Yinson GreenTech showcases its new range of EV products and services at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024

Yinson GreenTech (YGT) made quite a splash at the recent Malaysia Autoshow 2024 with its ‘Positively Charged – Energising the Electric Transition’ showcase, which featured a range of sustainable electric vehicle (EV) solutions for both consumers and businesses.

One of the major highlights of the event was the unveiling of rydeEV’s CERVO e-bike that expands YGT’s line-up of offerings. Designed in Europe, the CERVO provides a range of up to 110 km on a single charge, making it ideal for extended journeys. Other features include a top speed of 100 km/h, a boost mode as well as support for fast charging to get you back on the move quicker.

In addition to the CERVO, YGT’s leasing business, drivEV, welcomed four new models, including the GAC Aion Y Plus, Maxus eDeliver 7, Maxus eDeliver 3 and Maxus T90 EV, the last of which is Malaysia’s first electric pick-up truck. With flexible leasing plans, drivEV is an ideal way for individuals or businesses to enter the EV world, with a wide range of models to suit their tastes and budgets.

It wasn’t just EVs that were highlighted by YGT at the Malaysia Autshow, as the company also added EV chargers from Kempower, Alpitronic and Autel to its portfolio. Furthermore, chargEV entered into a strategic alliance with Kineta to expand the country’s charging infrastructure and improve the experience for EV owners here.

More surprising at the event was YGT’s marinEV business which presented prototypes of electric crew transfer and light cargo vessels. These are aimed at bringing sustainable maritime transportation and underlines the company’s commitment to electrifying all aspects of transportation, be it on land or water.

Lastly, there’s YGT’s digitalEV, which is an integrated command centre concept powered by AI tools for businesses to increase their productivity levels. Through this platform, businesses will find it much easier and efficient to adopt EVs into their vehicle fleets.

With EV transition being a major talking point in today’s world, YGT aims to be at the forefront to support individuals and businesses looking to make the switch. The company’s showcase at the Malaysia Autoshow is testament to this and all are invited to join to electric revolution by visiting YGT’s official website.

  • ETCM previews Nissan e-Power hybrid at Malaysia Autoshow 2024 – coming to sixth-gen Serena MPV?

ETCM previews Nissan e-Power hybrid at Malaysia Autoshow 2024 – coming to sixth-gen Serena MPV?

At the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) is showcasing Nissan’s e-Power hybrid system in a Nissan Kicks. Both were never offered in Malaysia, with the latter previously teased in ETCM’s Chinese New Year greeting video over two years ago.

In the time since then, the Kicks entered its second generation in March this year. However, the car shown at the event is not the latest but the facelifted first-generation model that first made its debut back in May 2020.

It’s not known if the Kicks will ever be launched here and we honestly don’t expect that to happen given the age of the model being previewed. As such, true focal point of ETCM’s showcase is the e-Power hybrid system.

In the Kicks, the setup consists of a HR12DE 1.2 litre three-cylinder petrol engine rated at 79 PS and 103 Nm of torque that acts solely as a generator for a 1.57 kWh battery located under the front seats.

ETCM previews Nissan e-Power hybrid at Malaysia Autoshow 2024 – coming to sixth-gen Serena MPV?

Said battery powers a front-mounted EM57 electric motor with 129 PS (95 kW) and 260 Nm. Unlike other hybrid systems, the engine does not drive the wheels, with the electric motor being the primary means of getting the crossover moving.

The e-Power system is also used in other Nissan models such as the Serena, which is due for an update here. The MPV entered its sixth generation in November 2022 and was spotted undergoing testing in Malaysia last March.

Perhaps ETCM’s e-Power showcase at the Malaysia Autoshow is an indicator we will finally get Nissan’s unorthodox hybrid system in the Serena in the (hopefully) near future? We did suggest this in a post from earlier this year, so we’ll have to wait and see.

  • Nissan Kicks e-Power to be shown at Malaysia Autoshow 2024, previewing hybrid powertrain?

Nissan Kicks e-Power to be shown at Malaysia Autoshow 2024, previewing hybrid powertrain?

Just a few days to go until the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, and one of the brands set to be present, Nissan, has teased its lineup for its display. Distributor Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) appears to be rolling out a few of its current models, including the C27 Serena J Impul (no, not the new C28), Almera Kuro Edition (no, not the facelift) and an extremely rugged version of the Navara.

But there’s one other car that will be shown at the event, and the not-very-well-disguised teaser indicates that it will be the Kicks e-Power. The B-segment crossover – which competes against the Honda HR-V in other markets – will be showing off its hybrid powertrain, which functions in a similar fashion to Honda’s Intelligent Multi-mode Drive (i-MMD) system found in its e:HEV models.

In the Kicks, the hybrid system is centred around a 129 PS/260 Nm, which derives its electricity from a 1.57 kWh battery. The latter is juiced by a 79 PS/103 Nm 1.2 litre HR12DE three-cylinder petrol engine that functions solely as a generator. Unlike Honda’s version, there’s no lock-up clutch to enable the ICE to drive the wheels directly.

Nissan Kicks e-Power to be shown at Malaysia Autoshow 2024, previewing hybrid powertrain?

It’s tempting to treat this as a sign the Kicks will finally be sold in Malaysia very soon – after all, its arrival was telegraphed as early as 2022. But the ship has very much sailed on that one, not least because there’s an all-new model now being sold in the US.

Instead, the Kicks will likely serve as a teaser for another model with e-Power technology – similar to how the Note e-Power was shown at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) back in 2018 to gauge public interest.

Nissan’s e-Power technology will likely make its debut in the new C28 Serena

This yet-to-be-confirmed model is anticipated to be the C28 Serena. The MPV, which made its debut back in 2022, is no longer available in mild S-Hybrid form, hitherto the only powertrain option for the C26 and C27 Serena in Malaysia.

