadfast commitment to become the first iCaur dealership in Malaysia and the world represents our firm belief in the brand and in its promise of sustainable mobility that also resonates with the lifestyle of its owners,” said Absolute Motor managing director Andy Yap.

“In under four months since our debut, iCaur has stamped an indelible mark in Malaysia, delivering a simple yet profound message — Born to Play. iCaur Glenmarie reflects that spirit, standing as the first dealership not only in Malaysia but in the world, and setting the tone for a brand that appeals to individuality and self-expression — delivered through capable, tech-forward vehicles and a complementary ecosystem that encourages adventure every step of the way,” said iCaur Malaysia vice president Emily Lek.

In terms of product, the brand will be officially launching the iCaur 03 on September 9, following the battery-electric model’s first Malaysian appearance in May this year. Two variants of the 03 will be offered in Malaysia; the range starts with the 03 2WD single-motor rear-wheel-drive, and this is joined by the 03 iWD, the dual-motor AWD variant; estimated prices are RM145,000 and RM155,000, respectively.

iCaur 03 EV to be launched in Malaysia on September 9 – 2WD and AWD variants, RM145k to RM155k est

iCaur Malaysia has revealed that it will be officially introducing its first all-electric model to the Malaysian market next month, with the iCaur 03 – which made its first appearance here back in May at the Malaysia Autoshow – set to make its market debut on September 9.

As indicated previously, two variants of the 03 will be offered here, these being the 03 2WD, which is estimated to be priced from RM145,000, and the 03 iWD, with the price for that expected to start from RM155,000.

Measuring in at 4,406 mm long, 1,910 mm wide and 1,715 mm tall, with a 2,715 mm wheelbase, the 03 has plenty of presence, and those who like boxy, muscular shapes will find this one especially appealing. Other key numbers include a 1,874 kg kerb weight.

iCaur 03 EV to be launched in Malaysia on September 9 – 2WD and AWD variants, RM145k to RM155k est

The 03 2WD is powered by an 184 PS (181 hp or 135 kW) and 220 Nm rear-mounted motor, with power sent to the rear wheels. Juice for the motor is supplied by a 65.69 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, and this is good enough for 426 km of NEDC-rated travel (or around 355 km, WLTP).

The 03 iWD, as its moniker suggests, sports a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, and this is made up of a 95 PS (94 hp or 70 kW) and 165 Nm front axle motor and the same 184 PS/220 Nm rear axle motor seen on the 2WD to yield a total system output of 279 PS (275 hp or 205 kW) and 385 Nm. This setup propels the 03 from zero to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, on to a top speed of 150 km/h.

The iWD features a slightly larger capacity 69.8 kWh LFP battery, which offers an NEDC-rated range of 418 km (342 km on the WLTP standard, as cited for its Chery sub-brand stablemate, the Jaecoo J6). Both variants support up to 80 kW of DC fast charging, which brings the batteries from a 30 to 80% state-of-charge (SoC) in around 30 minutes. The battery also supports AC charging at up to 6.6 kW.

The launch will reveal the full details of the Malaysian specifications soon, but the kit list will include items such as a iRoad suite with six selectable drive modes, a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 9.2-inch digital instrument panel as well as a 12-speaker Infinity sound system. There’s also a Level 2.5 ADAS driving assistance suite, with lane assist, adaptive cruise control and traffic jam assist among that particular mix.

The 03 EV is one of three models that iCaur plans to launch in Malaysia this year, with the other two being the 03T, which is a more rugged, sportier version of the 03, and the V23, which is expected to be priced close to the 03 and 03T. More on the iCaur 03 very soon.

  • BYD Shark cancelled in Thailand due to low orders

BYD Shark cancelled in Thailand due to low orders

BYD Thailand has decided not to sell the Shark 6 PHEV pick-up truck there because of low orders, according to Autolifethailand.tv. The vehicle opened for booking at the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show in March and was to be limited to 500 units, but apparently only 153 orders have been received.

The Thai publication posted on social media that local distributor Rever Automotive is requesting the cancellation of all 153 orders and that no booking fees have been collected. At a smidge under 1.7 million baht (RM221k), the Shark 6 PHEV costs considerably more than the Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max and Ford Ranger in the Land of Smiles.

BYD Auto (Thailand) GM Ke Yubin told Autolifethailand.tv in an interview that because the Shark is a CBU China import, it’s subject to over 30% tax, making it difficult to price competitively. BYD will choose another pick-up truck to be produced in Thailand next year. The Shark (or Shark 6; same car) is the only BYD pick-up truck we know currently, so maybe it’s something we haven’t seen yet.

At 5,457 mm long, 1,917 mm wide, 1,925 mm tall and with a 3,260 mm wheelbase, BYD’s pick-up truck is no baby shark. The PHEV system (dubbed Dual Mode Off-road Super Hybrid) features a 184 PS/260 Nm 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine, a 231 PS/310 Nm front electric motor, a 204 PS/340 Nm rear electric motor and a 29.58-kWh Blade LFP battery. Learn more about the vehicle here.

  • Alfa Romeo, Jeep returning to Malaysia soon – small-volume boutique ops, not directly under Stellantis

Alfa Romeo, Jeep returning to Malaysia soon – small-volume boutique ops, not directly under Stellantis

    Alfa Romeo Tonale

Here’s something for the diehards. Alfa Romeo and Jeep, two niche brands with a small but passionate following, will be coming back to Malaysia in an official capacity. This was revealed to paultan.org by Stellantis ASEAN MD Isaac Yeo in a recent interview, but it won’t be in the form that you might be thinking of.

Previously under the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles umbrella, Alfa Romeo and Jeep are now brands of the Stellantis Group (which is the result of a merger between FCA and Groupe PSA), but Yeo said that their impending return to our market will not be directly under Stellantis Malaysia, which will now put its full focus on Leapmotor, scaling back on Peugeot in the process.

Instead, Alfa Romeo and Jeep will be handled by separate entities in what Yeo calls a ‘hybrid model system’ operating a ’boutique style’ business, which will suit the low volume of the brands.

Alfa Romeo, Jeep returning to Malaysia soon – small-volume boutique ops, not directly under Stellantis

    Sixth-gen 2026 Jeep Cherokee

“We are bringing in Jeep and Alfa under a hybrid model system. I believe these two brands, in the next two years, has its customer base, but I want to keep this next two years to a boutique style business. I’m not going after the mass market,” Yeo said.

However, this arrangement might only be for the short term, and there’s a chance that Stellantis might assume full control after two years. “Reason is also because the next generation of my products are evolving – in two years time I’ll have a very huge range. These are iconic old brands, so there’s a lot of interest but also a lot of skepticism, so I want to keep it small and manageable rather than go full NSC (national sales company) mode,” Yeo explained.

The group’s ASEAN chief used the word ‘relevant’ many times in our hour-long interview and one gets the sense that for Stellantis Malaysia, the main goal now is to stay in the game, with hopes resting on the shoulders of their new Chinese striker, supported by two niche wingers.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Jeep Wrangler need no introduction

“I have a lot of brands to play with, but I need to be ready with every brand. For us now, Leapmotor is the focus, and boutique style for Jeep and Alfa Romeo. That will keep me relevant. I don’t need to be up there, just to be relevant, but I will make a comeback,” Yeo declared.

So, what can we expect from the returning brands? In Alfa Romeo’s corner we have the Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV, as well as the newer and smaller Tonale SUV (think BMW X1). More recently, Alfa unveiled the Junior, an even smaller SUV (think Volvo EX30) that’s also available in full EV form.

As for Jeep, the American 4×4 brand has mainstays like the Wrangler along with daily-friendly SUVs like the compact Compass (think Peugeot 3008) and the just-unveiled sixth-generation Cherokee, which debuts with a 1.6T hybrid powertrain (American Honda CR-V alternative?). At the top of the Jeep range is the Wagoneer S, the brand’s first global EV.

Alfa Romeo, Jeep returning to Malaysia soon – small-volume boutique ops, not directly under Stellantis

Jeep was handled by DRB-Hicom from 2014-2017

Italian curves and American muscle – which of these Alfa Romeo and Jeep models would you like to see in Malaysia? As full CBU brands, none of the offerings will match the pricing of the Japanese and premium German brands – which have CKD operations – but those looking for something different will soon have a showroom to go to and official after-sales support.

By the way, Sime Darby was the distributor of Alfa Romeo until 2013. The group held the rights since 2005, but it was not until 2009 when Sime Darby Auto Italia launched the quartet of beauties that were the 159, GT, Brera and Spider. Meanwhile, Jeep was handled by DRB-Hicom between 2014 to 2017. They kicked off with four models and a big HQ in Glenmarie. Those of a certain vintage might remember City Motors for Alfa and MBF for Jeep.