The sole electrified version instead uses a more powerful 163 PS/315 Nm electric motor and a larger 98 PS/123 Nm 1.4 litre HR14DDe direct-injected three-pot generator. The car has already been seen undergoing testing locally and hence is long overdue for its Malaysian launch.

  • GWM Malaysia to showcase Tank 300 and Haval H6 Hybrid SUVs at Malaysia Autoshow 2024 next week

GWM Malaysia to showcase Tank 300 and Haval H6 Hybrid SUVs at Malaysia Autoshow 2024 next week

In a post on its Facebook page, Great Wall Motor Malaysia has indicated that it will be showcasing the GWM Tank 300 and the Haval H6 Hybrid at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, which takes place next week. Both vehicles have been previewed in the past, but this is the first time that they will be displayed to the public.

Initially slated to arrive here in Q3, the Tank 300’s Malaysian introduction has now been pushed up to Q2, which means that its market debut should be very soon, possibly even at the show itself. It is expected that we will be getting the non-hybrid 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine version of the boxy-looking off-road SUV.

Here, the powertrain offers 220 PS (217 hp or 162 kW) and 380 Nm in the way of output, and delivers drive via an eight-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel drive system, the latter with 2H, 4H, 4L functions as well as front and rear differential locks. Earlier this month, GWM Malaysia offered an estimated pricing for the Tank 300, with the model expected to retail for around RM258,000.

As for the Haval H6 Hybrid, expect to see what should be the definite iteration for our market at the event. It was previewed here last year, but according to GWM Malaysia, the units shown then were not representative of the final version, with the actual kit and trim for Malaysia being that seen on RHD examples presented for viewing in China recently.

Specifications aren’t expected to differ much from that outlined during the 2023 preview, and so the H6 Hybrid will be powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine offering 150 PS (148 hp or 110 kW) and 230 Nm of torque, working in combination with an electric motor rated at 177 PS (174 hp or 130 kW) and 300 Nm to offer a total system output of 243 PS (240 hp or 179 kW) and 530 Nm, delivered to the wheels via the automaker’s two-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).

There has been no indicative pricing as yet for the H6 HEV, but there should be some clarity on this next week when it makes its first public showing. The H6 Hybrid was originally supposed to debut here in Q2 this year, but its introduction has now been pushed back to Q3. The SUV will go on sale here as a fully-imported (CBU) model initially, but CKD local assembly is set to follow at EP Manufacturing’s (EPMB) plant in Melaka.

  • BMW teases G60 5 Series ICE and new Countryman for Malaysia Autoshow 2024 – BMW Motorrad models too

BMW teases G60 5 Series ICE and new Countryman for Malaysia Autoshow 2024 – BMW Motorrad models too

BMW Malaysia has teased several vehicles that are set to be present at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2024 next week. In an Instagram story posted by the company, we get to see the silhouettes of these vehicles, some of which we can clearly make out (with some editing).

A total of 10 vehicles were teased in the 50-second video, with the first two being appearing to be the latest U11 X1 and U10 X2. The former is currently offered with two fully electric powertrains (iX1) as well as a sole internal combustion engine (ICE) variant, while the latter is available exclusively with electric-only power in the form of the iX2.

Moving on, vehicle number three appears to be the standard G60 5 Series presumably with an ICE (or plug-in hybrid tech), which would be new to our market. The G60 was initially launched here in last November in i5 guise, which is the EV version of the 5er that is very clearly vehicle four in the teaser.

As for vehicles five and six, we can make them out to be the third-generation (U25) MINI Countryman that made its global debut in September 2023. Identifying design cues include the crossover’s angular headlamps and distinctive trim piece on the C-pillars. The Countryman is available as a battery electric vehicle (BEV) or with an ICE, and we could see both at the event.

The remaining four vehicles teased are BMW Motorrad models and include the fully electric CE 02 as well as what appears to be the S 1000 XR, M 1000 XR and F 900 XR. With so many models teased, there’s plenty to look forward to from BMW Malaysia, so stay tuned.

  • Perodua hybrid tech to be at Malaysia Autoshow 2024?

Perodua hybrid tech to be at Malaysia Autoshow 2024?

The upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2024 will feature Perodua at the event, and a promotional image suggests that the national carmaker is set to bring a hybrid powertrain technology display to the show.

While the presence of a hybrid model among Perodua’s line-up of models was represented by the Ativa Hybrid, that was essentially a rebadged Daihatsu Rocky e-Smart Hybrid that was being trialled on a subscription basis.

The carmaker has previously stated that its first hybrid will be launched as variant in a full model change, which rules out the aforementioned Ativa as the crossover premiered in 2021, and a next-gen model will be some way off. The Myvi, too, is fairly recent in its facelift, which was launched late-2021, and the Axia is even newer.

Daihatsu Rocky e-Smart Hybrid powertrain (left); Malaysia Autoshow 2024 promotional image (right)

Its use of a hatchback shape for the hybrid technology showcase would likely take a more generic form rather than one that is model-specific, though if we were to deduce from the image here, the technology display could represent a system with a battery pack that takes up more of the floor, and is therefore considerably larger than that of the Rocky e-Smart Hybrid.

Another possibility is the B-segment SUV codenamed D66B, which is closely related to the Toyota Yaris Cross, being a Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA)-based model. This has been recently tipped for a Malaysian launch in April, which has come and gone, though this model also fits the hybrid billing.

A hybrid variant is available in Indonesia, which packs a 2NR-VEX 1.5 litre NA four-cylinder with 91 PS (90 hp or 67 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 121 Nm from 4,000 to 4,800 rpm and an electric traction motor that is rated at 80 PS (79 hp or 59 kW) and 141 Nm.