BYD exports cars from Thailand plant to Europe to avoid EU tariffs; 90,000th vehicle produced in July

BYD has started shipping vehicles made in Thailand to Europe, with more than 900 units of the Dolphin EV having departed for Germany, Belgium and the United Kingdom, reported Car News China.

The Europe-bound shipment of BYD vehicles from Thailand are aboard the BYD Zhengzhou, the carmaker’s roll-on/roll-off (RORO) carrier vessel that is named after the city where the manufacturer’s factory is located.

The application of tariffs by the European Union upon Chinese-made electric vehicles started in late-2024, and was planned to be in place for a period of five years. The EU reduced tariffs for selected brands which build their EVs in China shortly thereafter, and BYD was given a reduced tariff rate of 20.7% on top of the existing 10% customs duty for their cooperation with EU investigations, Car News China reported.

BYD exports cars from Thailand plant to Europe to avoid EU tariffs; 90,000th vehicle produced in July

The BYD plant in Rayong, Thailand opened in 2024, and it is the brand’s first in Southeast Asia. This was stated to have an annual production capacity of 150,000 units, a figure which includes plug-in hybrid vehicles, and the plant produces vehicles for Thai market consumption as well as overseas exports. In July this year, the Rayong plant reached its 90,000th vehicle milestone.

“Following the delivery of our 90,000th NEV in July, we are once again achieving a breakthrough. The export of Thai-made Dolphin models to Europe for the first time not only represents another step forward in BYD’s globalisation strategy, but also underscores Thailand’s vital role in the global EV supply chain,” BYD Thailand general manager Ke Yubin was quoted as saying.

Gov’t aims for 13 million MyDigital ID regs by year-end

The government, through the National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa), is aiming for 13 million Malaysians to register for MyDigital ID by end-2025, reports The Star.

“The amendments will allow the use of MyDigital ID in all public and private sector dealings. Financial institutions such as banks and insurance providers will also recognise it. We are moving in that direction,” home minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said yesterday, adding that amendments to the National Registration Act 1959 have been tabled in parliament to allow for this.

MyDigital ID operates on a single sign-on method and was designed to address public concerns over data breaches and identity theft, Saifuddin said.

Gov’t aims for 13 million MyDigital ID regs by year-end

Prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said in July that MyDigital ID would serve as a secure and trusted form of digital authentication under the Government Technology (GovTech) initiative. “The initiative will make it easier for Malaysians to access a wide range of online government services more efficiently,” he said.

Earlier this year, federal territories minister in the prime minister’s department Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa revealed that 2.8 million Malaysians had registered for MyDigital ID as of the second quarter of 2025, up from 1.8 million in the first quarter.

You’ll soon need MyDigital ID to use the MyJPJ and MyBayar PDRM apps, and it could be made compulsory for access to government platforms such as PADU, HRMIS Mobile, MyBorderPass, MyGov Malaysia and LHDN (Inland Revenue Board). Yet to register for one? Here’s how to do it.

Suzuki eVitara production begins in India, to be exported to over 100 markets incl Malaysia, Japan

Production of the Suzuki eVitaraMaruti Suzuki‘s (and Suzuki’s) first EV – has begun in Gujarat, India, reports Hindustan Times. The vehicle will be exported to over 100 countries, including Malaysia and Japan.

“Many companies have increased their trust in India. Till a few years back, EV batteries were completely imported (into India).

“Localisation of battery cells and electrodes will provide a good boost to India’s EV infrastructure,” prime minister Narendra Modi said today after flagging off the first unit from the Hansalpur plant. He also inaugurated Suzuki, Toshiba and Denso’s lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility, which will produce hybrid and electric vehicle batteries.

Malaysia is set to get the eVitara in 2026. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV twin is a zero-emissions B-segment SUV that’s 4,275 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,635 mm tall, with a 2,700 mm wheelbase.

    There are three powertrain choices – a 144 PS/189 Nm one-motor FWD with a 49 kWh battery, a 174 PS/189 Nm one-motor FWD with a 61 kWh battery or a 184 PS/300 Nm twin-motor AWD, also with a 61 kWh battery. The bigger battery yields a range of up to 500 km.

The car hasn’t launched in India yet, so we don’t have confirmed specs, but the Toyota version reportedly has 12-colour ambient lighting, a 360 camera, JBL speakers, a powered driver’s seat, AEB, ACC, lane departure alert and lane keep assist. The Fronx is also coming to Malaysia (Q4 2025). Seems Naza Eastern Motors really wants to move Suzuki into the mainstream from the niche playground it’s currently in.

DODO Mat premium car mats – 31% off limited time Merdeka promo, save up to RM300+, four days only!

We take care of our cars, and some of us obsess over them. But when ferrying family and friends, we can’t always fully control what they bring into the car – dirty shoes, food and drinks, mud and soil, you know what we’re talking about. Frequent cleaning of car mats is a must, a necessary annoyance in our busy daily schedule.

And then there are ‘standard fit’ car mats that fit poorly, bunching up to create ‘rolls’. This isn’t just unsightly, but when it comes to the driver’s side mat, a poor-fitting coil mat can prevent the pedals from being stepped on properly, affecting safety. Some original car mats also wear out quickly, which affects the cabin’s ambience and aesthetics.

MAHB directed to monitor, maintain KLIA aerotrain

The transport ministry has directed Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to continuously monitor and maintain Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s (KLIA) aerotrain following a few disruptions shortly after its July 1 relaunch, reports Bernama.

“Any technical disruption will directly impact passengers. As a critical service at KLIA, the aerotrain must maintain a high level of reliability to ensure uninterrupted passenger movement. The rail system can sometimes face technical issues involving mechanical, electrical and software components.

“Therefore, we have instructed MAHB to carry out daily monitoring and ensure proper maintenance,” transport minister Anthony Loke said today, adding that a dedicated team has been assigned to maintain smooth operation, especially during peak hours.

MAHB directed to monitor, maintain KLIA aerotrain

He also said that MAHB must ensure the project contractor assumes full responsibility for any issues, as the system is still under warranty. The aerotrain has ferried nearly two million passengers between Terminal 1’s main and satellite buildings since its July 1 relaunch, “with thousands relying on the service” daily, the transport minister said.

On July 4, the aerotrain was down for an hour due to heavy rain causing water accumulation in the tunnel – a fault in one of the drainage pumps prevented the automatic removal of water.

The KLIA aerotrain resumed operations on July 1 following a RM456 million upgrade exercise as part of a RM742 million transformation initiative by MAHB, after having been out of action since March 2023. Flight passengers have been bussing between the main and satellite buildings for two years. The new Alstom Innovia APM 300R trains do the one-kilometre journey in under three minutes.

LRT3 Shah Alam Line delay confirmed, project will only begin operations at the end of the year – Loke

It has now been confirmed that the LRT3 Shah Alam Line is only expected to begin operations at the end of the year. The new timeline for its opening was announced by transport minister Anthony Loke earlier today, the New Straits Times reports.

He said that the project, which was initially targeted to begin operations on September 30, had been slightly delayed due to several tests still being required. “Nonetheless, we are committed to ensuring that the initial LRT3 alignment from Klang to Petaling Jaya will begin operating before year-end. The project has been closely monitored and we are confident it can be opened to the public as planned,” he said.

The confirmation follows on a news report earlier today, in which it had been indicated that the opening of the rail line had been delayed to end-2025.

LRT3 Shah Alam Line delay confirmed, project will only begin operations at the end of the year – Loke

Previously, Loke had on July 30 said in a written parliamentary reply that the LRT3 was 99.21% complete as of July 10. However, Prasarana said on social media on July 25 that the trains would be “tested round-the-clock” until October 31 – a month after the targeted September 30 opening date. This post was amended to remove the date after The Star ran an August 4 story about the delay.

The 37-km line will feature 25 stations from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia, with interchanges at Bandar Utama (Kajang MRT) and Glenmarie (Kelana Jaya LRT). It has been subjected to various changes since the 2018 government change, mostly to do with down-scaling and cost-cutting.

Later this week, the first of the 22 trains must complete 4,000 km of testing without faults; the rest must do at least 2,000 km each. Each train must also be able to travel the entire length of the line in an hour or less at a maximum of six minutes’ headway, which is needed to move 18,630 passengers per hour per direction.

KTM ETS to Johor Bahru expected December – Loke

Transport minister Anthony Loke has reiterated that Keretapi Tanah Melayu‘s (KTM) Electric Train Service (ETS) is expected to extend to Johor Bahru by December, Bernama reports.

He said the project is now in its final phase, with track infrastructure fully completed. “The only works left are the signalling systems. The physical infrastructure is ready. The tracks to Johor Bahru are complete, so we expect operations to commence by December.”

Beginning August 30, you’ll be able to take the ETS to Kluang – tickets are purchasable now. There’ll be 10 new Class 94 ETS3 trains in service by early 2026 – two are expected to start operating first; the other eight are being assembled in stages at China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation’s (CRRC) Batu Gajah plant.
